The music video is the second video released by U2 for their 2017 single "You're the Best Thing About Me."
Film director Tatia Pilieva said of the video, "The key for me is that when these people are saying goodbye, they are still very much in love,' she said. 'I didn't want to film a bunch of breakups. I didn't want to put that into the world. I wanted to put out something positive. Yes, it's positively heartbreaking, but there's love all over it."
The music video is the first music video not to feature U2 since 2014's "Every Breaking Wave," which similarly focused on a romantic couple enduring the difficulties of their circumstances and the strain it causes in their relationship.
