Presenter Zoe Ball was forced to pull out of filming the series one final due to a personal tragedy. The body of her boyfriend, BBC cameraman Billy Yates, was found at his flat in Putney, South London on Thursday, 4th May 2017 - just days before the final was due to be filmed. Mr. Yates, 40, had committed suicide after a long battle with depression.
On 8th May 2018 Nadiya Hussain announced that she would not be returning to present a second series of the show as she was to present her own cookery show "Nadiya's Family Favourites" for the BBC.
On 9th May 2018 BBC Two announced that they had commissioned a longer 14-episode second series of the show. Production of the show has switched to Voltage TV's division in Wales, series two will air in an earlier 7pm time-slot and the original presenters and judges have been replaced. Television presenter Angellica Bell and Chef Tommy Banks would both present and judge the new version of the show.
The show premiered on BBC Two in the UK in an 8pm time-slot on Tuesday, 15th August 2017. However, after just two editions of the show had been broadcast in that slot BBC Two moved it to an 8pm slot on Thursdays after Channel 4 announced that it would be begin broadcasting The Great British Bake Off in the same time-slot.
