When it comes to teen shows, Never Have I Ever offered something that few other shows have managed. It brought a mixture of coming-of-age drama and the combination of cultures to our screens.
After four seasons, the series came to an end. It had the chance to wrap up the story, and arguably, coming to an end when it did made senes. High school shows don’t work that well when the characters go off to college.
However, the ending means that there is a void. What shows can we watch that will fill that void? Here are seven shows that are a must if you love Never Have I Ever.

Let’s start with a TV-ma series. This is not for the tween and teens in the house, but it does offer a grounded and real look at high school, sexual identities, and even the combination of culture.

After her performance in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, it's clear Sophia Lillis should be getting so much more work – and that a sequel needs to happen. Since her breakout in It: Chapter One, Sophia Lillis' movie and TV roles have been steady and diverse, but none have been as much fun as Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' shapeshifting druid, Doric. The D&d movie just confirms what those who have been paying attention have known all along: Sophia Lillis should be a bigger star.
Lillis was the best part of the It movies, a standout in the aforementioned Honor Among Thieves, mesmerizing in the indie folk horror Gretel & Hansel, and most recently appeared in the ever-whimsical Wes Anderson's Asteroid City. Her TV projects have ranged from the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's dramatic thriller Sharp Objects to the coming-of-age fantasy comedy I Am Not Okay With This.

Supacell delivered a fresh superhero story that immediately grabbed attention with a thrilling concept and spectacularly executed episodes in the first season. Netflix has tried several times to get into the superhero genre of TV shows. While they initially found great success with Marvel's Daredevil and a handful of related shows that didn't perform as well, Marvel eventually reclaimed their IP and left Netflix scrambling for a replacement. Again, the streaming giant found success with The Umbrella Academy, a series based on comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, but with that show now concluded, they are again searching for another super show.
Along the way, Netflix has commissioned a number of smaller graphic novel adaptations, including Jupiter's Legacy, I Am Not Okay With This, and Dead Boy Detectives, but all of these shows were canceled after just one season due to not hitting the goals Netflix hoped for. However,...

Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan join forces to help a young kung-fu prodigy in Karate Kid: Legends. Take a look at the first trailer for the new sequel.
The Karate Kid franchise, it seems, has never been more popular. Five films of varying quality, including 1994’s The Next Karate Kid starring Hilary Swank and the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, eventually led to smash hit Netflix sequel series Cobra Kai, which is currently in the middle of its sixth and final series. The third batch of Cobra Kai episodes will be released early in 2025, but it won’t be the only karate-related piece of entertainment heading our way next year.
Until now, it has been unclear how Karate Kid: Legends will fit into the franchise’s canon. Sony Pictures have today released the very first trailer for the sequel film and it comes with a synopsis that seems...

Sony has released the official trailer for “Karate Kid: Legends,” the next chapter in the martial arts franchise that’s coming to theaters on May 30.
“Karate Kid: Legends” brings together star Ralph Macchio, who began playing Daniel Larusso back in the original 1984 “Karate Kid” movie, and Jackie Chan, who played Mr. Han in the 2010 “Karate Kid” remake. “American Born Chinese” star Ben Wang plays a new student named Li Fong, who becomes the latest protege to Daniel and Mr. Han.
Wang was found after Chan and Macchio announced a worldwide search that saw thousands of young actors from around the world audition for the role. Wang was chosen in part for his variety of martial arts skills, including karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, kempo and taekwondo.

"Cobra Kai" has had a good run, but season 6 finally brings it to the finish line. "Cobra Kai's" final season is split into three parts, with two of them already available on Netflix and the final one premiering on February 13, 2025. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (via People), "Cobra Kai" co-showrunner Josh Heald confirmed that the show ending at this exact stage is completely intentional, seeing as it had a clear arc from the beginning -- at least for the major characters.
"We did always know how the show was going to end to a degree. For the bigger characters, we did know how it was going to end. We never could have predicted just how many characters we would acquire along the way who deserve their own bombastic endings as well."
Season 6, it appears, is simply the point in the series where the plot allows showrunners Heald, Jon Hurwitz,...

Teen drama mixed with dystopian storytelling often make for captivating television, and Netflix’s The Society was no exception. The show introduced viewers to a group of teenagers from West Ham, Connecticut, who return from a school trip only to find themselves in a mysterious alternate version of their hometown. Their parents and other adults are missing, leaving the teens to fend for themselves.

Netflix has a long, storied history of canceling shows early on in their runs. The winner of the streaming wars may spend billions of dollars on original movies and TV shows, but letting any of those shows live beyond a few seasons is a rarity. 2019's young adult series "The Society" was one of those shows that was a one-and-done, with the series lasting just a single season. But that wasn't the original plan. So, why was this popular series canceled after only one season?
For those who may not be familiar, "The Society" follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to an exact replica of their wealthy New England town, only with no trace of their parents to be found. The series hailed from Chris Keyser and Marc Webb with a promising young cast led by then-up-and-comer Kathryn Newton.
Originally, Netflix had renewed "The Society" for a second season.

Fans hope Blake Lively's next movie after It Ends With Us will break her current "Rotten" streak on Rotten Tomatoes. Lively's latest performance in It Ends With Us is considered one of her best, but received mixed reviews from critics. Anticipation is high for the sequel to A Simple Favor, hoping to match the original's critical acclaim and avoid disappointment.
It'd be a shame if Blake Lively's next movie after It Ends With Us fails to match the level of her critically acclaimed 2018 thriller. Lively has starred in dozens of films and television shows including Accepted (2006), Green Lantern (2011), and Savages (2012) after making her film debut in 2005's The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Lively rose to prominence from her roles as Krista in Ben Affleck's critically acclaimed heist movie The Town and Serena in Gossip Girl (2007-2012).

Netflix should revisit a show that the company prematurely ended in 2020 once Stranger Things officially ends with its season 5 release. I Am Not Okay With This would appropriately replace Stranger Things because both blend supernatural story lines with teenage struggles to offer a unique approach to the sci-fi genre. With Covid-19 challenges largely in the past and the end of Stranger Things on the horizon, Netflix now has the perfect opportunity to give I Am Not Okay With This a true chance at mainstream success.
Netflix will need a show to replace its renowned retro hit now that Stranger Things season 5 is confirmed to be the story's conclusion, and the company should revisit the original series it prematurely canceled. Over the years, viewers have developed a deep affection for Stranger Things' cast and characters, but a show with a similar subject and style has the potential to inspire as much interest.

Netflix, the streaming giant known for its high production output, has struggled to maintain successful superhero series in recent years. However, the newly released “Supacell” may be poised to change this trend, boasting a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and strong audience engagement.
The streaming platform has a history of canceling superhero shows prematurely, often after just one or two seasons, despite positive reviews and dedicated fan bases. Notable casualties include “I Am Not Okay With This,” “Jupiter’s Legacy,” “Lockwood & Co.,” “Warrior Nun,” and “Raising Dion.” Even the successful “The Umbrella Academy” is set to conclude after its fourth season, with a planned spin-off already scrapped.
Netflix’s cancellation decisions are reportedly based on metrics such as total views and completion rates. The latter may be particularly crucial for superhero shows, which typically require larger budgets due to special effects. Competing with established superhero content on other platforms like...

Netflix struggles with superhero shows, often canceling them prematurely despite positive reception. Completion rates may be a key factor in cancelations, with superhero shows requiring larger budgets than normal. Supacell could break the superhero curse, receiving high praise and strong viewership.
Netflix is a production powerhouse, but when it comes to superhero shows, it frequently cancels the shows prematurely. However, with the recent release of Supacell, a show that has garnered glowing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, hopefully Netflix will break the tradition. Netflix is one of the biggest production companies in the world, but it also has an extremely high churn rate. Obviously, not every show becomes a hit, and Netflix needs to keep a close eye on shows that are worth the budget, and those that are not.
But, some of the cancelations from the streaming giant have baffled audiences when shows develop strong fanbases and receive rave reviews.

Following rumors over the weekend, TV Line has confirmed that Hasbro's Power Rangers cinematic universe, which was expected to include both an original television show and new films, that had been in development at Netflix for the past two years is no longer moving forward at the streamer.
X user @Jinsakuu was the first to break the story, before the trade was able to obtain confirmation. In their initial tweet, the online scooper explained, "Due to the lack of staff and all the departments and responsibilities Hasbro had to take on. They’re lisencing Power Rangers Toys and Media off to other companies. As we seen with playmates who now own full control of the toys they’re doing the same with the show rights. Also they’re trying to be as hands off as possible and still own the franchises revenues. So good news maybe ??"

Dakota Johnson, her producing partner Ro Donnelly and writer-director Christy Hall were on hand to celebrate the New York premiere of their upcoming film, Daddio, at the Tribeca Festival on Monday night.
The film, which also stars Sean Penn, follows Johnson’s Girlie as she gets in a cab, driven by Penn’s Clark, to take her from John F. Kennedy airport to her midtown Manhattan apartment. Over the course of their ride, the two have a “life-altering conversation” about the important relationships in their lives.
Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter that she was drawn to Daddio because of “the idea of humans being strangers and being so vulnerable with each other and connecting with each other and having a sort of life-altering conversation.”
The Madame Web star also produced the film alongside Donnelly through their TeaTime Pictures banner. “It was amazing,” she said of producing and acting in the film.

Code 8: Part II offers a fresh take on superheroes, diverging from Marvel and DC's overly optimistic tone. Audiences find it easy to connect with the characters and heavy topics addressed in both Code 8 and I Am Not Okay With This. A potential revival of I Am Not Okay With This could finally resolve the major cliffhanger from season 1, satisfying fans.
Netflix's new superhero movie sequel, Code 8: Part II, proves that a show canceled 4 years ago should get a revival. With the number of Marvel and DC movies and TV shows, superhero fatigue has grown immensely. The peppy, hopeful attitude in some of the MCU movies feels out of touch with today's world. Some modern additions like Black Panther have dealt with serious topics like racism. Additionally, subliminal messages in comic movies may allude to serious topics. However, everything getting fixed easily feels unrealistic.

Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn headline single location drama Daddio, and the first trailer has landed: more here.
It would be fair to say that Dakota Johnson hasn’t had the best month. It began with a press tour that seemed to be doing more harm than good in trying to promote Sony’s Spiderman spin-off Madame Web, in which her comments during the tour generated a huge amount of press. This was swiftly followed by a slew of vitriolic reviews – we gave Madame Web a firm but fair one star.
Still, Johnson has many films in the pipeline, the next one to be released will be single location philosophical drama Daddio. For reference, this is the film Johnson was talking about when she described Hollywood as “heartbreaking” and “fucking bleak” – a conclusion she came to because Daddio took “a lot of fighting to get made.”

American Born Chinese actor Ben Wang needs to start practicing his crane kicks because he’s the star of Sony’s new Karate Kid. Wang’s casting comes after a global search for the right actor. Wang beat thousands of competitors for the role, with 10,000 entries reported in 24 hours. The anticipated film finds Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio reprising their roles from previous chapters of the Karate Kid franchise.
To say Wang’s audition was impressive would be an understatement. Not only did he display a profound understanding of the character, but he’s also fluent in Mandarin and trained in multiple martial arts forms. His arsenal of skills includes karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, Kempo, and taekwondo training.
Details about the plot remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts.

The Society was canceled by Netflix after one season, leaving many fans disappointed and wanting more. The cancellation was due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which made production too expensive with health and safety protocols in place. Despite not being able to continue The Society, the cast members have found success in other projects, with several landing major roles in movies and TV shows.
With The Society canceled, many fans wondered why Netflix made this decision. When news first broke that a "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" reboot would be coming to Prime Video, fans of the 2005 action romance flick were understandably skeptical. Do we really need a new version of this married spy story? Could any other version live up to the steaminess of the original, with its pretty A-list stars, snappy plot, and real-life love story unfolding behind the scenes?
As we learn more about the new "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," it turns out we needn't be worried: this version clearly isn't aiming to reboot the original. Billed as a "reimagining," the new saga is poised to make a lot of key changes to the familiar premise, stretching the plot to fit a TV show and rewriting the spies as newlyweds in an arranged marriage who are aware of one another's secret agent status from the start. Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
Netflix is delving back into the world of Black Mirror.
Months after the debut of its sixth season, reports have emerged that Netflix is already prepping Black Mirror Season 7.
With the speedier-than-usual renewal, there's a high chance we won't wait as long for fresh episodes.
The four-year wait between Seasons 5 and 6 was a lot.
Then again, maybe there will still be a significant delay because the series tends to attract big names due to the one-episode commitment afforded by its format.
Black Mirror has remained a success story for Netflix, reaching the Top 10 in countless countries.
The series started on Channel 4 but moved to Netflix in 2016 and has enjoyed a bigger budget and more cutting-edge stories than before.
We're unsure where the series will go next, but we'll be seated when new episodes pop into our Netflix queue.

Netflix's habit of canceling shows too early has left fans feeling frustrated and betrayed, as promising series like "The Oa," "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance," and "I Am Not Okay With This" were abruptly ended after only one season. The streaming service seems to be trying to replicate the success of shows like "Game of Thrones" and "Stranger Things" by producing fantasy, sci-fi, and supernatural stories that can capture the zeitgeist and attract new viewers. However, not all of these shows have been able to achieve the same level of popularity and viewership. While some canceled shows like "Warrior Nun" and "Cursed" were able to gain a dedicated fan base and even campaign for a movie trilogy, others like "Lockwood & Co." and "The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself" left viewers with unanswered questions and a sense of disappointment. Netflix's cancelation decisions often leave fans longing for more.

One of the most celebrated cinematic interpretations of Stephen King is the two-film adaptation of his seminal horror novel "It." Directed by Andy Muschietti, with the movies released in 2017 and 2019, "It" follows the twisted coming-of-age of a group of childhood friends in Derry, Maine. While the seven kids are harassed by neighborhood bully Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) and his gang of teenage ne'er-do-wells, a different kind of evil festers under Derry. Primarily appearing in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård), this otherworldly monster instills fear in its young victims before consuming them entirely.
Though the creature has haunted the region since ancient times, the first chapter takes place in the summer of 1989. That's when Pennywise surfaces to claim new victims around Derry while setting its sights on the main characters. Finding strength and solace in numbers, these friends refer to themselves share a bond under the banner...

Sony Pictures Classics is in negotiations to pick up “Daddio,” TheWrap has learned. While the acquisition is not yet a done deal, SPC is on the verge of grabbing the Sean Penn/Dakota Johnson taxi melodrama for North America, Latin America and various European and Asian territories.
The picture, directed by Christy Hall — who previously co-created the Netflix series “I Am Not Okay with This” — had a well-received debut at Telluride and then at Toronto. Her directorial debut concerns a taxi driver (Penn) and a rider as they get to know each other during a trip from the JFK airport to Manhattan.
Repped by CAA Media Finance and WME Independent, the film was granted a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement, which allowed the two actors to do publicity in Toronto. It was produced by Hercules Film Fund, TeaTime Pictures, First Love Films, Raindrop Valley, Projected Picture Works and Rhea Films.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures Classics is in exclusive negotiations to acquire Daddio, the Christy Hall-directed two-hander starring Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson. The film established itself as a bright spot in its premiere at Telluride and then at Toronto. SPC will get North America, Latin America and territories throughout Europe and Asia.
Hall, who co-created the series I Am Not Okay With This, makes her feature directorial debut armed with a taxi cab, two terrific actors and a razor-sharp script in which a driver and his fare get to know each other and intimate aspects of their lives during the course of a traffic-snarled road trip from JFK to midtown Manhattan.
Penn plays the cab driver, who engages his passenger in small talk that becomes gradually more revealing. Johnson plays the young woman who is navigating an affair with a married father and who clearly has misgivings about it. Penn,...

The new Power Rangers reboot should move away from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and explore new storylines and characters for a fresh take on the franchise. The show should have fewer Zord and Megazord battles to create a more realistic and weighty tone for a young adult audience. The Power Rangers reboot should introduce a new continuity and original costumes, while drawing inspiration from Super Sentai and the Power Rangers comics.
A young adult Power Rangers reboot show has been in the works for a few years, and there are plenty of ways for this new series to revitalize the franchise for new audiences while also keeping the essence of Power Rangers. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, the 30th Power Rangers season, could be the final season in the current format of Sentai adaptations. Cosmic Fury is already breaking the Power Rangers formula, with a shorter season and original costumes. While...

Outside the Marvel and DC bubble, there are plenty of superhero stories to watch, with genres ranging from coming-of-age comedies to criminal mysteries. Smaller groups and other publishers are releasing projects that are gaining more attention, offering unique and diverse superhero content. Shows like "I Am Not Okay With This," "The Nevers," and "Extraordinary" have received positive feedback for their outstanding acting, quality storytelling, and comedic elements.
The superhero genre has exploded in the last couple of decades, and this wave of popularity has resulted in a growing library of superhero movies and TV shows from outside Marvel and DC. DC has long held a leading position when it comes to TV shows with franchises like the Arrowverse, Gotham, and more recent projects like Peacemaker that quickly gained a substantial following. Marvel has recently dedicated a considerable budget and effort to producing TV shows connected to the wider MCU and...
