I recently watched "The Inheritance," a film that promised an intriguing blend of mystery and horror but unfortunately fell short on delivering a captivating experience. With high expectations, I settled in for what I hoped would be a night of suspense and frights. Instead, I found myself struggling to stay awake.
The movie's plot revolves around the concept of an inheritance that comes with unexpected and eerie consequences. While the premise had potential, the execution was disappointingly lackluster. The storyline moved at a snail's pace, making it difficult to stay engaged. The tension that should have kept me on the edge of my seat was almost nonexistent, leading to a monotonous viewing experience.
One of the most significant letdowns was the film's inability to generate genuine scares. Horror movies thrive on their ability to evoke fear and suspense, but "The Inheritance" failed to do so. In fact, I found myself more startled by my own reflection in the mirror than by anything that transpired on screen. The jump scares were predictable, and the overall atmosphere lacked the haunting quality that makes a horror movie memorable.
The characters were another weak point. They felt underdeveloped and unrelatable, making it challenging to invest in their fates. The protagonist's journey, which should have been compelling, was marred by uninspired performances and clichéd dialogue. The lack of depth in character development left me indifferent to their plight.
On a positive note, the cinematography and setting were commendable. The film featured some visually striking moments, and the eerie mansion provided a fitting backdrop for the story. However, even the impressive visuals couldn't compensate for the movie's overall shortcomings.
In conclusion, "The Inheritance" was a disappointing watch. Despite its promising premise and visually appealing scenes, it lacked the necessary elements to keep me engaged and entertained. If you're looking for a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat and deliver genuine scares, this one isn't it. Save your time and opt for something more thrilling - perhaps even a good, long look in the mirror.

Just finished watching this movie an hour ago and it was very mediocre.
Positives for The Inheritance (2024): The performances from the cast are good for the most part. I liked the setting of this mansion for the movie. And finally, I liked how the movie's ending as I was very satisfied with it.
Negatives for The Inheritance (2024): This movie is very predictable from the start. As soon as the father of the this family tells them why he wanted them there, it's so blatantly obvious how the movie is going to play out and by the end of it, I was right about the movie. And finally, the characters are very bland and one note.
Overall, The Inheritance (2024) is a very mediocre haunted house movie that people will probably forget about after they watch it.

Critics are mixed as you can see here on IMDB, I would recommend this for a Halloween party or something like that, what you need to know if you are in that age group and not a horror fan pre se, is that there's a big scary mansion, plenty rooms and halls and a flock of siblings trapped and haunted by something mysterious caused by their old rich dad. You can stop reading now! Pretty cool movie, somewhat scary,
Clearly this is not for experienced horror fans as they will roll their eyes with all the clichés, this move is complete with ghostly foot prints, pentagrams, secret doors, a locked vault, mysterious statues that move, paintings.. that move.. and so on and so forth, the script is nothing new and the acting is okay. Not that many memorable scenes sadly, but executed well enough if you consider it for a younger audience. Its like poe for dummies.

I saw the writer hype this up on twitter and actually paid money to watch it. If I could ask for a refund I would. Predictable from the moment the premise is revealed. The "actor" that played Drew was awful and took away any sense these people cared about each other. Writing? Horrible. Story? None. Cinematography? High School iPhone realness. This has been done much better by better artists and actors and you can watch it on Netflix. It's called "Fall of the House of Usher". I try to support independent horror. But I can't support this. Shameless rip off of the source material by hacks who can't create a shred of tension or horror.
Some writing is so bland, predictable and boring that people jokingly say they wouldn't be surprised if the script had been written by an AI. In the case of this movie, I would be surprised if this movie _wasn't_ written by ChatGPT.
This is the most bland and predictable plot I've seen in years. It's a better investment of your time to stare at a beige wall for about 80 minutes. It's like you've seen this plot 100 times before, but every similar movie you dig out of the fringes of your memory is more interesting than this one.
Every plot development can be seen coming from a mile away and each character acts like an idiot to move the plot forward.
With a little "genre savvyness" you can guess exactly, around the 12-minute mark, what's going on and how the movie will end. The dialogues are stilted and feel like someone just copied and pasted them from the "Big book of dialogues you've heard 20 times before".
The actors are also terrible, but then again, they had nothing to work with here. Netflix supposedly canned this movie in 2023 even though it was already done, which gives you a good idea of how bad this movie is.

Billionaire Charles Abernathy (Bob Gunton) on the eve of his 75th birthday invites all his children including media moguls C. J. (David Walton) and twin sister Madeline (Rachel Nichols), social media influencer Kami (Peyton List), and the head of Abernathy's charitable arm Drew (Austin Stowell) who brings along his wife Hannah (Briana Middleton). Charles tells his children that as a result of a business deal his life is in danger and having sent the staff and security home entrusts his children and Hannah with his protection. In order to ensure their cooperation, Charles has amended his will to state that should anything happen to him during the night the inheritance will be forfeit and given to the Abernathy Foundation. As the group is divided on whether Charles is sincere or mad in his concerns, they find themselves faced with escalating terror over the course of the night.
The Inheritance is a 2024 horror film directed by Alejandro Brugues. The film is written by screenwriters Chris LaMont and Joe Russo who initially wrote the film under the title " The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy" which was featured on the 2018 Blood List of best unproduced horror screenplays. Initially acquired by Netflix as an original for their streaming service, the film found itself swept up in the then recent trend of media companies scrapping completed films for tax write-offs and corporate restructuring shenanigans (See Warner Bros. And Batgirl, Scoob 2, and Coyote vs. Acme) and despite being ready for release it was announced Netflix no longer had any intention or releasing it, but unlike WB they did allow the producers to shop distribution elsewhere. Now coming out on a day and date release for VOD and a limited theatrical run, not only am I pleased the film is finally available but it's also pretty fun as well.
It's pretty clear that due to the delays the film has amassed behind the scenes, it will inevitably be compared to other genre fare that have tackled the subject of wealthy toxic family dynasties (a point the creators themselves have acknowledged). If you're familiar with the likes of Ready or Not, Knives Out, or the miniseries Fall of the House of Usher you'll note some similarities in the setup, but fortunately the movie finds a unique enough way to keep itself from feeling like it's retreading ground. Rather than the satire heavy approach of knives out or the gore and grandiosity of Ready or Not or Fall of the House of Usher, The Inheritance goes in for a more quick and to the point B-movie approach taking influence from the likes of William Castles films. At a brisk 84 minutes (including credits), The Inheritance is an exercise in efficiency as it sets up the characters quickly and gets to the actual meat of the horror but it never feels rushed and still feels like it takes adequate time in building up and paying off the scares. Despite most of the Abernathys having abrasive tendencies, the writers do a lot to humanize them and prevent them from becoming grating and you do find yourself invested in whether they'll live or not. The production also crafts some memorable scare sequences (particularly one involving an antiquities room and another involving a painting) both of which are expertly setup with taut direction by Brugues.
The Inheritance is a fun little B-movie take on toxic wealthy families that has the playfulness of an old William Castle film with some solid modern day craft, it's just a shame the movie wound up in release limbo due to the callous reason of fudging some numbers on a corporate balance sheet. Definitely take the time to seek this one out.

I liked the premise of The Inheritance and therefore hoped for an original flick with some decent scares or at least an interesting story. Pretty much immediately we are thrown into the basic setup of the movie. The four estranged children of Billionaire Charles Abernathy have to make sure that he will survive the night because apparently someone or something is coming to kill him. It sounds a little stupid but also intriguing at the same time. After the premise was set, we get to know each of the characters. They are stereotypical, annoying and even a little bit insufferable. Obviously as the narrative progresses the first bodies are found and the movie almost lost all my interest. Like I said the characters are dull and the actors were probably more focused on their paycheck then the actual role. However towards the end, the movie gets a little bit more interesting. Once more is revealed to the audience and you get a look at some pretty decent looking effects and the actual threat, the movie goes from poorly executed and boring to a rather interesting setup. But sadly this moment comes way too late and shortly after the end credits roll. If the movie would have been more like the last 15 minutes it certainly could have had the potential to entertain more, but sadly that is not the case and the audience has to endure the first 60 minutes. The movie basically had the potential and I feel like in a few years this could deserve a remake with a bigger budget and more experience behind and in front of the camera. [5,2/10]
...but not great. It's a good old-fashioned spook show in a great big house where everyone is locked in. It's certainly been done before - and better - but not recently. The score was particularly good, and Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, B. C. is suitably creepy. Another reviewer already mentioned several of the actors are rather wooden and in need of an acting coach, but that's easy to overlook - for heaven's sake, they're Canadian - give them a break! I think what I like about it is it's a pretty straightforward haunting, but it doesn't tell you *what's* doing the haunting until close to the end. Overall I give it a 6 for atmosphere and a decent if unoriginal storyline. I wouldn't see it again, but it was worth the $6 I paid Amazon for the rental.

Really decent horror movie especially for a budget of $15 million! I have seen much bigger budget horror movies that were nowhere near as good especially from production companies like Blumhouse, Lionsgate etc.
The only thing that marks the movie down a bit for me is around 50% of the actors were a bit wooden and were more suited to TV shows or TV movies. They weren't terrible though, again I have seen actors in much bigger budget movies that were a lot worse. The best ones were the Dad, youngest daughter and the daughter in law. The twins and other son were a bit amateurish at times.
The effects in this are great and the creepyness is done well, catching glimpses of the entity in dark shadow areas in rooms, in reflections in mirrors etc was a good use of horror, so I recommend paying attention to a lot of the surroundings when watching this.
The story is entertaining and the twist at the end is pretty good too. At the end of the day if you enjoy entertaining modern horrors that although aren't terrifyingly scary still keep you interested for an hour and half then you should enjoy this.
I would love to see what this director could do with a much bigger budget too and hopefully we will see more from them in the future as it sounds like this low budget horror did well at the box office!

I was hesitant to rent this movie based on so many bad reviews here. However, I was quite surprised how entertaining this movie was. I agree with other reviewer here that it was better than most high budget Hollywood horror movies out there. The story is not groundbreaking, but it was well executed. The movie does not rely on cheap jump scares and leans more toward more of a atmospheric tension. Almost all the cast are adults, which is not a norm in the horror genre filled with teenage victims. There are no gore scenes in this movie, so if you are into gore, deranged killers, this movie is not for you. This is like an old-fashioned mansion horror movie modernized.

The best thing about this movie is the concept. While The setting and acting is ok, The Inheritance is ultimately a mediocre, piece of garbage. It's not scary, it's predictable, repetitive, and the supposed "social commentary" is as ham fisted as it gets. It also steals ideas from other, better horror movies, and horribly botches them. The fact that the writer has to beg people on his twitter to watch it tells all I need to know about its quality.
It's become clear to me that the writer, Joe Russo is a talentless hack who has lucked into his place in Hollywood. For all the films he's worked on, he's done nothing to merit his spot. The Inheritance might be his worst work yet!!
Don't watch this movie. There is other, better, way more creative horror movies out there!!

Please only watch this if you're expecting a comedy and you really love the script writing and acting in Pornos. Because otherwise you are going to be bitterly disappointed.
It's not a bad cast so I don't know whether it's just the horrific cheesey, boring and clichéd script or bad direction (both I think) but the actors are for the most part dreadful. And I don't say this lightly.
It's essentially Fall of the House of Usher but a really rubbish version of it. Mike Flanagan did it so much better and will an outstanding cast. I think any of these actors may have shined it that version but they had no hope with this script.

There's been a few movies of this type in the past few years, and very few actually turn out to be enjoyable. If you have seen The House of Usher by Mike Flanagan, it's the same exact plot in this movie. Except in this movie, the acting and pace is really atrocious. It starts out okay-ish, then rapidly degrades.
The acting is also really poor, especially from David Walton, he doesn't deliver any emotion, most of the time he just has a blank face even though something horrible just happened.
Certain scenes buildup to nothing, as I mentioned, the pace is really off, the plot can be guessed pretty early, even if you are not familiar with The House of Usher, and that ruins the mood. But, again, the biggest issue with this is the acting and script. If they would have a bit more effort into it, I'm certain it would have been a far better movie.

The Inheritance is a good horror movie for what it is, it gives you good production values, a spectacular house, nice cast that performs well, a story interesting enough to keep you hooked with a few twists, specially at the end, solid pace for the most part, good scares and some gruesome deaths.
There's nothing here that will blow your mind, and for the most part it plays it safe, maybe too safe, but on the good side it doesn't do anything particularly wrong.
All in all, solid horror flick that you will forget about in barely a few days, but quite entertaining for what it lasts that's worth a watch to get your horror movie fix.

Nothing more than another typical predictable horror movie .. The characters are boring , the plot is horrible and there is nothing interesting about this film . At some point it became so predictable that i even knew all the cliche lines that were about to come . Seriously im not that picky or serious about the movies I'm watching and I don't always have the highest expectations , but some films like this one make me feel like they literally put zero effort making this film. And I don't like sounding like a d***k because I know most of the time it isn't the actors that are ruining a film but the poor plot and scriptwriting. Just skip this one you won't miss.

This is not a thriller, since it's very predicatble, not a horror movie, since there are just drops of blood, and some makeup.
The story is trite, the scenario is stupid, and the acting is meh at best.
There is also the political angle of antiracism in extreme: WHITE=BAD, BLACK=GOOD.
The only black character is smarter, kinder, and braver than all the whites; she even reads Latin!
I don't know in how many ways I can say this movie is garbage to fill in the required 600 chars, so I'll just say that in the past coupld of years content became c-r-a-p. It's basically a way for channels to keep you streaming, and the Internet providers to make you waste bandwidth, without anything of actual value to learn from it.

ASU! ASU! - Chris Lamont and Joe Russo made an awesome film. This film is a gripping and suspenseful thrill ride, set against the eerie backdrop of a sprawling mansion. The plot centers on a wealthy patriarch who offers his inheritance to his family, but only if they can keep him alive from a mysterious assailant. This unique premise keeps the tension high and the stakes even higher.
The story masterfully blends suspense and intrigue, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. The mansion itself adds to the atmosphere, its dark corridors and hidden secrets becoming almost a character in its own right. The family dynamics are well-explored, revealing deep-seated grudges and alliances that shift as the danger intensifies.
The cast delivers strong performances, making the characters' desperation and fear palpable. The writing is sharp, and the pacing is perfect, building suspense with every scene. The film's twists and turns are genuinely surprising, keeping you guessing until the very end.
Overall, this movie is a must-watch for fans of suspense and mystery. It's a clever, well-executed thriller that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Ah, here we are again. Another eccentric old billionaire with a deceased wife whose children run the gamut from ruthless corporate overlords, to spoiled influencer, to the one with a heart of gold. And of course, the children don't get along. Knives Out and The Legacy Murders weren't enough apparently, we had to get another one.
The Inheritance suffers from a messy, vague plot and subpar acting. The lead character, Drew, is one of the most wooden actors I've ever seen. None of the characters in the movie seem to grasp the gravity of their situation or have the appropriate reactions to the horrific events that occur. And I felt like the writers didn't decide on the cause of the horrific events till halfway through the movie. This film is only an hour and a half long, but feels so much longer!

So of course they hyped up the trailer right..........its a movie about a demonic spirit coming to collect ova a debt. Its not a bore as some of the reviews states HOWEVER it "definitely" not a classic eitha on anyone's list that's remotely a fan of DECENT horror. Is it worth a watch? Yes it is, as i believe give anything and all things a chance. Were the special effects disappointing? Lets place blame on budget. Was the acting good? Not everyone seemed experienced, was it a decent script? It was fair, the plot twist was good though@ the ending. I WON'T SPOIL IT for those who give the film a chance @ watching it. I am into horror and i can honestly say this didn't make it to any of my list other than being classified as horror to give it a watch..........nothing beyond that.

"The Inheritance" is another entry into the overpopulated subgenre of family-centric horror films trapped in a house. While the premise offers potential for suspense and terror, the film unfortunately falls short in delivering a truly chilling experience.
Peyton List is a standout, bringing a much-needed intensity to her role. Her performance is a bright spot in a film otherwise plagued by stiff and unconvincing acting. The rest of the cast seems to be going through the motions, lacking the emotional depth required to truly engage the audience.
The film's score is an intrusive element, often overpowering the scenes and distracting from the narrative. The music choices feel generic and fail to contribute to the atmosphere.
Ultimately, "The Inheritance" is a missed opportunity. While it attempts to create a sense of dread and isolation, it relies too heavily on familiar tropes and lacks the originality to stand out in a crowded horror landscape.
If you're a fan of the genre, you've likely seen this story before.
