A commercial that is as weird as it is metaphorical (and sometimes entirely unrelated) for an entertainment system like the PlayStation 2. Who knew that a commercial for a system that would define a generation of interactive entertainment, and birth benchmark influences that are still being felt today in the videogame industry, would be such an avant-garde fever dream?
It's the kind of commercial that immerses you into its surreal atmosphere and strange nameless characters. It feels like it takes a page out of Lynch's previous and most iconic avant-garde work, Erasherhead. Pushing the surrealism without feeling bombastic, nor leaving you entirely confused and lost.
To this day, no commercial has quite come off as an artistic work of art as The Third Place. Commercials of today could only wish they could be this memorable and creatively liberating. David Lynch was the mastermind behind it all.
