[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead Season 7, Episode 9, “Follow Me.”] It’s pretty clear that all is not well with Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey). When Season 7 of Fear resumes, Alicia is being tormented with nightmares, fevers and all matters of ailments both from the physical after-effects of her bite (or the amputation) and her guilt over what happened with Arno’s (Spenser Granese) group — guilt that is literally hunting her as Arno will not let it go. By the end of the episode, Alicia’s head is on a bit more straight, and she’s realized that she needs to trust herself to build a community stronger than Victor Strand’s (Colman Domino) people in the Tower. But we still have a ton of questions about what’s ahead in her journey, so we picked the brains of co-showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg for all the intel. Read on for more...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Fear The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 9, “Follow Me.”] To get the obvious out of the way: No, Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) does not make her triumphant return in this episode. But she does get a name-drop in a very key scene, which informs the midseason premiere’s themes. Namely, Alicia’s (Alycia Debnam-Carey) suffering, and not just from her mysterious illness. She’s having nightmares about a walker leading her to Padre, and she’s wracked with guilt from the casualties her pursuit of that utopia caused. An encounter with a mysterious stranger might get her to reframe her mindset about leading… and push her to create a community entirely her own. Lauren “Lo” Smith/AMC Alicia has the walker-nightmare, and when she wakes up, she’s in unfamiliar territory. She investigates and finds her mysterious savior about to be killed by a walker. He doesn’t hear it, so...

Can we give our girl Alicia a break, pretty please?
Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 9 firmly focused on the fan favorite as she came to terms with even more changes in her life.
"Follow Me" was an introspective hour that helped us understand our heroine's actions and why waging war on Strand was the only way forward.
If you watch Fear the Walking Dead online, you know Alicia has been through far too much.
Yet, the show seems intent on putting her through some more torment, and quite frankly, it's hard to imagine when it will stop.
She's being pursued by Arno, battling a mysterious illness after being bitten, and more importantly, she'll be reuniting with her mother she thought was dead.
Alicia: Hey. Hello? How did I get here? Hey, I'm talking to you.
Paul: Hey. Easy.

Abramorama has acquired worldwide theatrical and digital distribution rights to “Upheaval,” a documentary about former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. The indie studio plans to premiere the film in early June 2021.
Directed by Jonathan Gruber (“Follow Me”), the film follows Begin, a proud yet scarred leader haunted by the Holocaust and decades of war, who struggles to balance history and heroism as he attempts to make peace with his greatest enemy and cement a legacy.
The film had its world premiere at the Heartland International Film Festival followed by select screenings across the country.
Begin was a controversial leader. He was alternately hailed as a peacemaker and honored with the Nobel Peace prize along with Anwar Sadat for signing a treaty with Egypt in 1979. But he was also criticized for his handling of the 1982 Lebanon War, with public dissatisfaction of his leadership during the conflict leading to his resignation.

One of the sleeper hits of the shutdown last year was Rob Savage’s British horror “Host,” a very short (just under an hour) and sweetly scary tale of friends whose weekly Zoom call during Covid quarantine gets crashed by an unwelcome supernatural visitor. It was, however, bound to be the exception which proved a preexisting rule: that found-footage thrillers remain a tapped-out genre, no matter if one in every 20 or so manages to squeeze some new life from the form.
Unfortunately, we’re likely to get a lot more in the mode of “Safer at Home,” which likewise hinges on friends video-conferencing during shutdown. Will Wernick’s film not only fails to use that format in clever or suspenseful ways, it blows the basics of maintaining plausibility and viewer interest. You have to admire filmmakers finding ways to keep plugging away within pandemic restrictions. But not every story is suited for Zoom-style presentation,...

February may be the shortest month, but that doesn’t mean streaming services can ignore their duty to entertain us at all times. In that mission, Netflix is making a decent effort in February 2021. This isn’t the most jam-packed month the major streamer has trotted out just yet but there are plenty of new originals to get the job done.
Netflix has a few original series of note this month. The party begins with Kid Cosmic on Feb. 2. This animated series is a comic-tinged adventure from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls. That’s followed by the Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl-starring Firefly Lane on Feb. 3 and Behind Her Eyes on Feb. 17. Perhaps the biggest sleeper this month, however, is Tribes of Europa. This post-apocalyptic adventure series premieres on Feb. 19.

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has acquired rights to Safer at Home, a pandemic thriller directed by Will Wernick that Voltage Pictures had introduced to buyers at last November at the virtual American Film Market. The pic, which went into production during the Covid pandemic, will now get a day-and-date release in February.
It’s the latest tie-up for Wernick, Voltage and Vertical after they worked together on Wernick’s horror thriller Follow Me (aka No Escape) last year.
Written by Wernick and Lia Bozonelis, Safer at Home is set in 2022 when the coronavirus pandemic has created mass chaos in Los Angeles and turned the city into a police state. To escape the grim reality, a group of friends get together for an online party: a night of music, drinking, games and drugs. After they collectively take a hit of what they think is molly, things go terribly wrong. The ensemble cast includes Alisa Allapach,...

VOD is for more than low-budget action movies. Janelle Monae, Millie Bobby Brown, and Jessica Chastain rule this week, starring in three distinctive films available only to home audiences. “Enola Holmes” on Netflix, and “Ava” are new to VOD this week, while the premium-price “Antebellum” is riding high in its second weekend at $19.99.
“Ava,” released September 25, currently sits at #1 on both AppleTV and Google Play at a standard new-release price of $6.99. It was a troubled production: Matthew Newton wrote the film (originally titled “Eve”) and developed it with Chastain, who stars as an assassin in a secret organization. However, he stepped down as its director about a month before production began in September 2018 after facing public backlash to his past charges of domestic violence and assault. (Newton pled guilty.)
Tate Taylor, who previously directed Chastain in “The Help” and “Ma,” replaced Newton; after the film wrapped, it was retitled “Ava.

As we head into October, the amount of new content on streaming and VOD platforms doesn’t seem to be slowing down, Covid-19 or not. For this weekend, a number of new movies were added to the major providers, including Misbehaviour, Ava, Alone, and No Escape. What, then, can we expect from these new titles and where can you watch them?
Well, first up is the Keira Knightley-starring Misbehaviour, a British comedy-drama from Philippa Lowthorpe. Set during the 1970 Miss World competition, the film examines the context behind a feminist protest at the event, and the impact of the first black winner. As with many new releases this year, a cinematic outing was curtailed by the pandemic, and with a decent response from reviewers, it’s worth checking out as a rental on the Microsoft or iTunes stores.

When writer/director/producer Will Wernick's sophomore effort Escape Room was released in 2017, the movie did well enough internationally that Wernick found himself at the helm of a sequel.
No Escape is not the direct sequel that the project started out as, but Wernick's new movie blends two popular concepts, escape rooms, and influencer culture, into a kind of sandwich that begins and ends really interestingly but falls into your typical horror movie in the second act.
The driving force of No Escape, and the reason the movie's forgettable second act doesn't completely derail the movie, is Keegan Allen who plays the charismatic Cole, a social media superstar who, with a few of his less internet-famous friends, heads to M...

‘Unhinged.’
Australian critics scorned Unhinged but audiences turned out last weekend for the road rage thriller starring Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius.
The Studiocanal release, which stars Pistorius as a single mother who incurs the wrath of Crowe’s character, drummed up $802,000 on more than 200 screens.
Even so, ticket sales remain depressed with Melbourne’s cinemas closed (26 per cent of the market) and most locations operating on reduced sessions and with capacity limits.
The top 20 titles generated nearly $2 million, 11 per cent up on the previous frame, according to Numero, but nearly 90 per cent below the same weekend a year ago – $17.8 million – when Universal launched Fast & Furious Hobbs and Shaw.
Clearly the pandemic is deterring some cinemagoers. “I think that the fear of what is happening with Covid-19 is impacting audiences still, especially the older audience,” Majestic Cinemas CEO Kieren Dell tells If.
“Most of the other movies we have on are aimed at that audience.

‘Babyteeth.’
Universal Pictures’ dramedy The King of Staten Island continued its reign at Australian cinemas last weekend as ticket sales slumped, starved of new releases.
Given the depressed state of the market, Shannon Murphy’s Babyteeth, the bittersweet comedy adapted by Rita Kalnejais from her play, launched reasonably well on 46 screens, making $65,000.
The Universal release starring Eliza Scanlen, Toby Wallace, Ben Mendelsohn and Essie Davis registered the second highest per-screen average – $1,419 – among the top 10 titles, behind the market leader’s $1,766.
With 33 per cent of the nation’s cinemas closed and most that are still operating charging half price, the top 20 titles generated a mere $1.7 million, down 27 per cent on the previous frame, according to Numero.
The weekend takings were down 90 per cent on the same weekend last year, when The Lion King, Spider-Man: Far From Home, André Rieu’s Maastricht Concert and Toy Story 4 were raking in millions.

Cate Blanchett in ‘Where’d You Go Bernadette?’
In the pre-covid-19 world, Where’d You Go Bernadette?, a drama starring Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig and newcomer Emma Nelson, was launched in the US last year by United Artists Releasing, playing widely on more than 2,400 screens.
The Richard Linklater-directed adaptation of Maria Semple’s 2012 novel made a decent $US3.2 million in its first weekend and ended up with $US9.2 million.
In the current depressed cinema market in Australia, the movie following Blanchett as a reclusive architect who leaves her family in Seattle and heads to Antarctica, opened on 40 screens, delivering a modest $62,000 for Universal Pictures last weekend.
Blame the market – especially the closure of Melbourne’s cinemas, which account for 27 per cent of the national Bo and potentially up to 40 per cent of the takings for an upscale release like Linklater’s, rather than the movie.

“It’s a rare opportunity to work on something that can express your politics,” reveals the “Little America” music supervisor Zach Cowie. In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above), he continues, “I’m like ‘everyone’s welcome.’ Especially in the time we are living, to contribute to that message artistically. For the title sequences I had the idea for ‘The Rock’ episode to be an international song, but sampled in a big American hip hop track. To me that’s the essence of the show. Hip hop is made in America, but to make it you borrow things from all over the place.”
“Little America” is a new anthology comedy series from Apple TV+. Cowie explains, “There’s eight different episodes, all based off real stories, of people immigrating to America. Every episode you are dealing with a different country of origin and a different time period.
