A little over a year ago, Showtime announced that they were ordering a series – then known as Dexter: Origins, now known as Dexter: Original Sin – that would serve as a prequel series to their popular show Dexter, which finished its eight season initial run back in 2013, then recently came back for a new season (called Dexter: New Blood) that appeared to wrap things up for good… We’ve been hearing Dexter: Original Sin casting announcements here and there in recent weeks, and now Deadline reports that the latest addition to the cast is Amanda Brooks, whose previous credits include Super Pumped, The Birch (pictured above), Christmas Everlasting, Castle Rock, Nashville, Outsiders, and Aquarius.
Brooks will be taking on the role of Becca Spencer, Captain Aaron Spencer’s ex-wife who shares custody of their son, Nicky. On this show, she’ll be sharing the screen with Patrick Gibson of Shadow and Bone...

After making The Third Saturday in October Part V, the fifth entry in a non-existent series, what do you do for a follow-up? If you’re writer/director Jay Burleson you make The Third Saturday in October and give your faux franchise a starting point.
After a text crawl telling us what we’re about to see is based on a true story we launch into the story of serial killer Jakkariah “Jack” Harding who we see meeting his fate in the electric chair. Witnessing his execution are Ricky Dean Logan and Vicki Newton both of whom lost loved ones to Harding.
Unfortunately when they go to the cemetery to see him put six feet under they see something much worse.

The holiday season is almost here and Amazon Prime is getting in the mood with its list of December 2021 releases. Sure there are the usual Christmas movies to be found but the real gift this month are two big original titles.
The sixth and final season of beloved sci-fi series The Expanse premieres on Dec. 10. Amazon is doing its usual release strategy of three episodes on the premiere day followed by a weekly schedule so there’s still some time to be spent with the crew of the Rocinante. The other big ticket item is the Desi and Lucy biopic Being the Ricardos on Dec. 21. Sure, Aaron Sorkin seems to be completely disinterested in I Love Lucy and Nicole Kidman bears no passing resemblance to the iconic comedienne whatsoever but uh…it’s a movie!

Hallmark’s famed Christmas movies have been known for revisiting the same stable of stars — which until recently, hasn’t left much room for faces that aren’t white. But this season, the brand has made an effort for diversity. It’s no longer a whitewashed Christmas on Hallmark, though it still has a way to go for a truly inclusive winter wonderland.
Previously, people of color were only relegated to supporting roles such as the sassy best friend or goofy co-worker. Though to be fair, Hallmark did occasionally cast biracial white-passing actresses like Jessica Szohr, Katrina Law, Alexa PenaVega, or new duchess Meghan Markle as the romantic lead. A few years ago, Hallmark even had a partnership with Mariah Carey, which resulted in her appearing in and directing “A Christmas Melody,” about putting on a school’s Christmas pageant.
But after that brief partnership ended, inclusion hadn’t really been prioritized until recently.

Dennis Haysbert is returning to CBS with a co-starring role opposite Sophia Bush in CBS’ drama pilot Surveillance, from Matt Reeves, David C. White, Patricia Riggen and 20th Century Fox TV, which will co-produce with CBS TV Studios.
Written by White, with Riggen set to direct, Surveillance is described as a complex and timely spy thriller centered on the head of communications for the Nsa, Maddy (Bush), a charming operative who finds her loyalties torn between protecting the government’s secrets and her own.
Haysbert will play Barry, the Nsa Deputy Director, a father figure to Maddy and her longtime mentor. In addition to Bush, he joins recently cast Catalina Sandino Moreno, Matthew Modine, Allen Leech and Raphael Acloque.
Reeves executive produces via his 6th & Idaho production company alongside Riggen; White co-executive produces.
At CBS, Haysbert previously starred on another drama produced by 20th TV, The Unit, which ran for four seasons.
