Starring Sriimurali in the lead role, the film is said to be important for Sandalwood as 2024 has not witnessed big projects from the industry so far. Especially after the debacle of Martin, everyone is hoping that it will bring back the lost glory of the Kannada film industry. After the success of Kgf Chapter 2, Kantara, and 777 Charlie, Sandalwood started grabbing all the attention. However, the industry failed to deliver remarkable content last year and even in 2024. Backed by Hombale Films, Bagheera has managed to create momentum about itself.

Spirit Media, founded by “Baahubali” star Rana Daggubati, has acquired India distribution rights for Payal Kapadia’s Cannes prizewinner “All We Imagine as Light.”

Written and directed by Kapadia in her narrative directorial debut, the film tells the story of two women in Mumbai — Prabha, a troubled nurse who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, and Anu, her young roommate who is seeking a place to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest. The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon.

Kapadia said: “This film is about friendship between three different women and oftentimes women are pitted against each other, but for me friendship is a very important relationship because it can lead to greater solidarity, inclusivity and empathy towards each other.”

The film won the Grand Prix at Cannes earlier this year.

Filmfare Fame At Last

2022 global hit film, “Rrr” won the award for the best film in the Telugu language at the delayed Filmfare South awards. For their performances in “Rrr,” N.T.R. Jr and Ram Charan were named as winners in the best leading actor category and S.S. Rajamouli won best director.

In the Tamil category, “Ponniyin Selvan Part 1” took the best film award. Its director Mani Ratnam bagged the best director award. Kamal Haasan and Sai Pallavi were honored with the best actor (male) and best actor (female) for their performances in “Vikram” and “Gargi,” respectively.

The winner of the best film award in the Malayalam category was “Nna Thaan Case Kodu,” with its helmer Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval collecting the best director prize.

The announcement of the film’s Japanese release marks a significant milestone, highlighting its universal appeal and emotional resonance.

Indian sales outfit Indywood Distribution Network has sold Rupesh Paul’s “Kamasutra — The Revenge” wide ahead of Hong Kong’s film rights market FilMart.

Starring Sherlyn Chopra, Milind Gunaji and Gajendra Chauhan, and produced by San2Creations, the film follows two princesses — one who is robbed of her dreams when forced to accept a middle-aged king as her husband, and another thirsty for revenge.

Indywood has sold the film to Twin, A2 Filmes (Latin America TV/VOD), Filmbridge, Pioneer Film and Rft Films.

The company has an extensive FilMart slate that also includes Sri Lankan auteur Prasanna Vithanage’s “Paradise,” winner of the Kim Jiseok award at Busan 2023 and nominated in four categories at the Asian Film Awards. Produced by Newton Cinema and starring Roshan Mathew, Darshana Rajendran and Shyam Fernando, the film follows an Indian couple who arrive in the hill country of crisis-ridden Sri Lanka to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary.

The comedian-content creator, who recently attended the YouTube Fanfest in Mumbai, also mentioned that both long-format and micro-format content will find their own course and either of them won’t impact each other as they both have a different set of audience and evoke different sensibilities in the viewers.

Kannada films ‘Kousalya Supraja Rama’ and ‘Sapta Sagaradaache Eello’ have turned out to be hits and are winning the hearts of cinema lovers. Both have managed to draw family audiences to the theatre amid the big hype surrounding the blockbusters ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Jailer’.
