[Update: Variety has confirmed that "Creep 3" is actually "The Creep Tapes," a new series! This article has been updated with additional information.]
Babe, wake up! New "Creep" sequel news just dropped! 10 years ago, Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice unleashed the found footage film "Creep," in which an aspiring filmmaker named Aaron (Brice) answers an ad posted on Craiglist by an allegedly terminally ill man named Josef (Duplass) looking to make videos for his unborn child to watch after he's passed. Aaron arrives to record Josef's "day in the life" videos believing he's doing something noble, but quickly realizes that there's something seriously wrong with the man who hired him for the job.
The film arrived seven years after the success of "Paranormal Activity" inspired an explosion of found footage horror, which at this point had jumped the shark in terms of practical believability. "Creep" dropped on Netflix and became a huge hit through word of mouth,...

James Wan is developing a dark remake of The Munsters titled 1313. This could be the first television project in the franchise to actually come to fruition after several failed attempts since 2004. James Wan's 1313 could blend well with the modern horror trend of the "social thriller."
The upcoming The Munsters reboot produced by James Wan could break a 20-year-old sitcom curse. Although Wan is a prolific producer, he is best known as the director that kicked off the major horror franchises Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring in addition to helming Furious 7, Aquaman, and Aquaman 2. As a producer, he has largely overseen titles in the horror genre, including the viral killer doll movie M3GAN, the Netflix slasher There's Someone Inside Your House, and the Prime Video reboot series I Know What You Did Last Summer.

On Wednesday, Apple TV+ revealed the trailer for “Franklin,” a limited series starring Oscar and Emmy winner Michael Douglas as Benjamin Franklin. The historical drama premieres on April 12.
The series is set at a pivotal moment in the founding father’s life. He’s in France in 1776, trying to secure the court of Louis XVI’s support for the revolution. There are untrustworthy people all around him, so it’s a dangerous diplomatic chess game he has to play. In addition to Douglas, who also executive produces, the cast includes Noah Jupe (“A Quiet Place”) as Temple Franklin, Benjamin’s teenage grandson who served as his secretary during the diplomatic mission; Thibault de Montalembert (“Call My Agent!”) as...

The Nun 2 underwent changes after test screenings, with audiences wanting more violence and gore, prompting additional footage. Director Michael Chaves explained that the movie's original cut already had violence and gore, but they ramped it up to satisfy audience demand. Audiences' ever-changing preferences and evolving tastes influenced the decision to include more violence in The Nun 2.
One element of The Nun 2 was changed significantly following a series of test screenings. The movie is the ninth entry in The Conjuring Universe and a direct sequel to 2018's The Nun. It follows Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), now living in a secluded convent, as she is forced to return to face off against the demon Valak, who typically uses the guise of an evil nun (Bonnie Aarons), when the entity emerges from its hiding place in the body of her former guide Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) at a French boarding school.

The merger of Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster is on the verge of closing, Blum told TheWrap on Tuesday.
Blum, talking about the duo’s upcoming horror sequel “Insidious: The Red Door,” said their union is “dangerously close.”
Reports about the potential merger surfaced in November and continued after the oversized success of “M3GAN,” which was produced for $12 million and wound up making $180 million worldwide.
After “Insidious: The Red Door,” the next collaboration between the two is “Night Swim,” set for release next year. And, of course, a sequel to “M3GAN” arriving in 2025.

Three months ago, we heard that James Wan is developing a series adaptation of the 1988 bestseller Stinger, written by Robert R. McCammon, for the Peacock streaming service. Most sequels have a tough enough job just living up to their first movie, and this one would have had a big enough job just being a sequel to the original Shazam! What director David F. News of the potential merger of two of Hollywood’s savviest genre filmmakers, Jason Blum and James Wan, has sent jump-scares throughout Hollywood — and not just at Warner Bros., which let its deal with “Conjuring” franchise creator Wan lapse earlier this year after nearly a decade.
The coupling is a big score for Universal, where Blum has a long-time deal that has produced a string of profitable low-budget hits — five this year alone. But the move also portends a joining of two like-minded creators looking to take advantage of a marketplace willing to pay top dollar for proven hit-makers.
“Blum and Wan combined are the unassailable kings of horror-thriller and would be extremely attractive to outside financiers or as a public company,” one top Hollywood agent told TheWrap. “Blum is perhaps the smartest producer in the business and is well aware of the money that Hello Sunshine or SpringHill got for selling ownership stakes,...

Get ready, the Midnight Club is about to meet.
Young Adult horror is a very important, yet somehow rare thing. The horror genre is one of the most malleable ones out there, capable of adapting and molding to tell stories aimed at any demographic and offering something unique and valid. That's why it is especially important to have gateway horror stories for kids and young adults. Horror can help prepare young audiences for the real world in a way that is controlled and safe, offering a respite from real life and some understanding of the real world — all while scaring the hell out of them.
We've had some great YA horror in recent years, from the "Fear Street" movie trilogy and "There's Someone Inside Your House" and "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark." Truly, it feels like younger audiences are finally getting their due, and it's about to get better,...

Two and a half years ago, Sony Pictures came out the winner in a bidding war over the film rights to author Riley Sager’s novel Home Before Dark (pick up a copy Here) – which hadn’t even been published yet at the time. Now the project is finally moving forward, as The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news that Creep and There’s Someone Inside Your House director Patrick Brice has signed on to direct the film, working from a screenplay by The Invitation‘s Blair Butler.
Shawn Levy’s production company 21 Laps Entertainment, one of the companies behind the Netflix series Stranger Things, is producing Home Before Dark, with SVP Emily Morris and creative executive Emily Feher overseeing the project. Since the adaptation is said to be in the “early development” phase, Sony isn’t sharing details on the plot… but since it’s based on Sager’s novel,...

Patrick Brice will continue hanging around in the horror genre with his next movie Home Before Dark, THR reports tonight.
Brice’s film for Sony will adapt the novel from 2021, written by Riley Sager.
THR details, “The plot of the film, which is in early development, is being kept under wraps, though Riley Sager’s book is centered on a young woman, Maggie, whose family fled their Victorian home 25 years earlier in an event that inspired her father to pen a best-selling nonfiction book claiming they experienced a haunting.
“Maggie, now an adult, doesn’t remember those events and doesn’t believe her father’s book. But when she inherits the old family home after her father’s death, she starts to question if there’s more to the house than she believed.”

The terror of found footage horror is predicated on the notion that the characters that shot it ultimately met a fatal end, which fills you with a sense of dread. It's the anticipation of something bad happening, and the latest found footage movie to fill me with similar, albeit slightly different, unease is "Creep."
Director Patrick Brice ("There's Someone Inside Your House") is responsible for bringing the effectively tense "Creep" films to the screen, both of which star Mark Duplass ("Paddleton") as an enigmatic, well, creep who hires people to film him doing things around his house before unleashing the full extent of his much sinister persona. In the first '"Creep," a videographer named Aaron (Brice) is hired on Craigslist to document Duplass' Josef, a supposedly dying father, throughout an average day in order to leave something behind for his son once he's gone. For decades “Predator” has been a black sheep in the monster-movie family. The creature was instantly iconic, but the franchise has always struggled to capitalize on the original classic film. At their best, the “Predator” sequels have been entertaining big-bad-beast yarns but at their worst — which is 60 of the time — they’ve been ill-conceived, shoddily produced and more than a little embarrassing.
Dan Trachtenberg’s “Prey” is the sort of shot in the arm every long-running movie series dreams of. It goes back to basics, reminding us of what made the central concept so captivating in the first place while placing it in a new and exciting framework. “Prey” deserves the ultimate horror sequel compliment: If none of the other films existed, it wouldn’t just stand alone — it’s good enough to spawn a franchise by itself.

Every time some seen-it-all critic declares a subgenre to be dead, a movie comes along that makes them look foolish. For many who bemoaned the demise of found footage, "Creep" revitalized it as a mode of storytelling. The low-simmer psychological horror emerged from the mind of director-cowriter-costar Patrick Brice ("There's Someone Inside Your House"), a hodgepodge of his warped Craigslist experiences and love for character-fueled thrillers like "Fatal Attraction" and "Misery." Its story, of a videographer hired to record an increasingly unhinged client, premiered at South by Southwest in 2014 and made its way to...

The eight-year French mission stands as Franklin’s most vital service to his country, without which America would not have won the Revolution. The return of Halloween, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream is just the beginning of a bullish comeback for the subgenre that will never die
Like the bloody, bullet-strewn killer at the end of a frenzied high body count climax making one medically impossible last-gasp attempt to kill the final girl, the slasher movie is lurching its way back to life with a dramatic jolt. The easily maligned subgenre had shown brief flashes of reanimation in recent years but we’re now in the thick of a full resurgence and this time it’s taking over both the big and small screen. There’s nowhere to hide.
Earlier this year, Netflix unspooled its ambitious Fear Street trilogy (acquired from Fox during the pandemic), adaptations of Rl Stine’s teen novels about a town gripped by a killer curse and earlier this month, it also released There’s Someone Inside Your House,...

Based on Stephanie Perkins' part-romance part-murder mystery novel of the same name, Netflix's new horror film "There's Someone Inside Your House" takes inspiration from '90s and '00s slasher films and combines them with the sensibilities of today's more socially conscious youth. The slasher boom of the 1980s helped solidify horror's reputation as one of the most popular and profitable genres at the box office, but also unfortunately set a trend for some of the genre's more problematic mainstays. "There's Someone Inside Your House" bucks a lot of traditional slasher conventions -- including who is allowed to tell their story.

A diverse cast and some impressively gnarly gore isn’t enough to elevate a rote stalk-and-slash teen horror that tries, and fails, to make a statement
There’s obvious business sense behind the cyclical resurgence of the teen slasher, age-old formula cheaply reproduced by barely-paid no-names aimed at an easily devalued and underestimated younger audience. What’s less obvious is why in the age of low-stakes streaming, it’s taken this long for them to return from the dead once again. But after the success of 2017’s Happy Death Day and 2018’s record-breaking Halloween, we’re now in the middle of a full-blooded renaissance.
Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy (acquired from Fox/Disney) was a scary summer surprise, this month sees remakes of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Slumber Party Massacre land, along with David Gordon Green’s sequel, Halloween Kills. Next January, Ghostface stalks his way...

A socially conscious “Scream” riff about a killer who takes cancel culture into their own hands (with the help of a taser gun and a very large knife), Patrick Brice’s “There’s Someone Inside Your House” strives to modernize slasher movies for the social media age by suggesting kids today are more afraid of being found out than of being filleted alive. Sure, the stab-happy serial murderer stalking this film’s extremely diverse cast of rural American high schoolers is willing to slit some throats at the end of the night, but it’s their bloodlust for accountability that gets them out of bed in the morning. Seldom have the opening moments of a movie been as telling – and as accidentally foreboding – as in “There’s Someone Inside Your House,” Patrick Brice’s adaptation of Stephanie Perkins’s Y.A. horror novel. After the smashing success of the "Fear Street" trilogy, Netflix continues its train of slasher films for today's young adult audiences with the gory teen scream "There's Someone Inside Your House." Based on Stephanie Perkins' romance-with-a-sprinkle-of-murder novel of the same name, "There's Someone Inside Your House" just celebrated its premiere at Fantastic Fest. Taking inspiration from '90s and '00s slasher films and combining them with the sensibilities of today's more socially conscious youth, "There's Someone Inside Your House" is an advantageous slasher perfect for the upcoming Halloween season.

The someone’s coming from inside the house in Netflix’s latest horror offering, a masked-killer slasher with a clever enough twist: said killer’s masks are crafted to resemble each victim’s face. Based on Stephanie Perkins’ novel of the same name and counting Shawn Levy (“Stranger Things”) and James Wan among its producers, “There’s Someone Inside Your House” stands alongside fellow Netflix release “Fear Street” and the small-screen version of “Scream” as successful, if minor, entries in a genre still trying to re-create the phenomenon of its 1980s heyday.
Our first victim isn’t the most sympathetic of figures — moments before his exceptionally bloody stabbing, the star quarterback at Osborne High is shown photographic evidence of himself violently hazing a gay teammate — leading to a split reaction at his school: His teammates are devastated, while the sarcastic, above-it-all group we follow seem none too bothered. That includes our heroine,...
