The confetti. The tears. The hugs. Admit it: you just can’t get enough of those emotional Golden Buzzer moments on “America’s Got Talent” … and neither can we. This twist was first introduced on the U.S. version of the worldwide talent competition in Season 10, and it’s been an integral part of NBC’s reality TV show ever since.
Throughout the auditions, the four “AGT” judges (and the host as of Season 11) get to press the Golden Buzzer for an act that moves them emotionally, which sends the performer straight through to the live shows. During the now-defunct Judge Cuts round, guest panelists were allowed to push the button as well for their favorites. At the start of Season 18, Simon Cowell announced that there’d be an audience-voted buzzer for an act that wows the crowd.

This year, there was a new twist in that each of the four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara — were allowed to push their golden buttons twice. The show’s host, Terry Crews, still only got a single Golden Buzzer. That brought the total number to nine for this “Golden Summer” season of “America’s Got Talent.”

On the June 25 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” the judges will meet L6, a Filipino family singing group who flew to the United States in order to fulfill their “late mother’s dream” of performing on NBC’s reality TV show. In this week’s “AGT” sneak peek video (watch above), the family explains how they sell garments for a living, but that singing is their true passion. They then deliver a version of “All By Myself” by Celine Dion that prompts Simon Cowell to stop them mid-performance … and he’s immediately booed by the studio audience.
First things first, the singers explain how, if they end up winning the $1 million prize, “We will buy a big, big house for the family, because in the Philippines we rent a small house.” Their family currently consists of 10 adult siblings and four children, so there’s understandably not a lot of space.

Based on your votes in our Auditions 1 poll, the dancers of Los Osos High School were your resounding favorite with over 67% popularity. The group was the very first act to take the stage for the new season and wowed the judges with what Heidi Klum called a “kaleidoscope” of a routine, even though she was ultimately on the fence. She thought that while it was good, they could “up the choreography a little bit.” Howie Mandel agreed with Heidi and voted “no” in...

NBC has unveiled its latest America’s Got Talent spinoff and its got a fantasy football-style format.
The network will launch AGT: Fantasy League in 2024 with judges including Mel B, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. Terry Crews will host.
It comes after Deadline revealed in May that the network had another spinoff in the works; it has previously launched spinoffs including America’s Got Talent: All-Stars, AGT: Extreme and America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
It follows Season 18 of America’s Got Talent, which premiered in May and runs through this month. It is hosted by Cowell, Klum, Mandel and Sofia Vergara and hosted by Crews.
Similar to a fantasy sports draft, the judges will each choose a roster of their favorite acts picking from winners, finalists, viral sensations and fan favorites from America’s Got Talent and Got Talent franchises around the world, all pre-selected by viewers in an initial vote.

To date, eight of the 11 finalists have been named for the “America’s Got Talent” Season 18 finale, and five of them are Golden Buzzers: dance groups Murmuration and Chibi Unity, plus singing acts Putri Ariani, Lavender Darcangelo and Mzansi Youth Choir. There is still one week left to go in the Qualifiers round, and Gold Derby readers predict one additional such act will advance to the finale: singer Gabriel Henrique.
That would mean roughly half of the 2023 finalists received a confetti shower in their auditions. However, that doesn’t necessarily give them an advantage over the non-Golden Buzzer acts still in the competition: dog act Adrian Stoica and Hurricane, comedian Ahren Belisle and magician Anna DeGuzman. In fact, you don’t have to look back too far throughout “AGT” history to find an example of such an act going on to win the show.

Michael Grimm, the season 5 winner of “America’s Got Talent”, is currently hospitalized and sedated amid a mysterious illness.
The 44-year-old singer’s wife, Lucie Zolverva-Grimm, took to her husband’s Instagram account on Tuesday and shared an update with friends and family about Grimm’s condition. He’s currently in intensive care and has been hospitalized since Memorial Day. In the video, Lucie described Grimm as not feeling well for some time, saying he was looking “sickly” and was “fussy.”
At first, Lucie said, she thought Grimm may have had a stroke but “that wasn’t the case.” She said there were signs he wasn’t feeling well, like lacking energy and struggling to finish recent performances. It got to the point that he could barely walk and struggled to even lift his head.

The 2007-08 writers strike is widely credited with helping to ramp up the presence of unscripted television on broadcast and cable.
This year’s labor action, however, is not expected to have the same positive impact that the last writers strike did, and a confluence of events could mean that many of the top non-scripted shows are also hit.
“It’s not going to be a carefree, hot girl, reality summer,” one producer told Deadline.
Some of the popular game shows are already WGA productions. Jeopardy!, for instance, is written by WGA writers. While the long-running daytime prepares its questions in advance of a season, the worry is that a long strike would hit these types of shows, not to mention talent, such as hosts like Mayim Bialik, could want to show solidarity with the writers.

With the announcement of the first America’s Got Talent: All-Stars winner, fans are skeptical about the results. AGT: All-Stars is the third spin-off in the franchise. Its premise is similar to America's Got Talent: The Champions, in that highly-favored participants from across the Got Talent franchise compete against one another.
On February 27, America's Got Talent season 16 competitor Aidan Bryant became the first winner of AGT: All-Stars. His victory was chosen by the America’s Got Talent superfans, a select group of viewers who reflect the diversity of the nationwide viewing audience. There seems to be a great deal of mystery around these superfans, and even since the announcement of the AGT spin-off, fans were a little confused.

“America’s Got Talent” crowned its 15th champion on Wednesday night after what was one of reality TV’s most unconventional seasons. Due to the global pandemic, the show adapted to incorporate video submission auditions, a modified Judge Cuts round then quarter- and semi-final rounds that included live performances from the Universal Studios lot as well as some pre-recorded or via satellite from different parts of the world. Simon Cowell was absent from the second half of the season while recovering from surgery, leaving Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and new judge Sofia Vergara alone on the panel.

For the first three seasons of “The Masked Singer,” only the studio audience got to weigh in with their votes on the best and worst contestants. That feedback helped the four judges make their decisions. The singer with the least support was eliminated at the end of each episode, with a jaw-dropping reveal as host Nick Cannon helped them remove their elaborate costume.
For season 4, producers have listened to us and found a way for the home audience to participate in the process. We still aren’t getting live episodes, like other singing shows such as “The Voice” and “American Idol.” That would have allowed all of America to take part in picking out those celebrities who continue in the quest for the Golden Mask and those who are eliminated.
Instead, taking a page from “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” the powers-that-be at “The Masked Singer” have assembled a group of super fans.

European broadcasting group Rtl, whose bouquet of companies include “American Idol” producer Fremantle, has seen group revenue down 16.4% to €2.7 billion ($3.3 billion) in the first half of 2020, according to half-yearly results declared on Thursday.
Adjusted earnings before interest and amortization (Ebita) fell 52% to €258 million ($305 million).
Fremantle’s half-yearly Ebita stood at €23 million ($27.2 million), less than half of the €52 million ($61.5 million) achieved during the same period last year. Revenues dropped from €828 million ($979 million) to €707 million ($836 million). The decline was “mainly due to fewer deliveries of shows and postponements of productions as a result of the Covid-19 impact on numerous territories,” Rtl said.
The overall group downturn was due to the Covid-19 outbreak across Europe in the second quarter of the year, that led to a year-on-year fall of 40% in advertising revenue. However, this fall would be down to 10% in the third quarter, the group estimates, but is unable to provide an outlook for the full year,...

Exclusive: 30 Rock alum Keith Powell, Jill Knox (Keith Broke A Leg), Shakina Nayfack (Transparent), Ely Henry (Suburgatory) and Preacher Lawson (America’s Got Talent) are set as series regulars in NBC comedy series Connecting, from Blindspot creator/exec producer Martin Gero, his frequent collaborator Brendan Gall and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios.
Written and executive produced by Gero and Gall, Connecting, which has received an eight-episode straight-to-series order, is an ensemble comedy about a group of friends trying to stay close (and sane) through video chats as they share the highs and lows of these extraordinary times.
Nayfack will play Ellis, a pragmatic, type-a and a huge Clippers fan. Powell and Knox, who are married in real-life, will play husband and wife Garrett and Michelle, who are thriving in quarantine. Henry will play Rufus, paranoid and conspiracy minded, he’s more comfortable online than off. Lawson will portray Ben.

“America’s Got Talent” has gone through many different facelifts at the judging panel, but one person has stayed put for the past 11 seasons: Howie Mandel. This Canadian comedian originally joined up with NBC’s reality TV show in Season 5, where he had big shows to fill as David Hasselhoff‘s replacement. Howie sat beside Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne for two seasons, with Howard Stern stepping in for Piers in Season 7 and Heidi Klum & Mel B taking over for Sharon in Season 8.
Over the past decade Howie has made a name for himself as the funniest and wildest panelist, but also someone with a keen eye for talent. In fact, his Golden Buzzer Grace VanderWaal ended up winning Season 11 and becoming one of the most successful “Agt” acts of all time. What do you think of new “America’s Got Talent” judge Sofia Vergara? She joined the show for season 15 as one of the replacements for Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough, who were bounced after just one year on “Agt.” The other woman on the panel is returning fan favorite Heidi Klum.
Do you think Sofia has the same knack for spotting for talent as the last actress to serve on the judging panel? Remember, Gabrielle gave her Golden Buzzer to singer/pianist Kodi Lee. He went on to win “America’s Got Talent” 2019. Surprisingly, Lee did not number among the 40 acts vying for the win on season 2 of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.”

Comedians tend to fare pretty well on America’s Got Talent, but we’ll let you decide whether this Season 15 hopeful has what it takes to become the next Preacher Lawson.
TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek of Tuesday’s Agt (NBC, 8/7c), which introduces the viewers to Los Angeles-based funnyman Usama Siddiquee. By employing the time-honored combination of self-deprecation and oversharing, Siddiquee has all four judges in stitches — including Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell, both of whom are notoriously difficult to impress, albeit for very different reasons.

Has “America’s Got Talent” found its own version of Strauss Serpent? That 2017 winner of “Africa’s Got Talent” was a contortionist who twisted and bent his arms, legs and torso into nightmarish positions. Strauss became such a hit overseas that he was asked to participate in Season 2 of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” which aired earlier this year. In NBC’s sneak peek video for Tuesday’s episode of “Agt” Season 15 (watch above), viewers are introduced to Frenchie Babyy, a 25-year-old dancer from the Bay Area who appears to be just as talented as Strauss.

“America’s Got Talent” went through a major overhaul for season 15. Two of the four judges from season 14 of “Agt” — newcomers Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough — were bounced from the panel and replaced by returning fan favorite Heidi Klum and newcomer Sofia Vergara.
Vergara is a four-time Emmy nominee for her scene-stealing work on “Modern Family,” which just wrapped after 11 seasons. She has been a popular presence on talk shows and red carpets because she always speaks her mind. Will she do the same on “America’s Got Talent”?
What do you think of this new addition to the panel? After watching the first episode of “Agt” 15, do you miss Gabrielle and Julianne or are you glad that they are gone? Give a grade to Sofia in our poll below and then sound off in the comments section.

Since mid-March, the coronavirus pandemic has upended every aspect of life in the United States, causing stay-at-home mandates in most states in an attempt to contain the spread of Covid-19.
As a consequence, the entertainment industry — a multi-billion-dollar global business — has come to a grinding halt, with every television show and movie indefinitely shut down, putting most of the tens of thousands of people employed by those productions out of work. The shutterings hit the broadcast networks — Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, and The CW — toward the end of the traditional TV season, so some shows had already completed production before the summer hiatus. Others — such as ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” which had shot 21 episodes of its 25-episode order — simply had to adjust accordingly, concluding its season early on April 9.
The bigger concern for the networks is what to do with their fall 2020 schedules, which under normal circumstances would have been unveiled to advertisers,...

One of the most successful contestants to ever come out of “America’s Got Talent,” opera singer Jackie Evancho, now age 20, made a return trip to the franchise during the 2019 spinoff series “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” With “Agt” set to return this summer on NBC, we thought it was the perfect time to revisit Evancho’s most powerful performance on the reality TV stage. In the Season 1 finale of “The Champions,” the then-18-year-old gave us all goosebumps by singing Barbra Streisand‘s “Somewhere” while donning a blue ballgown (watch above).
Judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B and Heidi Klum were all speechless as they watched Evancho do her thing. Weeks earlier she had been eliminated in the first round of competition, but she still accepted their invitation to return in the finale’s results show for this non-competitive performance. Later that evening, close-up magician Shin Lim was named...

What a difference a year makes. NBC on Monday released the first photo of America’s Got Talent‘s Season 15 judges panel, and there’s been quite a shake-up.
As previously reported, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum are filling the seats left vacant by Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough, both of whom were let go after just one season. This marks Vergara’s first time appearing on Agt, whereas Klum already served as a judge from 2013–2018; she also judged both seasons of America’s Got Talent: The Champions.

NBC’s America’s Got Talent has filled its two vacant judge chairs. Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is joining the hit summer reality series as a new judge for its upcoming 15th season. Additionally, Heidi Klum, who was a judge on Agt for six seasons, from 2013-2018, is coming back. They are being joined by returning judges Simon Cowell, who is Agt’s creator and executive producer, and Howie Mandel, as well as host Terry Crews.
“I’m so happy to join my new family on Agt,” said Vergara, who will be making Agt history. “This is a new and exciting next chapter for me and I’m extremely proud to be the first Latin judge on the show. I can’t wait to watch all the talent and have fun with all you guys!”
Vergara and Klum succeed Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough who were let go in November after one season on Agt.
