Never thought it would be torture to sit through a Shankar movie, but it has happened. Probably his weakest, sorry, cringeworthy movie.
Right from the start, the story wanders here and there, as if Shankar's trying too hard to be modern and Pan-Indian. Script wise, Senapathy's character is irrelevant and unwanted, but what's more bad is the direction, the manner in which hero kills the wrongdoers scream cringe and outdated, executed terribly on the screen.
Don't know how he has okayed, but the getups of Kamal Hassan looked goofy, feast for trollers, nothing to write acting as well. Siddharth tried hard as the second lead, but the writing offered him nothing, except for one emotional scene. Simha's character was laughable, Rakul hardly shows up on the screen, and it's a bad sendoff to legends like Vivek and Nedumudi Venu.
Cinematography by Ravi Varman is superb, but bad writing and editing by Sreekar Prasad runis that. Anirudh's work is disastrous, both album and score, not even 0.00001% of what ARR did in the first part, production values were good.
Shankar still hasn't come up in terms with modern day filmmaking, looks lost of ideas, even the grandeur in his direction looks outdated as well. High time he updates himself or else, Shankar the great director will be a thing of the past.

7 years in production. Budget issues. Prosthetic makeup issues. Crew member deaths. Covid & deaths of Vivek & Nedumudu Venu (latter being a key figure since the 1996 film.)
What did we get? A confused 2 track vigilance film that doesnt present anything new to us & poor tamil dubbing of Senapathy's killings in Surat & Punjab. Senapathy's character mimics the Anniyan by replace Garuda Puran with different Varmams, but even his rambling on them goes overboard. Siddharth and his YT team are the Anti corruption force cleaning up the mess in their homes. After 3/4 of the film stops being padded with back and forth scenes, Shankar remembered he has a Part 3 to build up & leaves the film with a trailer which looked more interesting with Veerasekharan's story. But otherwise, the film hardly keeps you engaged and the making is outdated.
There's nothing redeeming in Indian 2 that convinces the viewer to watch part 3. Would have suggested to cut out the songs of the model and that anthem of senapathy as they added no value to the movie.

Complete failure-a disorganised jumble!
A very worthless and repulsive film. Kamal exhibited no acting at all! He simply arrived, as if he were in BiggBoss, spoke, and left. It appears that he is already retired and is not in the mood to put himself under pressure; he simply shows up as a guest, speaks his lines, and leaves.
The choreography for the THATHA VARARU song was the WORST; it resembled the simple hand and leg movements of schoolchildren. It's unbelievable that Shankar paid so much for crew, paint, and sets only to perform those ridiculous dances. The entire film is set in the past, with many hilarious situations, particularly the ones when the bad guys jump like horses and escape.
It's unbelievable that three different people wrote the dialogue for this film, which has no dialogue at all.
If you admire Shankar's work, you have to come to terms with the fact that he DID NOT make this movie. I'm hoping that Indian 3 will restore Shankar's standing.
It's obvious that we miss RAHMAN, SUJATHA (for dialogues), and the lovely makeup artist. This sinking ship is too big even for the greatly acclaimed, beloved, and "past decades talented" Kamal Haasan to salvage. His portrayal lacks the complexity and depth that made him a legend, and instead seems to be a replay of his earlier parts. The supporting cast doesn't do much better and utterly fails to make an impression. I find it hard to believe that this film required a whooping 700 crores to make!

Indian 2: A Catastrophic Disappointment
Shankar has irrevocably tarnished the legacy of 'Indian' with this cinematic disaster. 'Indian 2' is not just a bad movie; it's a betrayal of the audience's trust. The film is a hollow shell of its predecessor, filled with incoherent plot and wasted potential.
I'm stunned by the director's disregard for the original film's impact. This is a painful reminder that even the greatest talents can falter. Shankar has shattered the trust built over years. I will be extremely cautious about future Shankar films.

This is nothing but assassination of a legendary role!
I'm not sure why did veteran actor like Kamal Hassan agree to be part of this mockery.
If you have not watched Indian part 1, you should skip this part 2 and watch Indian 1 instead.
Even after May be a 30 years that is a much better movie.
If you have watched Indian 1 already then you should most definitely skip part 2, so that you don't remember Indian movie for this debacle of a part 2.
Pls save your time and money and use it for something more productive.
I posted this review while I was watching the movie.
The only 2 minutes well spent time during the 3 hour torture.

The 1996 film Indian was never a classic; it was just another movie. However, at the time, Kamal Haasan's makeup for his double role was groundbreaking and made headlines. Yes, they left room for a sequel, and indeed, a much better movie could have been made with today's technology.
But now in 2024, Indian 2 has been released, and the primary question remains: Why on earth was such a horrible movie planned in the first place?
The movie is a complete torture from the very start. The only thing less complicated was Kamal Haasan's makeup, as he has now naturally aged into the role, requiring less effort.
Furthermore, the story became incredibly weak, to the point where it will just make you grind your teeth in frustration.
The wealth displayed is so excessive, even more than that of Tutankhamun, making the movie even more ridiculous to endure. Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh feel more like special appearances, with performances that are not worth mentioning.
In short, this is a movie that should be deleted from all databases.

I don't get it ....
How do you get so many good character artists to say yes to such a horrible script?
And to top the stupidity of the narration, the music sucks, the background score sounds like a drama on Sun -TV.. if I could give a little negative rating I would ... cause this is the worst movie of this year ...
I have seen a few reviews stating that this is a good one, I trust me, this blunder of a movie so bad that you can't even treat it as a comedy... This also sort of solidifies the fact that most of these guys who are worshipped on screen are just duds at the mercy of a good script or a good director... cause if these people were the smart Alec's like how they want us to believe, this movie would have never happened... How did this even leave the editing room, with such a huge stat-cast to comment on it?

Indian first part was so great I was expecting the second part. But in the first 15 mins i realized it is gonna go bad. Lets begin with the music, I feel this is Aniruth's worst album so far. The bgm and the songs was very annoying. The second cast Siddharth, Priya Bhavani, Jagan all their roles was not upto the mark. Sid's role is so annoying felt like his charecter can be totally avoided. The movie can be finished in 45 mins but it felt like they just extended it. This entire part could be 30 mins of the third part they are gonna release. Lets go to the main problem in the movie, the director Shankar sir after giving so many good films in recent times he has only given flops. Cringe dialogs, cringe songs, cringe stereotypes. Im a big Kamal fan and this was a colossal disappointment. I wish in the third part i stop seeing the Sid and group.
One good thing is they did a face swap and voice changing software using AI to bring back Vivek sir and Manobala sir and so on which was nice in most of the places but in a few frames it shows up it was a face swap as it was not masked properly but that was a few frames so you can give them credit for that.

All the reviews read on this movie were negative and hence
went for the movie with least expectations. But I realised that all the reviews were totally biased. Movie is worth watching for its plot - though not strongly projected.
Siddarth's acting is good - other stars have also justified their roles - though not to their acting talents.
Some scenes like the patient's daughter peeping into an operation theatre, surgery procedure and the last thirty minutes chase are absurd and lacks any logic.
The chase which lasts for more than thirty minutes is totally illogic - and extremely dragging . It should have been conceived with more reliable script.
On the whole movie is watchable and definitely better than Kalki.

I don't understand why this movie has such a low rating. I wonder why it got reviews like this. Do people compare it to the first movie? I don't remember if I watched it. But I really liked this movie. Kamala Hassan's performance was especially outstanding. The other main characters also did their jobs well. I really enjoyed this movie. Although I didn't like how the movie ended, showing that there will be a third part and revealing what it will contain completely changed the ending and made it a good one. Anyway, the ending of this movie reflects the reality of society. You can watch this continuously without any boredom.

I watched "Indian 2" with low expectations, especially after the lackluster trailer and songs. I was worried they'd ruin the original, and they came close.
For starters, there's no direct continuation from the first part, they just borrowed the theme and our beloved main character Senapati for this new story.
The plot has its ups and downs- few good, and a few unconvincing and silly moments.
The screenplay follows suit, featuring few engaging sequences, a lot of dull scenes, and cringe-worthy ones.
Kamal Hassan, as always, delivers a stellar performance. His dedication, hard work, and love for cinema shine through.
I wasn't a fan of his makeup in the trailer which reflected in the film as well.
Siddharth plays his part perfectly, and it's heartwarming to see Vivek and Venu back on screen, Priya and others did fine in their roles.
The cinematography is top-notch, with fantastic sets and rich locations.
While the songs are average, the background score is fine.
The fight scenes are a bit over the top, but that's to be expected.
Shankar's direction remains impressive in few scenes, and this is his weakest work till date.
The film is lengthy.
I've got a feeling the third part will have more potential.

Senapathy character of Indian 1995 was a legendary vigilante who even sacrificed his own sin to uphold justice. Sequel seems to be a mix-up of grandeur visuals of "I" (2015) and pathetic mockery of Senapathy, sadly by Shankar- Kamal Haasan team itself. This is not a sequel but self-degradation.
The makeup is inferior. The action scenes primitive and even the setup of action scenes seems cartoonish. The OG character was a senile person who resorts to Varma Kalai as a quick effective method to win over the young antagonists. Here he shows off his six pack abs and a well built body to fight off multiple goons. Shankar messed up so badly, he couldve just introduced Kamal as a new character and setup everything as a new vigilante movie instead of insulting the OG character.
The amount of negatives in the film- the dialogues, the representation of "corrupt " rich people, the over acting of characters, the inefficient CBI, pathetic AI face replacement of Vivek and Nedumudi Venu.. the list goes on. Kamal Haasan got an industry hit with Vikram and Shankar kicked him back to rock bottom with this. Least interested for Indian 3 and Game Changer. Shankar needs to re evaluate himself. I, 2.0, Indian 2- absence of Sujatha is evident and understandable but how can he irritate audience with cringe making; his pupil Atlee hasn't irritated people even with average scripts.
Kamal Haasan should focus on collaborating with young filmmakers more else his film career will meet same fate as his political career.

Felt extremely artificial and there's not enough screen time for Kamal. I appreciate the hard work he put in along with Siddarth. But Overall, storyline is weak.
The item song was unnecessary along with the turtle scene. Please don't go expecting it to be a true sequel. This is just mindless entertainment. The editing is poor and there are too many unnecessary jumps from scene to scene.
It's hard to believe this is a Shankar movie. The same man that created numerous masterpieces has stooped to this horrible level. And shame on him for hiring Anirudh to compose songs. Songs and background music are horrible. Only saving grace was hearing ARRs original score here and there. Disappointing. Hoping part 3 is better.

Stale and outdated template, no emotional connect or reason to kill, just long dialogues in different Indian languages does not justify anything. No solid storyline, very predictable and bland. Make up is atrocious. AR Rahman BGM gives goosebumps, Airport scene is passable, Siddharth gives a decent performance. Jagan and Samuthrakani are ok. SJ Suryah has limited screen space. Viewers will not connect to indian 2. This film will probably be considered one of Shankar's worst in spite of him trying hard. The film has no soul. Save your 3 hours and so something useful. Indian 3 teaser at the end was interesting but I have lost trust.

I usually focus on the good and positive aspects even if the movie is bad. But sadly in this movie, the positive aspects are very few and are overshadowed by the outdated screenplay.
POSTIVES: Kamal sir's acting, Vivek sir's and Mano bala sir's presence, Anirudh's BGM, social message regarding corruption.
NEGATIVES: Poor screenplay, the makeup and getup doesn't seem to suit kamal sir and looks very low budget and artificial, lengthy dialogues makes it seem like a mega serial, very long runtime ( towards the end you can feel the restlessness of the audience to get out of the theatre ).
FINAL VERDICT: Definitely one of the most disappointing movies in the past few years. It's like watching a mega serial in big screen. If you like mega serials then you might like this movie.
If this movie was released 20 years back, then maybe it might have been successful. But for the current 2024 audience , this film is an utter disaster. When the Malayalam industry is producing masterpieces, this movie which has a global reach is truly an insult to Kollywood and its image. I have never given such a bad review for any movie.

This film achieves an incredible feat by addressing ground-level corruption with emotional depth and realism. The way the story connects personal struggles with societal challenges makes it profoundly impactful. The filmmakers deserve immense praise for their bold and meticulous approach, crafting a narrative that resonates emotionally and intellectually.
The direction stands out for its authenticity. Every scene is thoughtfully designed to evoke urgency and reflection, highlighting the human cost of corruption. The performances are outstanding, with every actor delivering compelling portrayals of complex emotions like betrayal, sacrifice, and moral dilemmas. The screenplay is sharp and poignant, while the background score intensifies the film's emotional core without overpowering it.
The production design and attention to detail further enhance the realism, capturing the essence of systemic corruption. From the locations to the costumes, everything feels true to life. The seamless editing maintains a gripping pace, making it impossible to look away.
This film is not just a story; it's a powerful call to action. The hard work of the filmmakers shines in every frame, reminding us of cinema's potential to inspire change. A must-watch that leaves a lasting impact.

"An old wine in a new bottle" portrayed by Shankar for the mass audience and Kamal fans.
The plot of the movie revolves around the incurable disease "corruption" and the misery, agony of the underprivileged section of the society on their fight against justice and equality. The movie shows us how Indian Thatha will cleanse the society from the perilous anthropogenic virus.
Shankar has pulled of the movie for appealing the mass crowd with action sequences,Mass BGM's,songs with the use of advanced technology. The scenarios used in the story were also convincing for the audience.
Ulaganayagan never fails to wonder the audience with his charismatic performances. Shankar proved through the movie that Thatha is getting stronger as he ages. Especially the action sequences with the ancient martial art Varma Kalai is profusely used when compared to the first part.
It was heart warming to see Nedumudy Venu,Vivek and Manobala on screen with their versatile performances and felt contented. Good performances by Sidharth,Bobby Simha & Samuthirikani.
The brand combo Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan & master of the masses Shankar is the only reason to look forward to part 3.
A good entertainer filled with Thatha's terrific action performances.
Rating - 3.5/5.

Shankar and co just tried to make money using Indian 1 fame. Unable to engage with any characters. Emotions, comedy, action nothing worked. Using nokku varmam through out the movie clearly says Shankar did not work on the script. Shankar's saga went down after Sujatha. Nothing new same old message garbage. Shankar sir pls work on the script rather than to think how to spend money useless. No way near to the classic Indian 1. A cheap stunt of revealing Indian 3 trailer to pull the audience. The only soul of the movie was using ARRs bgm in the middle. Kamal sirs efforts went in vain. Thanks to scammer Shankar.
