Deadline brings word today that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Stephan James (Beacon 23) are the current frontrunners to play John Stewart in DC Studios and HBO's Lanterns.
Kyle Chandler was cast as Hal Jordan earlier this week and, according to the trade, no offers have been made yet. As we reported earlier today, F1 star Damson Idris was in the running but that no longer appears to be the case.
Both actors would bring a lot of this series and the wider Dcu and, as of now, it appears the plan is for John to be this shared world's main Green Lantern. Chandler has reportedly only signed a deal for Lanterns and no features so likely won't appear beyond the series.
Pierre is no stranger to the DC Universe after playing Dev-Em in Krypton and recently became a fan favourite choice to play John after starring in Rebel Ridge.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman became an icon. He first starred in Captain America: Civil War, and later appeared in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
Tragically, the actor, who was also known for his work in movies like Da 5 Bloods, 21 Bridges, and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, died in 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer. His illness was kept private until his death in August of that year, and the news of his passing sent shockwaves not only through Hollywood but across the globe.
We've since learned that the Black Panther star never stopped fighting, and his final MCU performance was as Star-Lord in Disney+'s What If...? Boseman received a well-deserved posthumous Emmy for "Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance" for his work in that series.

During Steven Zaillian’s Ripley, the viewer gleans a lot from things that aren’t said, whether that’s through telltale props, intricate sets or fabulous 1960s fashion. But it’s the show’s sound mixing that really becomes a key player in the Netflix series, adding tension and mystery to scenes with little dialogue or score.
“Steve clearly planned the show with sound in mind and really left room for the environments and ambiences to breathe and support a tone,” says sound designer and rerecording mixer Larry Zipf. “We had many long stretches with little dialogue or little music, and wherever there was opportunity for sound to give the impression of life outside the frame, whether it’s diegetic or in Tom’s mind, Steve was always looking for that.”

Chadwick Boseman may have left this world earlier than the rest of us three and a half years ago, but he still remains as alive as ever in the hearts and memories of his fans, friends, family, and especially his co-stars. Among these co-stars comes Hollywood’s very own favorite Angela Bassett as well, who played his loving mother in the Black Panther saga.
Chadwick Boseman (@chadwickboseman | Ig)
In fact, Bassett feels her connection with Boseman went a lot deeper than what was seen on the big screens. As she recently shared during an interview, not only did working alongside the late legend mean an incredible lot to her, but she even felt that she was perhaps destined to play Boseman’s mother, almost as if it was all already written in the stars. Here’s why.

Emma Thompson looks set to do a bit of fishing and foil a kidnapping in The Fisherwoman: more on the film here.
The resurgent trend of action movies named after day-to-day jobs and activities continues. This year alone, Aaron Eckhart has been The Bricklayer, and Jason Statham as – of course – The Beekeeper.
Now though, step forward Emma Thompson. I’ve long wondered if she might take an action project, and it appears that’s what’s happened. Not just any one either: she’s going to headline The Fisherwoman.
I’m in already, for the avoidance of any doubt.
Filming is getting underway on the film this very week, and it’ll tell the story of Thompson’s widowed fisherwoman, who interrupts a kidnapping. Laurel Marsen, who was in Ms Marvel, will play the teenager who was about to get kidnapped until Emma Thompson rocked up. But there’s more to this than that,...

Ending the year in signs is the hilarious, adventurous, sharp-tongued era of Sagittarius.
There’s truly nothing like them. They are quirky, mysterious and full of life. While they naturally grab the attention in the room, they feel most comfortable when they’re in their lonesome.
Sagittarius is the jack-of-trades sign; the sign that takes up space in every all industries — whether they be an actor, comedian or a bus driver — their versatility allows them to do it all. And that flexibility helps fuel their “I’ll try anything once” mindset. To them, what is life if you’re not living it to your fullest? The only thing you have to beware of is their slick mouth. Between Sagittarius, Virgo and Aries it’s hard to tell which sign is more brutally honest. Truly, to know Sagittarius is to love them. And if you don’t love…it doesn’t...

Even before the first two episodes of "Citadel" debuted on Prime Video, the series made headlines for breaking Hollywood records. A troublesome production process pit executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo (of "Avengers: Endgame" fame) against creators Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec ("Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol"). When Amazon sided with the Marvel directors, it led to the exit of Appelbaum, Nemec, and director Brian Kirk ("21 Bridges"), which meant costly reshoots were set to follow. And when I say costly, I'm under-exaggerating: "Citadel" ended up with a record budget of $300 million for its six 40-minute episodes. That comes out to a whopping $1.25 million per minute!
Does that jaw-dropping price tag correlate to a quality spy thriller? It depends on who you ask. /Film's review dubs the series a "Bourne ripoff with no identity," pointing to underdeveloped ideas and a lackluster romance. But according to Prime Video, not everyone feels the same.

"While staying true to the DNA of the original story, this contemporary drama will delve deeper into the chameleon like 'anti-hero' at the heart of the story in a high octane, cinematic, globetrotting 'cat and mouse' thriller, set amidst the turbulent geo-political landscape of our time."

Prime Video has released the first trailer for "Citadel," its long-gestating spy action thriller series, executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. All four creatives were on hand with showrunner David Weil for a virtual press conference, which doubled as a trailer launch event, live from Los Angeles today.
It's been a long road for "Citadel" to the small screen, and along the way, the series has racked up one of the biggest budgets of any TV show ever made. This is nothing new for Prime Video, which also spent almost half a billion dollars on season 1 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." However, "Citadel" is attempting to create a new global franchise, with this first seven-episode series, led by Madden and Chopra, kicking off a slate of international spin-offs set in places like India, Italy, and Mexico.

Fresh off a standout performance in director Sophie Hyde's affecting drama, "Good Luck To You, Leo Grande," Emma Thompson is set to dramatically switch things up. The esteemed actress will soon play the role of "a widowed fisherman" who becomes involved in a teen's kidnapping in the action thriller "The Fisherwoman." Announced via Variety in early February, the film will be directed by Brian Kirk, who's known mostly for his work on TV shows including "Luther," "Dexter," and "Game of Thrones." And while little is known about the project at this time, it's intriguing if only for Thompson, who continues to make diverse and interesting role choices.
The actress has always sought out challenging projects. When asked for her advice to up-and-coming actors, she told BAFTA back in 2013, "Make your choices carefully and don't do things just because they might pay well, do the things that really interest you.

Sienna Miller is opening up about the sexism she’s faced in theatre.
Speaking to Vogue for their December cover story, she said she was once “offered less than half” the weekly pay of her male costar for a play on Broadway.
While Miller didn’t name the show or producer as she “didn’t want to be mean”, she did end up taking the role despite the pay discrepancy.
“I said to the producer, who was extremely powerful, it’s not about money — it’s about fairness and respect, thinking they’d come back and say, ‘Of course, of course,'” she recalled.

After acquiring the streaming rights to the recent "Halloween" movies, the ongoing "Chucky" franchise, and even a "Friday the 13th" prequel series (yes, which means you can start placing your bets on when exactly we'll receive a crossover extravaganza), Peacock continues to make some pretty significant moves.
Variety reports that UK broadcaster Sky Studios and the Peacock streaming service have joined forces to create a series based on the 1971 political thriller novel "The Day of the Jackal," written by author Frederick Forsyth, and its classic 1973 big-screen adaptation of the same name, directed by Fred Zinnemann. Set in 1963 during the pivotal moment in history when French president Charles de Gaulle granted neighboring Algeria its independence, the fictional story follows a ruthless assassin who goes by the codename of "Jackal" who is recruited by the far-right Organisation de L'Armée Secrète (Oas) to take out de Gaulle in retaliation. Sienna Miller says in a new interview with British Vogue that she once was told by an “extremely powerful” Broadway producer to “f*ck off” when inquiring about why she was “offered less than half” the salary of a male co-star.
The actress, who did not name the play, says she told the producer, “It’s not about money – it’s about fairness and respect.” Her thinking was she’d be met with an “Of course, of course,” but instead “they just said, ‘Well f*ck off then.’”
Miller has appeared in two Broadway productions: a revival of Cabaret when, in 2015, she replaced original star Michelle Williams in the starring role of Sally Bowles, and, in 2009, After Miss Julie, in which she co-starred with Jonny Lee Miller. Sienna Miller did not indicate in which production she experienced the problem,...

The show hails from Katori Hall, who created, showruns, and executive produces the series. P-Valley takes place in the Pynk, a strip club in the Mississippi Delta in the American South. Often described as a neo-noir, P-Valley is a character-driven thriller led by four women: Brandee Evans as seasoned stripper Mercedes, Elarica Johnson as newcomer Autumn Night, Shannon Thornton as Miss Mississippi, and Skylar Joy as Gidget.
In Season 2, P-Valley presented a timely twist by seeing the Pynk struggle to remain in the game during the pandemic. Each episode built on a war for control of the club, with new faces adding plenty of spice to an already hot mix of personalities. STX is shuttering its UK operation, we understand, with most staff currently in consultation about their options. There will be a number of layoffs.
STX declined comment on the situation, which by our estimate could impact at least a dozen employees.
When it opened in 2017, STX’s impressive and large London office was a talking point among UK distributors. The studio always struggled to fill the vast top-floor space on the Strand and it seems that the overhead and expense of UK distribution is no longer viable.

Sienna Miller now stars in Netflix’s #MeToo drama “Anatomy of a Scandal,” but the film veteran says she was not aware of a massive Hollywood scandal unfolding years ago: Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment and rape of actresses.
Miller, who worked with mega-producer Weinstein on 2006’s Edie Sedgwick biopic “Factory Girl,” admitted that she was completely oblivious to Weinstein’s attacks on women at the time. The Miramax and Weinstein Company executive was convicted of rape in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
“I wasn’t scared of him, actually,” Miller told The Guardian. “And I was not aware that he was raping people.”
While Weinstein’s infamous harshness was well-known (“You weren’t really inaugurated until Weinstein made you cry”), Miller added that she “genuinely felt he’d given [her] the biggest validation” by criticizing her behind the scenes.

“The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is remarkable because of Chastain, who portrays the infamous televangelist from college age to advanced middle age (with the use of prosthetics). The film is a balanced and nuanced story of Tammy Faye, making significant commentary on the state of America and religion during her reign of influence. The ending of the film is an artistic use of cinema – by director Michael Sholwalter – and Jessica Chastain simply kills it.

The veteran producer of the “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is Gigi Pritzker, who previously had guided Oscar nominated films like...

Three recent theatrical films infused the VOD market this week, but each took different routes for very different results. Paramount’s “Scream” performed best with a surprising strategy: Debuting at $4.99 after about 45 days in theaters, the franchise reboot skipped a higher-price initial offering. It also comes before the likely imminent streaming release via Paramount+. The film took two of the #1 slots this week.
Vudu, where “Scream” is #1 for the week, ranks by revenue spent. That means it had more than four times as many transactions as #2, “Sing 2” (Universal), which costs $19.99 (lowered this week from $24.99). That’s a strong showing.
“Sing 2” has spent nearly two months on the charts. Still #6 in theaters this weekend, it has been among the top PVOD titles daily since its debut. Along with “Scream,” it is one of four titles to place on all three charts. “Blacklight” (Open Road/$19.99), on PVOD after its third weekend,...

As timely as last night’s episode of “ESPN Sports Center,” and as riveting as a well-crafted tick-tock suspenser, “National Champions” adroitly avoids most of the pitfalls common to conventional “message movies” by raising and debating issues in the context of a solid and involving drama that can be enjoyed even by people who couldn’t tell an offside kick from a cheerleader’s cartwheel. It’s intent on exposing the inner workings of college football, but don’t expect a lot of gridiron action here. Except for a few — very few — highlight clips sprinkled here and there, the focus remains on the interactions of players, coaches, media scrums, well-heeled boosters, freelance fixers, and NCAA movers and shakers during the countdown to the fictional Snickers College Football Championship.

“Till” tells the story of Mamie Till-Mobley (Deadwyler), chronicling her decision to have an open casket at Emmett’s funeral and allowing Jet magazine to publish David Jackson’s funeral photos in order to ensure people everywhere saw the true horrors of her son’s murder.
