Toph Beifong is one of the most important characters in Aang’s story in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Her character brought forth a kind of energy in the series that had been missing in the first season. Up until her introduction into the animated series, all the other characters had just been treating Aang like he was fragile. On the other hand, with the life that she had led and the challenges she had faced, she was much tougher on him.

Considering the kind of presence she brought into the series, there is no denying that audiences have been looking forward to her arrival in the second season of Netflix’s live-action series. It was recently announced that the role has been given to Miya Cech, best known for Rim of the World and The Darkest Minds.

Do you, by chance, remember when director McG made good movies? Yeah, I know, me neither. And his latest, Uglies, won’t disprove that point. It is hard to believe that the man who cut his teeth directing Sugar Ray music videos has successfully made movies for nearly a quarter of a century.
Yes, cinema is a visual medium, but McG has always focused more on aesthetics. From the Charlie’s Angels franchise to family fare like Rim of the World and Family Switch, he emphasizes vain visuals instead of character depth and a good story.
McG may have finally found a film that tackles those sensibilities with Netflix’s latest Joey King vehicle. Uglies is a grossly digitally enhanced, special effects-driven, inefficacious streaming film whose themes are so wide of the mark that it practically becomes conceited.

5 Things That Did Not Work for Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas(Photo Credit –IMDb)
A megastar, a big budget, a tried and tested genre – Netflix’s Atlas had all the right elements for a blockbuster, so how did the makers still miss it? One of the most anticipated streaming releases of the year, the film fell short of all expectations.
Ever since Atlas was released on Netflix, the film has been panned by critics. What was promised to be an action-packed visual spectacle, turned out to be a dud. So what did go wrong with the Jennifer Lopez movie? Among the many factors behind Atlas’ failure, these 5 things certainly did not work for the film.
1. Predictable Plot
From the trailer, it looked like Atlas would have something new to offer in the sci-fi genre; but instead, the film felt like a rehashed version of all the robots vs humanity movies we have watched before.

Family Switch‘s age/identity swapping premise has been done many times before. In fact, Jennifer Garner even references her prior age-swapping comedy 13 Going on 30 in Family Switch‘s trailer. But Netflix is hoping audiences are ready for a new 2023 version of the tried-and-true premise with Garner and Ed Helms in starring roles.
The cast includes Emma Myers, Brady Noon, Bashir Salahuddin, Matthias Schweighöfer, and Xosha Roquemore. Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Paul Scheer, Fortune Feimster, and Rita Moreno also star.
McG directs from a screenplay by Victoria Strouse and Adam Sztykiel, based on Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s Bedtime For Mommy novel. McG, Jennifer Lawrence, Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, Nicole King Solaka, and Mary Viola serve as producers, with David Hyman, Jason Rosenthal, and Victoria Strause executive producing.

Time is the measure of success or failure in the streaming world. Gal Gadot’s “Heart of Stone” earned 143 million hours in its first 10 days of Netflix availability. That fell short of Chris Hemsworth’s “Extraction 2” and Jennifer Lopez’s “The Mother,” which each notched 175 million-178 million hours in that same time period. All three movies, along with Zack Snyder’s upcoming two-part film “Rebel Moon,” represent a swiftly disappearing notion in the streaming world: The big-budget, English-language streaming movie is becoming a comparative rarity.
As one industry executive told TheWrap, “Peak streaming is over, Wall Street no longer loves it.”
Compared to just a couple of years ago, the sheer amount of direct-to-streaming movies has plummeted. Netflix, which pioneered big-budget streaming movies, will release just above 40 English-language films in 2023, compared to 75 in 2022. Insiders and analysts blame a change in financial tune. Since the WGA strike began, TV writers have been front and center, with late-night shows canceled, picket lines outside studios and questions lobbed at executives at upfronts about the strike’s impact on their prime-time lineups. But film writers who joined in the strike effort say they face the same struggles, and some worry they’re being left out of the conversation.
Some flashpoints in the tense negotiations that led to the strike, like the use of mini-rooms, are specific to TV. But film screenwriters have seen their pay stagnate, too, the Writers Guild of America said. Many film genres have become more viable as streaming titles than as theatrical releases, leading feature writers to work on projects that often have less favorable pay scales.

Slash Back is the perfect film for sci-fi geek kids whose only dream is to save the world from alien invasion. A few years ago, Netflix made one of these called “Rim of the World,” which had a massive budget and followed a similar formula to Stranger Things, making the unknown the focus, but Slash Back is a film about female friendships at a young age, teenage problems, and identity crises. Most importantly, it’s an Inuit story told through Inuit kids, and that’s what makes it a really enjoyable experience.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In ‘Slash Back’?
In Pangniturang, Nunavut, a group of teenagers awaits the time when their parents will go out dancing for the summer solstice. That way, they get to hang out and do teenage things. Back in the day, Maika, as a young girl, was taught how to hunt by her father.

McG, who has been busy producing movies for Netflix, returned to broadcast television this season with three pilots on three different networks for his Wonderland Sound and Vision banner, True Lies, based on James Cameron’s 1994 movie, on CBS; Not Dead Yet starring Gina Rodriguez on ABC; and the Jensen Ackles-produced Supernatural prequel The Winchesters on the CW. Over the last couple of days, all three were picked up to series. Additionally, BET+ just picked up Wonderland’s series Average Joe, created by Robb Cullen and starring Deon Cole.

Just when you thought it was safe to check out Netflix tonight, the streamer has dumped a sequel to its 2017 hit The Babysitter into its endless river of algorithm-calibrated goo. But while some critics apparently found the first movie charming–and appreciated the presence of rising horror-comedy star Samara Weaving (Ready or Not)–The Babysitter: Killer Queen fails on every level to make even a perfunctory case for a follow-up.
For one thing, Weaving is not the lead baddie this time around, even if most of the rest of the cast from the original encore here. Now you may ask how all the other slain cultist villains return. But a script that combines “no one’s ever really dead in horror” contrivances with some motivation-destroying retconning makes it easy. Too easy. But nothing about the story makes sense on any level, and it’s a wonder that it took returning...

When the original Valley Girl was released in 1983, most of you weren't even a thought in your parents' imaginations.
Meanwhile, like the Valley Girls themselves, I was a high school senior navigating the chilly waters of teenage acceptance.
Because of that film and its place in history, most of you probably have a better idea of girls from the valley than I did at that time. All we knew of such places came from entertainment, and until the Frank and Moon Zappa song arrived (which very loosely inspired the film), everything from The Valley was as distant as Arabia to a girl from Pittsburgh.
Fast forward an incredible 37 years, and the movie that fascinated a generation and launched the career of Nicolas Cage gets a reboot.
Given my very soft feelings for the original film, the thought of replacing it worried me. And it's a musical, which is not, by any stretch,...

Of all the filmmakers that have been absorbed into the Netflix family, few are making the most of it like McG. The man behind the early-‘00s “Charlie’s Angels” films has found a second life as the director of recent Netflix Original films like the recent “Rim of the World” and “The Babysitter.” And the latter of which seems to have struck a chord with the streaming service, as it would appear that McG is back to direct the sequel to his teen horror romp from 2017.

Nickelodeon is getting dark.
The kids network released the first teaser for its upcoming revival of the classic ’90s series “Are You Afraid of the Dark,” and the new version looks a fright more more sinister than the original. The teaser, which you can watch above, shows a new batch of kids gathered around a campfire, submitting fresh scary stories for the approval of the Midnight Society.
The trailer features ominous music and more soundbites of screaming than we ever expected to hear on the channel that brought us “Spongebob,” “Zoey 101,” and almost every other beloved kids show. Then it asks the time-worn question anew: “Are you afraid of the dark?”
