Netflix is developing an anime-style “Terminator” series, TheWrap has confirmed.
Netflix will team up with Skydance on the series, which will be executive produced and run by “The Batman” co-writer Mattson Tomlin. Skydance holds the rights to the James Cameron-created franchise, which launched with 1984’s “The Terminator” and most recently saw the theatrical release of “Terminator: Dark Fate” in 2019.
Production I.G, the Japanese anime studio behind such titles as “Ghost in the Shell” and “B: The Beginning,” will produce in partnership with Netflix and Skydance.
“‘Terminator’ is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created-and has only grown more relevant to our world over time,” John Derderian, Netflix’s vice president overseeing Japan and anime series, said in a statement. “The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before. As an Easter Egg, Netflix also played a final clip of a Mexican masked animator, which most of the room will have taken to be Jorge Gutiérrez, director of “Book of Life” and a popular legend at Annecy, announcing that he couldn’t announce anything about his “new epic series” with Netflix.
Both “B: the Beginning” and “Hilda” screen in Annecy’s TV series competition. Directed by Yoshinobu Yamakawa and Kazuto Nakazawa, who gained instant fame directing the animation on “Kill Bill: Volume 1,” “B: the Beginning” marks Nakazawa’s debut as a series creator.

Since launching in Japan in 2015, Netflix has focused on providing high-quality and original content from both international and local sources.
“That original content has been strong motivation for new members,” says Taito Okiura, the director of anime at the streaming service. “Our global content library is also the hook for new members to join Netflix. This year, Netflix will spend approximately $8 billion making that library even bigger.”
That sizable war chest is a warning to Japan’s film industry, whose studios and exhibitors alike are now tasked with dealing with streaming video services or risk being left behind.
Going forward, anime will be a key strategy for Netflix as it seeks to boost its fortunes. In January, the company announced an agreement with studios Production I.G. and Bones for the co-production of anime titles to be streamed in 190 different countries.

Recently, Netflix has seen a push to expand their anime collection, especially when it comes to their original content; and rumor has it that Netflix is set to add 30 new animes in 2018 alon! The latest one to hit the streaming giant is B: The Beginning…
B: The Beginning takes place in the kingdom where there have been a string of murders happening in this city and it’s up to the Ris (Royal Investigation Service) to find the murderer who goes by the initial B. As always, there is more to the story and each episode that passes adds to the mystery.
The aspect that will divide audiences the most is the way that B: The Beginning tells its story. For much of its run, it feels like there are two separate plots. One being the police procedural side with...
