It could have been better, but it was a pretty interesting show that kept me vested considering I'm 36 and this show is about a bunch of high schoolers that "find themselves" after being accused of murdering a peer. As far as high school shows go, it was one of the better series. I hate shows that have supposed to be 16 year-olds looking 25 and acting 35 (I'm talking to you, Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale), but this one was fairly believable and didn't give the characters too much credit, like other shows where a 16 year-old has numerous unexplained financial resources and seems to be smarter than any FBI agent or detective in town. Not great, but good.
Like most of the US' teen TV shows, One of Us Is Lying still displays characters that look too old as a high school student. It's a bit creepy, to be honest.
But, despite that, it's an engaging murder mystery entwined with your daily dose of teen drama. A very binge-worthy show. Until they did a slight alteration with the finale.
Gone is the intensity of the climax and the satisfying epilogue of the book on which the show is based. Replace with your typical bland soap opera twist that clearly is a bridge to the next season. I'm so sorry, but because of that, I've lost my interest to follow their next story.

What a surprise! Thought it was just gonna be another cliché teen-centric show disguised as a murder mystery drama. Romance was very much on the sideline and the mystery part was actually really done well and intriguing up until the very last scene. What I really liked the most was the character growth of Addy!
I haven't read the book yet and I know that it's pretty popular, but the thing is if it wasn't for IMDB's recommendation, I never would've known this adaptation existed! It's so underrated and I feel like this would've been a total hit if it was on Netflix. Anyhow I really wish they do a season 2 as the ending was a perfect set-up for it.

I usually enjoy these types of shows. Although when watching the trailer, my first thought was "Oh look, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars combined!"
I wasn't completely wrong. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed watching it. But I am so over the cliche portrayals of the young people (nerd, athlete etc...) and also I'm getting really tired of 25-something people playing higschool students. Bronwyn was the Spencer and Cooper was Emily of the PLL.
Once almost everyone got ruled out as a suspect it could only have been that one person. Which I am okay with. What I'm not ok is how the whole thing ended. Not gonna spoil anything for you, it was a pretty decent watch if you can omit some stuff.

Ok so from the moment I saw the cast, I didn't have exactly high standards for the show. It seemed like yet another teen drama involving a rich kids' school, a bunch of over the top depictions of high schoolers' lives. But now, I honestly don't know how to describe it. It wasn't a bad show. It had my mind running around trying to figure out who did it and I still couldn't guess it right. The characters had some depth to them; addy has a habit of twirling her hair when nervous and Bronwyn shakes her legs. I also liked the cinematics and thought they were nice. The plot too was very good. What I didn't like tho, is the lack of innovation it had. The story at this point has been worn out. It was used in 13 reasons why, control Z, and Elite, to name but a few. I also didn't like how they munched on the old stereotypes of the bad boy going for the hard working, good girl, the rich kids' parents don't know him well, the jock who's a closeted gay, like this is 2022, being gay isn't that big of a deal anymore . I didn't like how they didn't address certain elements. Like, Maeve says she went through lukemia, we never see her struggle with it, the bad boy has been gone for a while, we don't exactly see what he's been up to during that time, Addy has been stalked by someone but they don't tell us who it was. My point is, the plot had many holes and it would have been better if they'd have been a little but more creative, I understand that it's difficult when almost every single idea out there has been exploited . I did appreciate the fact that it didn't have much sex or nudity. I feel like Netflix turned this into a norm now for its shows, which is a shame.
Anyway, I recommend this show if you're looking for a quick binge.

When a group of give teenagers head into detention, only four of them come out alive.
It's a bit of a mix between Scream and Thirteen Reasons why, if you're a fan of those shows, you may well enjoy this.
It's a good series, it's very watchable, it is guilty of delivering every single cliche under the sun, of course the central characters are all attractive, of course one is wealthy, of course there's the prom...
One of the issues I had, is that it doesn't really care to do anything particularly different, there's nothing exactly new here, apart from the low count.
It is a little padded in the middle, it was perhaps guilty of being perhaps two episodes too long, the first and last two perhaps the best of the series.
It looks nice, the music is great, it's visually very appealing.
7/10.

Gives me PLL vibes although I can't help but feel like these characters could have had some more development of their friendships. There were a few other things that I thought could have been done better but I'm really being picky. That being said, it was very enjoyable to watch and I would definitely watch a season 2.
P.s. Sometimes it was hard to watch because these kids made such bad choices.

Completely different plot line than the book (though of course keeps the same gist), but honestly I found it just as enticing and complex. This version gives you more complexity and sympathy for Simon, more of maeve in her own spotlight, and still keeps you guessing til the end. Wonderful cast and production, plus room created to further another storyline!
I was nervous for this show because I loved the book so much and adaptions always worry me. This show did a great job, I think, of updating the storyline to fit the target audience. I just wish we got more book Nate and Bronwyn scenes!!! Hoping for a season two where they give us more. Casting was actually really good and the characters all fit who I pictured when reading. Overall I think it was a good show, but nothing will ever top the book.

The first episode came out today, streaming on Peacock. With the R-rated language and sex encounters it doesn't appear to be targeting teenagers. More of an adult drama. It has the usual common mix of gay and straight relationships and a small time drug dealer. Now I find myself wondering if there will be a gun brought to school.
It features attractive, mostly unknown actors who carry their roles appropriately. No Oscars or Emmys for this group. Viewers who don't enjoy seeing two boys in passionate, romantic embrace should skip this series.
On the first day of school five students get into minor troubles and are held into after-school detention. An incident outside caused the teacher to rush out, just as the local troublemaker takes a drink from the water fountain. A clue might be the paper cup he used. He quickly falls ill from some sort of allergic reaction, they were unable to save him.
So all that happens right away, the mini series appears it will be about the rest of the students and what actually happened, who is hiding what. Police start to investigate, school lockers are searched, the laptop is missing. Really nothing new here but it is interesting to see how they put it all together.
I continued to watch it as a diversion, it sort of grows on you, wondering what the "Murder Club" will do next to find the one responsible. I didn't find that it has that "must watch" feel to it, more of a guilty pleasure, but I did watch it to the end. A bunch of really messed up "high school" students and a few confused parents. ."

It's a pretty good show...though it's very different from the book and I'd say worse. Most things get revealed very quickly and it kinda makes the story less interesting and with less suspense. The only thing that the series makes you care about is whodunit. The book made me curious to find out what the secrets were. And also the pov of every character in the book makes the characters more interesting and relatable.

"One of Us Is Lying" is hands down one of the most captivating shows I've ever seen. From the very first episode, you're hooked, trying to piece together the mystery alongside the characters. The storyline is brilliantly paced, keeping you on edge with shocking twists and turns that make it impossible to stop watching.
The cast delivers phenomenal performances, each character so well-developed and layered that you find yourself emotionally invested in their lives. The blend of mystery, drama, and teenage struggles is perfectly balanced, creating a story that feels both relatable and thrilling.
Every episode ends with a cliffhanger that leaves you desperate for the next one. The suspense is real, and the way the secrets unravel is nothing short of genius. By the end, you'll be begging for another season.
If you love a good whodunit with a modern twist, this is the show for you. It's smart, gripping, and absolutely binge-worthy. 10/10!

It's the first day of the new school year. Five students are given detention. Simon has an online gossip blog and is hated by the other four. Suddenly, he suffers a fatal allergic reaction. It's determined that it's foul play and the other four become prime suspects. Addy is the popular cheerleader. Cooper is the jock. Bronwyn is the brains. Nate is the criminal.
It's the Breakfast Club with a murder mystery. The police interrogation is completely wrong. Anyone who watches TV cop shows would know questioning minor suspects is very problematic nowadays. Of course, it's done to artificially generate tension. That's how the show operates. It pushes buttons. Everybody is a suspect and there is always another twist. Realism is the last requirement of this show. By the way, the title is lying. Everybody lies on this show. The kids keep making mistakes but I'm willing to allow for it. It's frustrating, but it's a very YA show.
I like the first season enough. It has its fun doing all the convoluted twists and turns and teenage drama. At first, I'm ambivalent about the Murder Club. It seems a little stupid for the suspects to gather together, but I do grow to appreciate the Scooby-Doo adjacent premise. The second season is a bit of a repeat as the mystery keeps going. What I do love is episode six with Vanessa Clark. It's the idea of looking at the Murder Club from the outside. The change of view is refreshing. The show lasted two seasons on Peacock. It could have gone one more, but I won't miss it either.

Great combination between the Breakfast Club, Gossip Girls and Pretty Little Liars. Basically, it Breakfast Club with a murder twist, and I love it. No idea why people rate it so low, it deserves at least an average 8. The actors were cast good, it could have been better, but well...they play teens, and I've seen worse.

Somehow this show was trying too hard and missed the mark. It should have been great; the music, camerawork, original book etc are all supposed to be great in theory but feel forced in practice. The show doesn't really flow, it cringy some of the time and the acting could be better. It is however a perfectly fine rainy day binge. The whole thing is mildly exciting and definitely beautiful to watch; the sets, actors and costumes are all easy on the eye. As a fan of high school shows and novels I was happy about the show but a bit disappointed. The book was awesome. I however did like the changes that the show made to the storyline. Both stand well on their own. Neither was a murder mystery to me, the solution was obvious from the start but it was nice to see it play out.

I hate the "book was better" argument. But there is no other way to describe the feeling I have watching the first few episodes. With shows like "Young Royals", "Sex Education" and "American Vandal" going around, this show screams lowest possible effort.
The book kept me on the edge of my seat, unpeeling secrets with clear set up. Those set up revelations are dropped as exposition in the first 30 minutes of the first episode. In the book we are constricted to the four central characters POV, limiting our knowledge to what they know.
On characters. Except for Addy and Cooper (half of your main cast of characters) I feel they got it wrong. I'm glad they look somewhat like teenagers (Young Royals did this to perfection). Unlike a lot of commentors; I don't care that they cast Cooper (a presumed white character) as a black, because the actor does a good job portraying the feeling Cooper's character. Addy's casting is perfect. But then we get to- Bronwyn: The actress falls completely flat for me in selling Bronwyn's character. Bronwyn is a funny, determined character. I get determined but that cheekiness is lost on her. She was my favourite character and I found myself disinterested (Also her wardrobe is another crime).
Nate: Oh Nate, fan favourite, honestly the actor is doing his best and I like his performance, but the character is ruined with his wardrobe. He doesn't look like a juvenile delinquent and more like an Old Navy model. What are those clothes? The only rebelious thing is his acting and for the heartrob bad boy that was promiced, it's seriously lacking.
This story is extremely character driven, and the show has created such a bland version of it. I'm not asking for some "Euphoria" edits either. The story gave me a strong "Young Royals" and "American Vandal" vibe, with colourfull characters and set up. This show feels like something Disney Channel would have given a little bit more thought too, but also not.
It feels underdeveloped and rushed. I can't bite into anything it is giving me.
They are disgarding some plot elements and even adding new events, but it doesn't feel enhancing. They toned this down so much.
I never write reviews but I wanted to get my thoughts out there and view others opinion.

Though the book was far more exciting, the show is still really good. It's awesome to see these characters and their stories come to life, but you don't have to read the book to enjoy it. I don't get the bad ratings. The show is very entertaining.
It doesn't feel like a very unique story. I get A LOT of Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl and How to Get Away with Murder vibes from this show.
The Nate and Bronwyn relationship/characters feel like a clone of Spencer and Toby on Pretty Little Liars.
I just feel like there isn't enough being done here to set it apart from the shows listed above. I personally enjoyed all the shows listed above though, so that is most likely why i still enjoyed the first three episodes of this show. It's not going to win any awards for having a groundbreaking story, but the casting is well done and the story is interesting enough to hold my attention. If you enjoyed Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl or How to Get Away with Murder. You might want to check out this show. If you didn't enjoy those shows, then this show is most likely not going to be for you.
I didn't read the books so, not really sure how well this show holds up to them.
