[first lines]
Jesse: You know he's not gonna be happy.
Mike Ehrmantraut: No. I suspect he won't. Only you can decide what's best for you, Jesse. Not him, not me.
Jesse: I'm out.
[pause]
Jesse: So what are you gonna do with all that money?
Mike Ehrmantraut: Same thing I do with all the other money. How 'bout you, teenage retiree? You'll be livin' the dream.
Jesse: Not sure I should stick around town.
Mike Ehrmantraut: That's a start.
Jesse: Nothin' really keepin' me here. Where would you go? If you were me?
Mike Ehrmantraut: Doesn't matter, I'm not you.
Jesse: Seriously, come on. If you were my age? Just play along. Make some conversation.
Mike Ehrmantraut: Alaska.
Jesse: Yeah?
Mike Ehrmantraut: Yeah. If I were your age, startin' fresh... Alaska. It's the last frontier. Up there, you can be anything you want.
Jesse: Alaska. Start over. Start fresh.
Mike Ehrmantraut: One could.
Jesse: Put things right.
Mike Ehrmantraut: No. Sorry, kid, that's the one thing you can never do.

The style does help this, and it uses the long pauses and space well. Paul adds a lot too, turning in a great performance throughout and producing elements not in the dialogue. Even with this though it is not an essential film, and it is not one that can be watched without having watched the series - as it does rely on the viewer being already bought into it as a world, and already having affection for the characters. If you have this though, it is easy to overlook its weaker elements, and simply enjoy it for the confidence it has in itself, and its genuine interest in its characters.
