Prong have announced their 13th studio album, State of Emergency, arriving October 6th. Coinciding with the news, the thrash vets have dropped the single “Non-Existence.”
The track is apex Prong, holding to the band’s tried-and-true brand of grooved-out thrash. Tommy Victor’s guitar tone is steely, cutting through the mix, and there’s a pop-punkish bounce to the chord structures and shout-along vocals. For Victor, it harkens back to the band’s 1996 album Rude Awakening.
“‘Non-Existence,’ with its techno-style noise guitar that’s omnipresent on this album, is a bit like my retrospective glance at Rude Awakening,” he remarked in a press release.
Victor worked on the LP with producer Steve Evetts and sought to create a record that explored his varied taste in music while retaining the idiosyncrasies of the long-running project.
“It’s a very ‘Prong’ record,” Victor mused. “I think it’s totally genre-transcending and definitely...

Taylor Hawkins was sunshine incarnate. The late Foo Fighters drummer – also a songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist – had an unrivalled sense of positivity and joie de vivre. His megawatt smile could power a stadium show all of its own.
The first of two tribute concerts to Hawkins, who died aged 50 in March this year, does its utmost to summon that same energy. Gathered here at Wembley Stadium are some of Hawkins’s closest friends – the surviving Foos members, of course – family, collaborators and admirers, for a six-hour marathon of a show. Understandably, the mood that fills the 80,000-capacity venue is a strange one. Hawkins’s favourite songs are played ahead of the late-afternoon start time – Abba, Elo, George Michael – but no one feels like dancing just yet.

“American Idol” crowned a new winner last night (May 22). Twenty-year old Louisa, Kentucky native Noah Thompson sealed the deal with a sultry performance of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” and his original song, “One Day Tonight.” He beat out fellow country artist, HunterGirl.
After Thompson’s rendition of “I’m on Fire” — from Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” album — judge Katy Perry foreshadowed his victory. “So many people have fallen in love during that song, used it as their first-dance song,” she said. “I think you just swooped in and grabbed every heart in America by singing that song.”
Thompson also performed Rihanna’s “Stay,” his out-of-the-box pick from early in the season, and delivered a perfect duet with powerhouse Melissa Etheridge for her hit, “I’m The Only One.”

Exclusive: Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons (Bonnie and Clyde) has signed on to star alongside Samantha Soule and Wendy vanden Heuvel in I Look To You, an upcoming indie feature written and directed by Daniel Talbott (Midday Black Midnight Blue).
The drama centers on New York transplant Chloe (Soule), who after the sudden death of her wife, ends up in an inpatient treatment program for extreme grief and depression. Once released, the only place she has left to go is the home of her estranged mother (Vanden Heuvel) in coastal Washington. Structured on the five stages of grief, the film chronicles the tenuous journey of a deeply broken mother-and-daughter relationship and faces down the question, “Can you ever really go home?” Parsons will play Elizabeth, the grandmother of Soule’s Chloe.

Alex Lifeson’s new band Envy of None are releasing their debut self-titled album on April 8, and they recently rolled out their new single “Liar.” The group is fronted by vocalist Mariah Wynne.
“Mariah became my muse,” Lifeson said in a statement. “She was able to bring this whole new ethereal thing through her sense of melody on tracks like ‘Liar’ and ‘Look Inside.’ After hearing her vocals on ‘Never Said I Love You,’ I felt so excited. I’ve never had that kind of inspiration working with another musician.

Dedicated to farmers’ lives, “Working Man” is an 8-minute short, shot exclusively on a Xiaomi Redmi Note7 Pro, which has won a number of Best Mobile Short awards, including ones from Europe Film Festival U.K., Port Blair, Golden Sparrow and others.
“Working Man” review is part of the Submit Your Film Initiative
The film begins on an early morning, when a man essentially living in a hut, is woken up by the chickens in his yard. He undresses, washes his face and starts preparing to go to work, tightening a cloth around his head and picking up his sickle. The next images find him in a field, harvesting along with other workers, although each one essentially works on his own. After picking up all the amount he has to, he makes them into rolls, places them on a stick on his back and goes to unload them. As the day is done,...

“Bloodthirsty,” a werewolf thriller about a rising singer who finds herself in a compromising position, has sold U.S. distribution rights to Brainstorm Media. It will release in theaters and on demand on April 23.
The film, which premiered at the virtual Fantastic Fest Celebration, was directed by Amelia Moses. Wendy Hill-Tout wrote the script with her daughter, songwriter Lowell.
The story centers on Grey (portrayed by Lauren Beatty), a singer who relocates to a remote cabin to work on her second album with noted music producer Vaughn Daniels (Greg Bryk). But as her songwriting progresses, she starts to transform into a powerful, bloodthirsty beast.
Lowell says the film was inspired by her own experiences and the pressure she felt when trying to write a follow-up album to her first record, “We Loved Her Dearly.” Along with crafting the screenplay, she also wrote original music for “Bloodthirsty.”

When a man is mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore, the Oscars are more likely to take notice than when a woman is. That’s largely a function of overall gender disparities in Hollywood: when a man does just about anything, it’s more likely to be noticed by the Oscars than when a woman does. But this year “Promising Young Woman” is an especially pointed expression of female rage. Will the academy be more receptive to it than usual.

Every once in a while, a veteran journeyman actor breaks through at the Golden Globes, notwithstanding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s infatuation with red carpet-ready celebrities. "It's just something I need to do." Brainstorm Media has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Working Man, the feature directorial debut of an Iowa-based filmmaker named Robert Jury - who also wrote the screenplay and produced this. It premiered at the Kansas City FilmFest last year and also played at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The film is the culmination of a decade long project for Jury. The story follows a factory worker who continues going to his job every day, despite the factory being shut down. "His peculiar decision has a profound effect on the whole community, though his actions yield an outcome that no one ever expected." This stars Peter Gerety as Allery Parkes, the "working man", along with a small cast including Talia Shire as his wife, Billy Brown, & Michael Brunlieb. The indie film received a few rave reviews, saying "it's never pedantic or preachy,...

The title Working Man only deals with one aspect of Robert Jury’s film about the effects of a rust belt town’s last factory closing. Allery Parkes (Peter Gerety) is a “working man,” but his breaking-in to continue working without pay while his neighbors (also laid-off) think he’s gone crazy isn’t a product of compulsion. No, he does this because it’s the best excuse he has to escape home. As the opening prologue alludes with Allery calling his son’s name to no avail, this current version of him suffers from unacknowledged depression. He doesn’t talk to his co-workers anymore and his wife (Talia Shire’s Iola) can barely coax two words out herself. The job has therefore been his reprieve—a solitary task that stopped him from thinking about his loss.

But I think being eternal optimists we hoped that after a...
