I remember when I was younger I saw the Fishtronaut cartoon, I was no longer a small child, but I still watched preschool cartoons. Fishtronaut was just one of those rip-offs of Dora the Explorer, but while I liked Dora I found Fishtronaut to be much inferior due to the bad animation, annoying characters like Zeek and inconsistencies about animals living in nature, even though it was an educational show.
The film, however, simply breaks away from the standards of being a Dora clone and tries to focus on a story mixing fantasy with science fiction where people are at risk of shrinking until they disappear because of a formula that accidentally fell into a city's river. The simple fact that the film abandoned the educational format to try to tell a serious story with characters even at risk of death is somewhat surreal. However, the film fails in many aspects in wanting to develop a serious story, mainly because of the humor (especially when it involves the annoying Zeek) or the fact that the film tries as much as possible to force the viewer to sympathize with a random little girl who was introduced in the film without any introduction or even having her name mentioned. Unless you are a small child, this is a film that may seem very boring and annoying due to the excessive plot holes, unfunny jokes and cheap animation for someone older.
