Star Wars: Resistance Reborn sets the stage for The Rise of Skywalker. Our review...
Star Wars: Resistance Reborn is in a difficult spot: ostensibly filling in the gaps between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker but also constrained by the mystery of the latter. It explains some of what happened after the battle on Crait, while Poe Dameron reckons with his actions during Episode VIII. As far as Star Wars novels go, this is a thoroughly average one from an accomplished author, and even if I didn’t love this book, I’d love to see more Star Wars from Rebecca Roanhorse.
With the Resistance down to only enough crew members to fit on the Millennium Falcon, General Organa calls for help. Her plan is four-fold: visit an old political ally on Ryloth; steal back captured Resistance ships headed for a First Order scrap yard...

HBO has released the first trailer and confirmed the release date for “The Outsider,” a 10-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name.
Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Ben Mendelsohn —who also serves as producer — and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (“The Color Purple”) lead the cast of this drama series, which also includes Emmy nominee Bill Camp (“The Night Of”), Oscar nominee Mare Winningham (“George”), Paddy Considine (“The Third Day”), Julianne Nicholson (“Mare of Easttown”), Yul Vázquez (“Divorce”), Jeremy Bobb (“The Knick”), Marc Menchaca (“The Sinner”), and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jason Bateman.
Stephen King’s “The Outsider” is about the mysterious forces surrounding the case of an 11-year-old boy’s gruesome murder. Bloodline filmmaker Henry Jacobson held nothing back in his feature directorial debut. The career documentarian was encouraged by his leading man, Seann William Scott, to take this serial-killer-has-a-baby story in an even darker direction; such encouragement, however, ultimately led to an Nc-17 rating as of the film’s world premiere at 2018’s Fantastic Fest. With Blumhouse involved, the pic’s gore needed to be pared back for an R-rating.

The manic, filter-free, all-id persona Seann William Scott embodied in the roles that first brought him to attention nearly a couple decades ago — notably teen comedies “Road Trip,” “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and the “American Pie” series — did something inspired with a familiar type. The alpha frat-bro character is usually a villain, or at least a tool. But this actor lent polo-collar-up dudedom in shark-like search of sex or any other stimulus an absurdist, howling-at-the-moon zest.
He could play hyper (as in “American Pie’s” Stifler) or dirt-dumb (“Goon” and its sequel) with equal aplomb. Yet somehow the industry couldn’t quite figure out what to do with him, resulting in too many misfired comedies and an eventual general sense of “Whatever happened to Seann William Scott?” Sure, he filled Clayne Crawford’s vacancy on TV’s “Lethal Weapon,” and still lends voice to “Ice Age” sequels. But somehow...

Last week, I had the honor of interviewing Seann William Scott, the actor best known for his roles in the American Pie franchise, Role Models, Goon and its sequel, and his most recent film, Bloodline. I was able to view this film ahead of its premiere, and it was a trip. This was a darker film than I had seen Scott in before, and coming from Blumhouse, it wasn’t a big surprise. The movie was directed and co-written by Henry Jacobson, with this being his first feature film. Despite the gratuitous nudity and over-the-top blood and gore, which I’m not particularly a fan of, the story did have twists I did not see coming, and I thought it was fun and interesting to see Scott in a new role that was reminiscent of Dexter and Norman Bates all rolled into one.

Ever since seeing Bloodline at the 2019 Popcorn Frights Film Festival, I've had its infectious, synth-infused soundtrack stuck in my head, as the original music by Trevor Gureckis is like its own character in the film, giving the serial killer story a deadly pulse that hearkens back to some of the most memorable collaborations between John Carpenter and Alan Howarth. With Bloodline—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack coming to digital via Lakeshore Records on September 20th (the same day the film will be released in theaters and on Digital and VOD by Momentum Pictures), we've been provided with an exclusive track from the film's score to share with Daily Dead readers.

Yet another member of the Skarsgard family will be taking on the role of a villain in the Stephen King universe with Alexander Skarsgard playing Randall Flagg, aka The Man In Black in the upcoming CBS All Access series of Stephen King’s “The Stand”. It is said that the upcoming series will consist of ten episodes and will also star James Marsden (Westworld), Amber Heard (Aquaman), Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers), Odessa Young (Assassination Nation) and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why). In “The Stand”, the character of Randall Flagg is a charismatic, demonic leader who is the head of a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas. He is preparing for the final showdown between good and evil, and is determined that his side will win. Flagg’s character was introduced in “The Stand”, but is also a character that is prominent in King’s “Dark Tower” book series as well!

Sean William Scott as a serial killer. As soon as I read that I knew Bloodline was a movie and role that I never knew I wanted to see but now had to. I was very much looking forward to see if it worked out at all like I hoped it would.

Evan has a tendency to kill people and now he has a son to look after and protect. While Lauen is struggling with breast feeding and a very limited amount of sleep,...

Everyone loves a well-known actor trying out something wildly different, flexing their genre muscles with a meaty villain role. Octavia Spencer in Ma, James McAvoy in Split, Blumhouse alone have backed a hefty amount in the past few years, so it’s no surprise that they’re the ones behind the similarly inclined Bloodline, with 00s favourite Seann William Scott front and centre. But while others have found something of a resurgence in their unexpected shift to the dark side, the Stiffmeister himself sadly isn’t quite as lucky.
Part character-study, part quietly stylish slasher, Bloodline unfortunately isn’t anything particularly new or exciting. Scott’s Evan has a decent enough duality to him – high school guidance counsellor and perpetually tired new parent by day, avenging sociopathic serial killer by night – and there’s definitely some pull towards him as a character. The work-life/home-life/murderer-life balance has an innate tension to it for sure,...

Craig Mazin is a workaholic who has not faced one day since 1995 without some kind of deadline. Pegged early on as a Hollywood comedy screenwriter, he weathered two “Scary Movie” and two “Hangover” sequels. So it was something of a surprise when he created riveting true-life drama “Chernobyl,” which became not only HBO’s most successful limited series since “Band of Brothers,” but scored 19 Emmy nominations, beat only by “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Game of Thrones.”
Apart from his own output, Mazin built a reputation as a writer partly via the popular Script Notes podcast. Back in 2011, fellow writer/blogger John August invited his colleague to join him on a new podcast; they have delivered it every Tuesday ever since, free of commercial interruption. Podcast producer August is “the classic Wasp-y not straight straight guy,” said Mazin in an interview at his Pasadena office. “I’m the goofy guy,...

Full admission: the concept of Sean William Scott, an actor best known for raunchy and outrageous comedies, in a horror movie doesn't immediately strike excitement but feature film debut Henry Jacobson looks really promising.
Bloodline stars Scott as Evan, a fiercely devoted family man who, by day, spends his time as a social worker, listening to and providing support to kids with difficult family lives.
After the arrival of his newborn son, Evan's passion for protecting children becomes an obsession and he's soon spending his nights as an avenging angel for the kids in his care.

Seann William Scott (American Pie) stars in a new horror thriller called Bloodline. He plays a character named Evan, a Dexter-like character who goes out and kills people who abuse and harm kids. It’s his way of justice.
It’s explained that Evan “values family above all else, and anyone who gets between him, his wife, and newborn son learns that the hard way. But when it comes to violent tendencies, it's his only release.” It looks like an intense and brutal film and it’s cool to see Scott in a new movie.
Bloodline is the directorial debut of Henry Jacobson, and the cast also includes Mariela Garriga, Dale Dickey, Kevin Carroll, Christie Herring, Leith M. Burke, Nick Boraine, and Dusty Sorg. Looks intensely brutal, as expected, usual Blumhouse thrills. See below.
Bloodline comes from Blumhouse and it will be released on September 20th, 2019.

"He gets what he deserves, right?" Momentum Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Bloodline, which premiered at Fantastic Fest last fall. This Blumhouse production is about a man who takes out and sometimes kills the people who harm their children. Seann William Scott stars as Evan, who values family above all else, and anyone who gets between him, his wife, and newborn son learns that the hard way. But when it comes to violent tendencies, it seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The cast includes Mariela Garriga, Dale Dickey, Kevin Carroll, Christie Herring, Leith M. Burke, Nick Boraine, and Dusty Sorg. Looks intensely brutal, as expected, usual Blumhouse thrills. See below. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Henry Jacobson's Bloodline, direct from Blumhouse's YouTube: In Bloodline, Evan (Seann William Scott) values family above all else, and anyone who gets between him,...

Exclusive: ICM Partners has signed Emma Tammi and Henry Jacobson and their production company Mind Hive, with the move coming ahead of the world premiere of Tammi’s Western horror pic The Wind next week in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival.
Tammi is making her feature directorial debut on The Wind, which is written by Teresa Sutherland. The pic centers on a woman (Caitlin Gerard) who moves to the American frontier with her husband, and an evil presence soon makes itself known, stirring paranoia.
It premieres Monday night in Tiff’s genre sidebar, and ICM Partners and Xzy Films are repping the film on the ground.
Meanwhile, Jacobson, who with Tammi is among the exec producers on The Wind, is prepping to debut his film Bloodline starring Seann William Scott at Fantastic Fest, which kicks off later this month. Jacobson co-wrote the thriller with Avra Fox-Lerner.

Fantastic Fest 2018 is now about a month away, so it's time for the second wave of programming, which includes the North American premiere of Timo Tjahjanto's May the Devil Take You and the U.S. premieres of David Gordon Green's Halloween and Jeremy Saulnier's Hold the Dark. I'm probably most curious, though, about the world premieres in this round, including Bloodline, The Boat, Feral, Girls With Balls, Savage and Starfish. Will they emerge as unexpected discoveries in the midst of genre goodness from better-known filmmakers? Or disappear into the night? I hope for the former, but we shall see. The festival will be held in Austin, Texas, from September 20-27. Visit the official site for more information. Below is a list of the films in...

Netflix movie The King, headlined by Timothée Chalamet and Joel Edgerton, puts a modern spin on Shakespeare.
The King appears to be one of Netflix’s more promising projects. Indeed, the prestige picture brandishes the starring role of the recent Call Me By Your Name Oscar nominee, Timothée Chalamet, along with names like Joel Edgerton, Robert Pattinson and Ben Mendelsohn to boot.
The film adapts Henry V, one of Shakespeare's most famous history-based plays, which follows the unlikely regal rise to greatness of young slacker Prince Hal; a rise that culminates with him leading the English army against the French in the Battle of Agincourt, which took place on Saint Crispin's Day, October 25, 1415, leading to England's greatest victory in the Hundred Years' War.
David Michôd serves as director, having recently helmed Netflix’s Brad Pitt-starring fact-based military drama, War Machine. However, he’s best known for directing the 2010 crime drama,...
