Reba McEntire played some mind games on Tuesday’s (October 22) episode of The Voice as she made a last-minute decision to steal a contestant from fellow coach Gwen Stefani. The latest round of Battles saw Team Gwen’s Frankie Torres and Gabrielle Zabosky performing a duet of Inxs’s “Never Tear Us Apart,” which received high praise from coaches and viewers alike. However, Stefani could only pick one act to move on in the competition and chose to take Zabosky. As per the rules, the other coaches had the option to hit their Steal button and add the eliminated act to their team. For a moment, it looked like nobody was willing to press their button and Torres thanked the coaches for the experience and said her goodbyes. Then, McEntire surprised everyone by slamming her button and stealing Torres for her team. Explaining her decision, the Queen of Country confessed...

Tonight on “The Voice,” the Battles continued with coaches Michael Buble, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani pitting two of their 14 acts against each other in head-to-head match-ups. In this round of the competition, only one of the battling artists advances as a member of their team while the other is eliminated… unless another coach uses a steal to save them and bring the artist over to their team. Michael and Gwen both used their first of two steal options during “The Battles Premiere” on October 21.

For the centerpiece showing of “The Battles Part 2” evening, Michael paired his two “character voices” on the Louis Armstrong classic “What a Wonderful World.” When introducing the song to Edward Preble and Mark Shiiba, Michael referred to Louis as “the most important artist in the history of American music” because he “changed music forever” when he “invented something that has never been heard before.

If only we’d known that it was foreshadowing! After The Voice coaches Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, “Uncle Snoop” Dogg and Michael Bublé performed the Eagles’ “Heartache Tonight” at the top of Tuesday’s episode, they proceeded to give us exactly that, holding back their Battle-rounds Steals when we — or was it just me? — really, really, really wanted them to use one.
