Partisan politics was put aside this morning, at least for the moment, as the nation paused to remember the events of Dec. 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked.
President Donald Trump posted one retweet from the official White House Twitter account this morning, then went silent. He did issue a statement through normal media channels on the release of Xiyue Wang, who is returning to the United States after being held prisoner in Iran for the last three years on espionage charges.
“We thank our Swiss partners for their assistance in negotiating Mr. Wang’s release with Iran,” said Trump’s statement. “The highest priority of the United States is the safety and well-being of its citizens. Freeing Americans held captive is of vital importance to my Administration, and we will continue to work hard to bring home all our citizens wrongfully held captive overseas.
Later in the morning, the President shifted back into attack mode.

It may be the highest-grossing franchise in history, not to mention recently spawning the biggest movie of all-time in Avengers: Endgame, but despite such massive success it seems that the continued expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows no signs of slowing down.
As well as the big screen projects that are set to occupy Phase Four and beyond, Marvel Studios are also making serious inroads on the small screen thanks to Disney Plus, with a huge slate of high profile shows set to debut on the new streaming service over the next several years. Endgame may have already demonstrated the strength and depth of the McU’s ensemble of actors that they can call upon, but there are still plenty of new faces that will need to be cast to bolster the superhero franchise’s roster.

Robert Eggers’ much-anticipated followup to his breakout horror hit “The Witch” follows a pair of unlikely co-workers — Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as 1890s lighthouse keepers in remote New England — so it’s only fitting that the filmmaker would reunite with one of his own previous compatriots to craft the sonic chills for “The Lighthouse.” Eggers has reteamed with his “Witch” composer Mark Korven for “The Lighthouse,” resulting in a bombastic and bold musical accompaniment that amps up the film’s chills and drama to full effect.
“The Lighthouse” debuted in May to critical acclaim at Directors’ Fortnight, where it was named the best film of the Cannes’ sidebar by the International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci). In his A- review out of Cannes, IndieWire’s chief critic Eric Kohn raved, “The film is a stunning showcase for Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe to unleash their wildest extremes, by positioning...

“The Witch” director Robert Eggers is making his long-awaited return to the big screen this fall with “The Lighthouse,” starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. The A24-backed psychological drama debuted to rave reviews at Cannes, where it won the Fipresci prize in Directors’ Fortnight, and will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival this month before an October theatrical release. Eggers previews the film in a new Vulture interview and is asked to weigh in on “elevated horror,” a term that pops up every time there is a serious-minded horror film that garners critical acclaim. Eggers has a hot and cold relationship with “elevated horror” and any genre label that puts his movie in a predetermined box.

Yesterday the trailer for Scott Beck and Bryan Woods' horror house flick Haunt dropped. The film from the writers of A Quiet Place is having its world premiere at Popcorn Frights today and the key art and character posters were released. I prefer the individual posters to the key art's collage of the four. They're kind of clean and classy, each one for the Clown, Devil, Ghost and Witch. Check the character posters out below. On Halloween, a group of friends encounter an "extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some monsters are real. And here's the trailer once more. ...
