I like the narrator's soothing voice and the fact that the show is far less annoying than a lot of other shows for kids out there.
The Christmas special is more moralistic than anything, which is fine. I don't care either way whether the squirrel has two dads or not, as long as it's handled well. Whatever your feelings on same-sex marriage are, it exists and we need to respect that. It was pretty subtle. No one turned to the screen and said, "that's right kids, Sally has two dads and that's totally groovy" or anything like that. I don't even think my kids noticed or cared, so I just left it at that. What we ended up talking about was the fact that Grumpy Toad was being selfish and that he learned that Christmas is about giving and not getting.

Ignore the intolerance in the other review. These picture books have been a part of education for years now, and this special is a lot of fun. The cast and special guest-voices are wonderful, the show is a nice change from the same-ol-same-ol shows that have been on for years. I have always loved those Rankin&Bass specials but listening to them in this day and age, I know that I will have to do some re-teaching when my son watches them as I horrifyingly hear Santa condemn differences and promote subjugation and assimilation... sigh...

We love Pete the Cat. Everything about this Christmas special was perfect including the diverse families shown. Yes Sally the squirrel has two dads! I was very happy when I noticed. It's very sad and disgusting such ignorant and bigoted people are raising children. And to the idiot who left a bad review claiming Pete also has two dads, he doesn't his mom just has a slightly manly voice.

Thank you to the creators of this show for including a family with same sex parents. It's healthy for all children to know that there are ALL types of families and that all families are beautiful.
It absolutely saddens and frightens me that the reviewer above could make such a comment in December 2018. Time to evolve.
Beside all of that, it is a genuinely great show with good writing and my 4 year old loves it.

As many other reviewers have said, this was a great fresh Christmas show that my kids loved. That's what matters to me. They loved it. It was socially educational with a focus on generosity instead of the selfishness that runs rampant around Christmas. The fact is, diverse families like Sally's exist in this world. You don't have to like it but I like that my children can see it and not assign weirdness or fear to it that may result in them developing hate. I'm a "love is love" guy and my children seeing this will allow them to love whoever they want to love without bias. These relationships do exist in the world and hiding it from your kids only makes them ignorant.

I wish I had read reviews before letting my kids watch. There's no need to feature a squirrel with two dads. There are so many other Christmas specials we watch every year, and we'll just stick to those from now on.
