Mexican horror movies have always been about it seems but there’s never been enough of them in the mainstream to make them popular enough that fans would call it a sub-genre of any kind. Issa Lopez has perhaps changed this in recent years, starting with the excellent Tigers Are Not Afraid. Parvulos is hoping to continue the high quality of that Mexican horror movie.
Unfortunately, or maybe not because it’s a good thing, you don’t want to know too much about Parvulos before watching it. But what I will say is that it involves two brothers living in a cabin in the woods, in some kind of post-apocalyptic world. We soon discover that they are hiding...

Released last fall, Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man had nothing to do with the Don’t Breathe films, despite starring Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in both Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2. But that didn’t stop the movie’s Russian distributor from marketing it as a prequel to those films! During an interview with Jb Hi-Fi, McKee laughed about the fact that his movie is part of the Don’t Breathe franchise, as far as Russia is concerned.
McKee said, “In Russia, they released it as Don’t Breathe: The Beginning. Kind of like the Italians used to do back in the day, with movies like Zombi 2.“
Sure enough, if you search the title Don’t Breathe: The Beginning, you’ll find confirmation that Old Man is a Don’t Breathe prequel in Russia.

We are back for a brand new Let’s Scare Bryan to Death, where we’re going to Massachusetts by way of Italy with Fabrizio Laurenti’s 1988 Witchery. Our selection this month comes from director/screenwriter Michael Varrati, whose work includes some amazing short films, a segment in the horror holiday anthology Deathcember, and multiple episodes of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula. Varrati brings a sharp, darkly comical perspective to his work and his love of horror shines through in his work.
Varrati’s pick this month was actually released in In Italy as La Casa 4 and is part of a disjointed series that actually starts with the first two The Evil Dead movies, renamed La Casa and La Casa 2 for Italian audiences. Witchery forgoes the Evil Dead cabin for a big, old house on an island that can only be accessed by boat and is said to be haunted by a witch.

Forrest Gump is Andrew Scott Bell’s origin story, in a manner of speaking. When his parents bought the two-disc soundtrack, packed with cuts from Bob Dylan and Creedence Clearwater Revival, he gravitated most to the final track, “Forrest Gump Suite,” by composer Alan Silvestri, who is also known for What Lies Beneath, Castaway, and Avengers: Infinity War, among countless other works.
“I remember hearing the track and lightning sparks going off in my brain,” he tells Bloody Disgusting. So, he listened to it over and over again until he learned how to play it on piano. “I’ll never forget how to play it,” he adds.
From upstate New York, Bell grew up in a very religious home. Being a “weird queer kid,” he found himself taking dance, ballet, and piano lessons. “When I was very young, I landed on art and drawing, and I was really into that.

Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in Don’t Breathe (watch it Here) and its sequel – stars in genre filmmaker Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man, and a couple weeks ago we learned that Rlje Films has picked up the Old Man distribution rights and plans to give the film a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on October 14th. With the release date just a month away, a trailer for Old Man has now arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Scripted by Joel Veach, who also wrote the story as a play that was workshopped at the Actor’s Studio in New York, Old Man follows
a lost hiker who stumbles upon the cabin of an erratic and reclusive Old Man. What starts off as cordial conversation soon turns dangerous as it becomes clear that one or both of them might be hiding a terrifying secret.

Almost two years have gone by since we first heard that Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in Don’t Breathe (watch it Here) and its sequel – would be starring in genre filmmaker Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man, not to be confused with the Jeff Bridges TV series The Old Man. Undoubtedly, Ama Lea is one of the hardest-working figures in the L.A. horror scene. She’s a director, photographer, launched her own lingerie line a few years ago through her company Poltergeists and Paramours, and she somehow found the time to make thousands of face masks during the pandemic. And that barely even scratches the surface when it comes to Ama’s boundless talents. But if you’re on the lookout for some great horror-inspired gifts this holiday season, I highly recommend checking out Ama’s online shop at: https://www.poltergeistsandparamours.com/ to check out her designs.
