Erica Lipez's eight-part historical drama, "We Were the Lucky Ones," deals with a harrowing subject matter. The year is 1938, and the Polish city of Radom is home to the Kurc family, who gather together to celebrate Passover. These are turbulent times, as vicious anti-semitism is on the rise in Poland, and the Kurcs initially seem insulated from everyday racial politics due to their social stature. As the Kurcs gather around the family table, we are introduced to each member, including siblings Halina (Joey King) and Addy (Logan Lerman), who talk about their hopes and dreams paving the path for the future. The older Mila (Hadas Yaron) is excited about giving birth to her first child, while Jakob (Amit Rahav) gushes about his passion for photography. In a heartbreaking turn of events, this family gathering turns out to be the last one as the Kurcs get separated with the advent of war.

All good things have to come to an end. We don’t like it, but at least some shows are given the chance to wrap up on their own terms. This was the case for the five TV shows on this list for 2024.
We’re only looking at those that were either final seasoned or wrapped when they wanted to. They had the time to tell their full story—or at least, full enough to be able to bring fans closure. We’re not including those that were abruptly and unfairly canceled.
These shows not only brought an ending that worked for their stories, but they brought consistently good writing and fun storytelling. These are the five shows that we would have loved to see more of that we said goodbye to in 2024.

The best Joey King movies and TV shows prove that the young actress has a lot more going for her than just the string of releases she enjoyed after her breakout in The Kissing Booth. King got her start as a child actor, with her first roles coming with she was only seven. As a youngster, she appeared in some major blockbusters, including Battle: Los Angeles, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Conjuring. That experience prepared her for what has become a leading lady role as she reaches her 20s.
That all started in The Kissing Booth, which saw King star in all three movies in the franchise from 2018 to 2021. The success of those films on Netflix opened the door for King to earn more roles both in movies and on streaming services. She took on the lead role of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard in The Act, a fun...

“Bob Marley: One Love”
Bob Marley’s fans have long been brought together by joyous songs, but his revolutionary ideas are sometimes overlooked because the music is so uplifting. His son Ziggy Marley says, “In order to better understand Bob’s message you have to look past the legend and see the human being, his struggles, emotionally, spiritually and physically.” The film “Bob Marley: One Love” does just that. It’s been many, many years in the making, but a movie adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s “Uglies” is finally here.
Directed by McG, the story centers on a society where, at 16 years old, every single person goes through a surgery to make them perfect. Perfect appearance, perfect personality features, you name it. Until they turn 16, they’re known as uglies and live in a compound away from the city.
The story centers on Tally Youngblood, a young girl who discovers that the operation may not be as perfect as it seems. But if you’re reading this article, you’re probably trying to place some of those perfect faces before tuning into the movie.
Well, we’ve got you! You can check out the cast list below.

Awards season will be in full swing at the Emmys on Sunday, and with it comes a new wave of heightened speculation about who got suddenly skinny for the red carpet — and whether they used Ozempic to get there.
The pressure on celebrities about their looks is nothing new and neither are medical methods to improve them. But the popularity of Ozempic and the rapid, dramatic results it creates has fueled a debate over a kind of reverse body-shaming — did she or didn’t she Ozempic? — and some are pushing back.
“It’s the last acceptable bias,” Oprah Winfrey, a veteran of the weight-loss wars, said during her recent TV special on the topic. She parted ways with her longtime sponsor Weight Watchers after revealing she was using an unspecified weight-loss drug. “Let’s stop the shaming and blaming. There’s no place for it.”

A brave young woman battles a repressive society in a dystopian future, while honing her archery skills in the process. No, it’s not The Hunger Games, but rather Netflix’s latest cinematic sci-fi YA effort, based on the 2005 bestselling novel by Scott Westerfield that spawned several sequels. Joey King stars in this screen adaptation helmed by McG, and while Uglies won’t erase anyone’s memories of the previously mentioned cinematic franchise, it proves a reasonably engrossing thriller that should please younger audiences.

Episode 2 of Pachinko is quite the heartbreaking one. The second season is already quite bleak to begin with, but as a show set in two timelines, there’s some sort of reassurance that things will be alright, or at least somewhat alright. But episode 2 is very sad, and it’ll make you want to hug your family for sure. Additionally, I have to admit little Mozasu makes it easy to digest. The second episode marks the onset of the war; Japan already knew something big was coming, but now they’re in panic mode, which leaves the Koreans completely vulnerable. On the other hand, in the 80s, Solomon makes a massive decision, but is it worth the mess? We’ll have to find out, so let’s dive straight into episode 2 of season 2 of Pachinko.
Spoiler Alert
Who Sent Isak To Prison?
Episode 2 begins with the gream scene of war.

Joey King is finally getting her “Divergent” and “Hunger Games”-esque YA-novel adaptation.
The “Kissing Booth” trilogy’s alum and “The Act” breakout star leads “Uglies,” set in a world where teens are tracked down and forced to undergo plastic surgery to be their most “perfect” selves. Think of it like a reverse version of buzzy Cannes title “The Substance,” just taking place in a dystopian near-future out in the forest. Of course, the feature also includes the staple YA love triangle and more genre tropes.
“Outer Banks” actor Chase Stokes, Keith Powers, Laverne Cox, Brianne Tju, and Jan Luis Castellanos co-star.
McG directs the Netflix feature that is written Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson, based on the novel by Scott Westerfeld.
King previously told IndieWire that each project across her decades-spanning career, from “Moneyball” to “The Dark Knight Rises” to Hulu’s Holocaust miniseries “We Were the Lucky Ones...

With several Emmys stalwarts not eligible for nominations this year, it was expected that there would be a number of surprises among the 2024 Emmy nominations.
But while some series and stars broke through, other anticipated nominees from new shows didn’t fare as well as they’d hoped.
Despite a big awards push, Showtime’s The Curse failed to receive any Emmy nominations, with star Emma Stone among the awards hopefuls not nominated. Similarly, the Nicole Kidman-fronted Expats for Amazon’s Prime Video was also left out of this year’s nominations. And HBO’s The Regime only earned one nod, for its costumes, leaving stars Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant snubbed.
Other acclaimed actors who failed to receive nominations include Kelsey Grammer, not nominated for his Frasier revival after the original series was a regular Emmy winner; Abbott Elementary supporting players William Stanford Davis and Chris Perfetti; The Gilded Age...
