Netflix’s content library just got a little bit merrier. Ten Hallmark Channel Christmas movies are now available to stream on the service, including multiple titles featuring the network’s holiday queen, Lacey Chabert.

When it comes to the holiday movie game, Hallmark is the undisputed champ, regularly pumping out dozens of new tinsel-draped flicks every year. In 2024 alone, it will release close to 50 new movies, plus several new series, across Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery, and its streaming service, Hallmark+.

Exclusive: Eliza Taylor, who starred as the lead on the CW series The 100 for seven seasons, has signed with Verve for representation and lined up her next project.

Taylor got her start on the star-making Australian series Neighbours and will return to her native country for her next project It Only Takes A Night. In addition to playing the lead in the feature, Taylor will also serve as executive producer for the first time on the project.

The film follows four best friends on a girl’s night out, who end up on a path none of them expected and find out it really does only take one night to change your life.

While the film will be set in London, it will actually be shot in Perth, Australia, taking advantage of the countries lack of Covid-19 closures as well as placing Australian talent in front of and behind the camera.

This week, Netflix confirmed the long-held fan theory that there’s in fact a Christmas Cinematic Universe exclusively on the streaming service, connecting A Christmas Prince, The Princess Switch, The Holiday Calendar, The Knight Before Christmas, Christmas Inheritance and Holiday in the Wild. No offense to any of the cast and crew members who no doubt worked very hard on all of those respective titles, but for the most part, they’re absolute garbage.

Instead, the brightest jewel in Netflix’s festive crown is without a doubt The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russell as possibly the most twinkly-eyed Santa Claus that’s ever been seen in live-action. The first movie was viewed over 20 million times in a week when it arrived two years ago, and the recently released sequel is poised to do even better and play like gangbusters over the holiday season.

Still, there is an audience out there that definitely wants this level of Scroogery. Plus it stars Jon Hamm! “White Christmas” follows three seemingly disparate stories.

Netflix is taking on close to 250,000 square feet of studio and office space in Toronto, as part of its agreement to invest in Canada’s entertainment industry.

The company announced pacts to lease two studio spaces in Toronto: with Cinespace Studios for around 164,000 square feet of space, including four sound stages, and with Pinewood Toronto Studios, also for four sound stages and adjacent office space comprising a total footprint of approximately 84,580 square feet. The new spaces add to Netflix’s existing physical production footprint in Canada, which includes a lease of British Columbia’s Martini Film Studios and production sites it sets up on a per-production basis.

The Canadian expansion comes after the streamer in 2017 committed to investing $500 million (Canadian) in content production in the country over a five-year period — a goal Netflix says it’s on track to exceed.

According to Netflix, the new Toronto facilities will provide up to 1,850 production jobs per year.
