Photo: ‘Red’/Netflix One of the many joys of Netflix is the large variety of content we might not otherwise consider watching. Sometimes we want our comfort shows; other times, we want to turn away from ‘Bridgerton’ or ‘Schitt’s Creek’ and try something a little different. An Indian thriller, perhaps? The release of ‘Red’, like many movies of 2020, was delayed due to Covid-19 complications, but at last, it has had its debut. This remake of the 2019 film ‘Thadam’ tells the story of two doppelgängers being tried for the same crime by a scrambling and baffled police department. The thriller, directed by Thirumala Kishore retells this fascinating premise, held up by an incredible performance by Ram Pothineni who plays both Siddharth and Aditya. The film is no doubt entertaining and certainly has its moments, but if you’re here for a tightly woven, fascinating plot, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

TollywoodThe film has some sparkling moments but ends up disappointing.Krishna SripadaSome movies, you walk out of the hall cursing the filmmakers. Some movies you walk out of the hall agonizing. With Hello Guru Prema Kosame, Trinadha Rao and Dil Raju almost pulled off a good romantic entertainer. Almost. And when it comes to art, the gap between almost and ‘has’ can be massive, as the movie demonstrates. To say that Hello Guru Prema Kosame was a colossal bore would be unfair. It has some sparkling moments, as you would have come to expect from Dil Raju movies. A father (Prakash Raj) wants to give his daughter the best she deserves and hence, stereotypically fixes up her match with a ‘good guy’ he has been observing for two years – that’s not new. But, the movie carefully blends such a father’s character with a different angle. The same person...
