It's a pity that this music video by Elton John and France Gall is pretty corny and weird to watch since this duet has to be one of the greatest of all time, one
of my favorite through the years. I have fond memories of hearing late night on the radio and it was played in only one station; but with internet I could watch the
video and hear it anytime I can. For those who don't know the song, it's a unique and special way of seeing Sir Elton singing in French and he's incredible.
But "Donner Pour Donner" the video isn't so special. The idea has a similar vibe as "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", the hit duet with Kiki Dee and just like in that video Elton and his female partner show a great chemistry while performing a love song. Difference being that on that clip they share amusing moments as if joking with each other inside the set. In this one, Elton and France are performing the song behind a piano and at times we watch them in the studio booth mixing the sound. Yet we are forced to endure with Elton's horrendous white cap with red stripes, which is the very first shot from the video with the camera lowering down to show Elton's face.
It's strangely creepy and hilarious.
Anyway, it's the song that makes it worth seeing. One of his greatest achievements, very beautiful and with great instrumentals (future composer James Newton Howard behind the keyboards, at the time a member of Elton's band), and I love it. Pity it isn't much of a known song except for his fans. Worthy of view despite not having a better presentation. 9/10.
