Matt Zane is a relatively obscure pornographer who has common cause with hall of fame director Bob Chinn in his attempts to integrate sexual porn with the content of action movies. "Sexual Species" unfortunately takes a workable, interesting sci-fi premise and goes nowhere with it.
Plot concerns aliens on Earth who have traveled from another galaxy when it was aligned with ours, and utilized a device called a Triangate to make the trip. Highly sexualized creatures are planning to return to their home planet at the upcoming next alignment, also expecting to head back to earth on the alignment that occurs after that one, to conquer and colonize our world. With "Star Wars" imitation opening scroll reciting the plot and titling this movie as Episode IV: The Departure, what follows is oodles of gonzo porn scenes plus the martial arts fighting and suspenseful attack of Earth's freedom fighters The Opposition against the aliens led by fetish-garbed beauty Sunrise Thomas.
Director Zane typically casts himself as The Opposition action hero, kickboxing the bad aliens, while very sexy actresses Thomas, Asia Carrera and Tami Monroe play the horny alien females, who capture stunning Brit actress Nici Sterling among The Opposition protagonists. Spotlighted scene cross-cuts between a pair of 3-way sex scenes, one in which Thomas is d.p.'d by Sean Rider and Rick Masters, while Nici is d.p.'d by Dave Hardman and Steve Hatcher.
Main disappointments are on the action side (while the XXX content is certainly well-handled for the target audience), which pretty much destroys hopes for crossover viewing beyond pornhounds. The Triangate turns out to be a large triangle, whereas something out of the "Timegate" series would have been more impressive; fight scenes are silly on the level of Bob Chinn and John Holmes' antics, already satirized in P. T. Anderson's "Boogie Nights"; and the entire production shot on location plays more like a backyard movie than a real film.
So we're left with beauties in latex and fetish gear humping away with gusto, and several non-actors (including Zane) playing at bomb disposal experts and commandos with just a nondescript van as main prop. Zero interest in nonexistent Episodes 1-3 or 5-9 is generated.
