The singer and songwriter, born as Ashley Frangipane, will serve as creator, writer and executive producer for the new series, which is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, TheWrap has learned.
The series has been in the works for years from Halsey, her manager, Anthony Li, and Mark Friedman. Friedman, who recently served as a consulting producer for HBO’s “Dune: Prophecy,” is attached to the series as showrunner and executive producer.
Friedman and Li will executive produce “Bloodlust” alongside Ti West, who will direct the series. West, who recently completely his “MaXXXine” trilogy, has directed a number of TV series, including “Them,” “The Exorcist,” “Wayward Pines,” “Outcast” and “Chambers.”

Nicolas Cage as Superman in Superman Lives ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Nicolas Cage as Superman? Yep, it happened—well, kind of. DC fans watching The Flash got a wild multiverse cameo of Cage battling a massive alien spider as Clark Kent himself. But here’s the twist: Cage’s Superman dream wasn’t just a random CGI throw-in. It was a callback to Hollywood’s most prominent “what-if” stories.
In the late ‘90s, Cage was set to wear the red cape in Superman Lives, a Tim Burton-led reboot that could’ve redefined the Man of Steel. The movie had Cage rocking samurai-style long hair as a darker, emo-ish Superman. Think moody, broody, and not your classic Clark Kent. Kevin Smith wrote the script, Jon Peters produced, and Burton was fresh off Batman and Batman Returns. Everything seemed primed for a super comeback—until it wasn’t.

When Universal’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” opened in December 2022, the “Shrek” spinoff sputtered to a $12.4 million debut. Then, something miraculous happened. Thanks to TikTok and solid buzz, the animated adventure about the swashbuckling cat enjoyed nine lives on the big screen. Ticket sales barely declined week over week, and “The Last Wish” ended its run with $186 million domestically — 15 times its opening weekend — and $481 million globally.
Universal experienced this phenomenon again with Illumination’s “Migration,” which had a disappointing $12.4 million start around Christmas 2023. The cartoon tale about a family of mallards sustained momentum and flew to $127 million in North America — more than 10 times its debut — and nearly $300 million worldwide. (The average film has a 3 or 4 multiple — industry parlance for the ratio of final gross to opening weekend.) “Puss in Boots 2” and “Migration” hold the two highest animated multiples of the past 20 years.

Nicholas Cage is one of Hollywood’s most decorated actors who has worked on brilliant projects in the past. Cage’s career was set, especially since he was born into an artistic family, the Coppolas. His father was August Coppola, who happens to be related to the legendary Francis Ford Coppola and several other big names who have worked in the movie industry.
Cage has been in many relationships over the years, including five marriages. His first marriage was to actress Patricia Arquette (1995-2001), followed by a short stint with Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie (2002-04). Then, he married Alice Kim, a waitress who worked in LA. Their marriage lasted for 12 years before ending in 2016.

In Michael Samoski's 2021 drama "Pig," Nicolas Cage plays a quiet, bearded recluse named Rob Feld who lives in a remote woodland cabin with his unnamed pet pig. The pig is a skilled truffle forager, and Rob makes a living selling truffles to a restaurant supplier (Alex Wolff) who occasionally drives out to his cabin. Rob clearly has a dark past, but has seemingly found peace in the woods. One night, however, Rob is attacked, and his pig is stolen. Rob has to trek into nearby Portland to retrieve his animal friend, and, we learn, confront his past.
As the film progresses, we discover that Rob had unusual connections in the world of Portland's high-end restaurateurs, and that he participated in eatery-related underground fighting rings (!). He's also still in mourning over the death of his wife years before, which was the primary impetus driving Rob to become a recluse. More than anything,...

With a career spanning over four decades, Nicolas Cage has solidified his status as a great actor in Hollywood. From his early days as a young actor to his current reign, Cage has always been a force to be reckoned with.
But what most fans don’t know is that the actor was once supposed to play one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. He was in fact the first choice to play Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. One can only imagine the level of unpredictability he would have brought to that role.
A missed opportunity: Nicolas Cage as Green Goblin
Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy is considered as one of the best by Marvel fans for a lot of reasons. The screenplay, side characters, setting, etc all make for a memorable part of the movie. However, the most important factor in a superhero movie is its villains.

Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movies are a masterclass in adapting comic books to the big screen, particularly in how to make their setting feel lived-in and real while also fantastical. Raimi populated each of his films with memorable side characters that fleshed-out and expanded his take on the "Spider-Man" universe, giving the movies an everyman perspective that makes them stand apart from all other superhero films out there. His "Spider-Man" trilogy features dozens of characters who make an impression with merely a single line of dialogue, which builds up their version of New York and allow us to better see and care about Spider-Man because we've gotten to know the people he spends his days protecting -- from Mr. Aziz (Peter's boss at Joe's Pizza in "Spider-Man 2") to the glorified extras played by then lesser-knowns like Joel McHale and Emily Deschanel, Mr. Ditkovitch (albeit in a bigger role), and,...

We all know who Superman is.
Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 1938, wasn't the first superhero character in modern media, but he tends to be held up as one of the genre's central archetypes. His red wrestler's cape and red strong man's trunks, paired with his super strength and ability to defy gravity, have all become central symbols of what a superhero is, how a superhero should behave, and what a superhero looks like. Hundreds of thousands of superheroes have been invented since 1938, but many of those produced by mainstream comics outlets like Marvel or DC owe Superman a direct debt. In the same way that every on-screen Dracula is a riff on Bela Lugosi's performance in Tod Browning's 1931 movie, Superman is either being enhanced or subverted by every comic book superhero character. But he is the mainstay.

Nicolas Cage set to star as Spider-Man Noir, bringing a fresh rendition of the character to the live-action TV series. Cage's selective approach to roles and skepticism of superhero projects indicates promising potential for the upcoming Noir series. With a focus on an older Spider-Man in a detective noir setting, the series is set to offer a unique take on the iconic character.
Nicolas Cage is officially set to play Spider-Man in the live-action Noir TV series, and his prior comments about superhero roles bode well for the upcoming Prime Video/MGM+ release. Spider-Man's long list of movies and TV shows speaks to the long-successful history of Marvel's Wall-Crawler outside of comics. However, up until recently, the iconic red-and-blue-suited Peter Parker has justifiably been the main focus. Miles Morales stepped into the cinematic spotlight with the wonderful Spider-Verse movies, and now, a new Spider-Man is ready to lead.

Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. The documentary Brandy Hellville and the Cult of Fast Fashion takes a deep-dive into the controversial “one size fits most” clothing brand Brandy Mellville and the impact of fast fashion on the planet.
An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th looks at the surge of political violence and anti-government sentiment that led to the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing, and the effects still felt nearly 30 years later. HBO is also returning with a second part to their popular docuseries The Jinx, with filmmakers continuing their investigation of Robert Durst.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

DC Studios is adding to its newly rebooted cinematic universe with a live-action film adaptation of “Teen Titans,” tapping screenwriter Ana Nogueira to pen the feature.
The news comes only four months after Nogueria was reported to be writing “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for Warner Bros. Discovery’s comic book adaptation division. An actor and playwright, Nogueira has been involved with DC for several years now, having been originally tapped by the previous regime to write a “Supergirl” movie that would’ve seen Sasha Calle reprise the character after debuting in last summer’s “The Flash.” That project was scrapped after James Gunn and Peter Safran took on leadership roles, setting plans for a rebooted continuity of on-screen DC Comics adaptations. But the pair have maintained a relationship with Nogueira, which is further growing with “Titans.”

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

When Rocky Morton's and Annabel Jankel's 1993 film "Super Mario Bros." first hit theaters in May of 1993, it was immediately greeted with skepticism by Nintendo fans. The live-action adventure took characters and some of the more notable iconography from Shigeru Miyamoto's popular video game series and repurposed them into a bizarre, dystopian tale about a parallel universe, the evolutionary fate of dinosaurs, and fascism. The whimsical, cartoonish fairy tale elements of the 1985 game were absent, replaced by something steely, dank, and coated in athlete's foot-style fungus. Fans were concerned that the movie wasn't a faithful adaptation of the game, and it was rejected on this basis for many, many years.
Reviews weren't kind either. The film currently holds a mere 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Gene Siskel called it one of the worst movies of 1993. It didn't help that "Super Mario Bros." was also a notoriously troubled production...

During today's Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment released the newest trailer "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," based on the world of the Mario video game franchise. We haven't seen a Mario Bros. movie since the monstrosity (I say that with love) that was the 1993 live-action "Super Mario Bros.", and before that, the Japanese anime film "Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!" from 1986.
This time around, we have Chris Pratt voicing the diminutive Italian plumber instead of voice actor Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario, his brother Luigi, and so many other characters since 1992. (Martinet will reportedly lend his voice in a cameo role in this movie.) As for the plot, we know the kingdom of Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and many others (including the penguins we saw in the teaser trailer) are in trouble. Bowser (Jack Black) is trying to take over all the galaxies,...

In Chris McKay's upcoming film "Renfield," the title character (Nicholas Hoult) find himself falling in love and finding a new life for himself, even though he is still, after many decades, the chief henchman of Count Dracula (Nicolas Cage). A trailer has already been released, and it appears to be a sad-sack comedy about the pressures of working for a horrible boss. The horrible boss only happens to be a blood-drinking lord of the night.
Cage, perhaps one of the gamest actors to have ever lived, appears to be having a ball as Dracula, gnashing and mugging with the best of them. Cage has referred to his own acting style as "nouveau shamanic," describing a process of shaman-like evocation, but interpreted through a modern sensibility. It sounds highfalutin, but it's merely a florid phrase to describe something very specific. Cage's acting style allows him to play moody, subdued roles effectively,...

Universal/Illumination/Nintendo’s The Super Mario Bros Movie has become the latest Hollywood title to secure a release date in China. The big-screen spin on the iconic videogame franchise will hit Chinese cinemas on April 5, in time for Ching Ming Festival and in step with some other international markets as well as two days before the domestic release on April 7.
China has lately made a shift from last year and been regularly handing out release dates for studio movies, and with more notice. Word of Super Mario Bros’ date comes five weeks ahead of time, allowing runway for marketing and promotion.
The film about the famed videogame plumbers, kart drivers and squashers of turtles is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel.
Super Mario Bros stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Outside of Avatar: The Way of Water Chinese audiences have been tepid on Hollywood movies in the recent past, though Illumination and Pratt have solid track records in franchise play while the Nintendo Switch console is available in China and the Mario Bros characters are understood to be well known in the market.
The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo. Universal and Nintendo are co-financiers with global release handled by Universal.
Earlier this month, Universal Studios Hollywood unveiled the park’s Super Nintendo World with a grand opening event.
Other Hollywood titles with upcoming day-and-date releases in China include Shazam!: Fury of the Gods and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

For many decades, the four-day Memorial Day weekend has been a banner time for people to flock to movie theaters. While many schools around the country are still in session and people still have work, it’s the official kick-off of the summer for many, which is why studios frequently will grab the weekend for their potential summer tentpoles. In the past 15 years, seven movies have grossed more than 100 million over the four-day weekend, but Steven Spielberg’s “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” held the holiday weekend record since opening in 1997 until “X-Men: The Last Stand” came along in 2006.
The past two years have seen a far reduced Memorial Day, although last year, “A Quiet Place Part II” and Disney’s “Cruella” showed possible signs of movie theaters returning a few months after the top two markets, New York City and Los Angeles, reopened. The two movies grossed 83.5 million between them over the four-day weekend.

Universal and Illumination’s Nintendo movie Super Mario Bros about the famed videogame plumbers, kart drivers and squashers of turtles is zipping from its planned December 21 release date to April 7, which is Easter weekend 2023.
I hear the move simply stems from optimizing the family audience for that film on that holiday. Meanwhile, Universal will backfill Dec. 21 with DreamWorks Animation’s long-gestating anticipated sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish; that pic moves from its Sept. 23 release date.

A couple of things have caught our eye in February’s Netflix UK line-up, first, the German dystopian sci-fi Tribes of Europa. After the success of sci-fi series Dark, the streaming service invested in a bunch of new German-language series, including the mega-successful historical Barbarians. Tribes was among them, and tells the story of a group of siblings in 2074, separated after a global disaster that leaves Europe riven by warring factions. Also sounding like a good time is South Korean comedy Space Sweepers, about a spaceship crew tasked with cleaning up intergalactic trash.

Lil Yachty’s dramedy series “Public Figures” has moved to HBO Max for development, Variety has learned exclusively.
The half-hour series was originally set up at Quibi last year, but moved over to HBO Max in the wake of Quibi shutting down. This marks the first announcement of a show previously set up at Quibi finding a new home now that the Jeffrey Katzenberg-Meg Whitman streamer has announced it will cease operations.
The creative team behind the show remains intact, with Yachty still attached to star in and executive produce the show, which is loosely inspired by his life.
“Public Figures” is described as being about what it’s like to be an aspiring influencer in New York City. Featuring an ensemble cast, the series follows a group of friends as they find themselves, lose themselves, experience epic failures and hard fought success, hook ups and break ups,...

In 1969, when “Sesame Street” premiered, it invented a thing called children’s “educational” television, and few would deny that it fulfilled that mission — to teach kids and delight them at the same moment. The legacy of “Sesame Street” is vast, to the point that dozens of children’s shows that don’t call themselves educational, or even think of themselves that way, now subscribe to the same mission. In our era, some of the best kids’ TV has been fast and furious, diabolically witty and smart — the educational equivalent of a roller-coaster ride. I’m thinking of shows like “Team Umizoomi,” “The Loud House,” “Apple & Onion,” and “Phineas and Ferb,” which ended its four-season run on the Disney Channel in 2015. So it’s no surprise that “Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe” is one of the sharpest kids’ movies in a while.

Back when it was released, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies was an unexpected treat on a year dominated with superhero behemoths, both in live-action and animation. That's saying a lot for a show that's known for having one of the most polarizing receptions possible (and a notoriously bad teaser trailer) among animation and DC fans.

The feature-length motion picture of the 2013 reincarnation of the Titans sees Robin, Cyborg, Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy motivated to get their own studio movie through wacky hijinks. ABC has given a pilot order to a comedy written by Jimmy Kimmel, Shawn Vance and Daril Fannin.
Called “Adopted,” the trio also executive produce the single-camera project.

Aquaman isn’t like the other DC Comics superheroes, so it seems only right that his big-screen solo show should have a personality all its own — which, in the hands of “Furious 7” director James Wan, it does. Gone is the Aryan-looking Atlantean in green-and-orange spandex, replaced with a bare-chested Hawaiian super-stud with long, shaggy surfer hair and all-over tribal tattoos. After being unveiled to the DC Comics Extended Universe as the scales of “Justice League” last year, Aquaman gets his own adventure, and it’s kind of a shock that it doesn’t suck, but only if you’re willing to sit through two hours of waterlogged world-building before the movie finally takes off.
Remember, just a decade or so ago, the very idea of a stand-alone “Aquaman” outing was preposterous enough to sustain a running joke in HBO’s “Entourage” series, which poked fun at the notion that...
