Blake Shelton‘s “God’s Country” was written by a group of country artists. Shelton was not one of them. During an interview, Shelton revealed what it was like hearing the track for the first time. He felt very connected to God in that moment.
Blake Shelton heard ‘God’s Country’ while he was ‘working on the land’ in Oklahoma
During a 2019 interview with The Tennessean, Shelton discussed hearing “God’s Country” for the first time while he was on his farm in Oklahoma. “It was the most shocking moment I’ve had in my 20 years of doing this,” he said. “I was in a place physically that I consider to be God’s country doing the thing that makes me feel the most connected to God, which is working on the land … It’s almost like a chance to stop and catch your breath and go, ‘We’re still all here. “The Voice” just can’t quit Blake Shelton.
Four months after leaving NBC’s reality TV show, the country coach’s shadow still looms large as it aired its Season 24 premiere on Monday, September 25. Blake was mentioned a whopping 16 times during the two-hour opener, with current coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire seemingly feeling “Lonely Tonight” because the “God’s Country” singer isn’t still buzzing around the set like a “Honey Bee.”
Blake’s first shout-out came at the two-minute mark, when host Carson Daly presented the newest coach with a big pair of scissors so she could cut through the red ribbon on her chair. “Reba, here are your giant scissors for your chair. It’s been cleaned since Blake sat in it, don’t worry,” Carson said. As Reba sliced through the ribbon, Gwen (aka Blake’s wife) exclaimed, “Oh my God, I’m gonna cry!

Tom Petty’s 1994 album “Wildflowers,” the subject of the SXSW documentary “Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free,” was in some ways one of the veteran rocker’s most casual albums. Made with producer Rick Rubin after a pair of bigger-sounding, more meticulously arranged albums with Jeff Lynne, “Wildflowers” has a low-key, ramshackle air to it, with its rough-hewn rocker songs tossed together with loose shuffles and acoustic ballads that actually have more going on than you realize.
There’s an intimacy and a melancholy to it, as befits a group of songs written by a guy whose state in life was summed up in the couplet that opened “To Find a Friend”: “In the middle of his life/He left his wife.”
“Wildflowers” was a subtle album whose impact slowly grew over time; nothing about it insisted that it should be taken as a big statement. But a recent boxed set,...

Sudbury, Ontario, is home to one of Canada’s largest, and most unique attractions — the Big Nickel. Measuring 30 feet in diameter, and weighing 13,000 kilograms (14.33 tons), the massive landmark is exactly what it sounds like — a huge replica of the 1951 Canadian nickel. It’s a distinct feature in the otherwise indistinct northern Ontario town, one that has endured the harsh Canadian climate’s wear and tear thanks to an inner steel core wrapped by a stainless steel outer core.

It would be easy to dismiss Rama Rau’s first non-documentary feature Honey Bee as another melodramatically grim look at the consequences of sex trafficking in North America because it does utilize a lot of narrative convenience as far as driving the plot towards its endgame. Doing so, however, would discount the reason why Bonnie Fairweather and Kathleen Hepburn’s script works this way and why the resulting message is more important than the journey to get there. The whole point of portraying young Natalie’s (Julia Sarah Stone) plight is to provide an example for how the cycle of abuse can be broken. It’s not about piling on the tragedy or sweeping her trauma under the rug for some unrealistic rebirth in the aftermath. It’s about growing, healing, and hope.

"Time is money, let's go." Syndicado has debuted the official US trailer for a Canadian film titled Honey Bee, the first feature from acclaimed doc filmmaker Rama Rau. This premiered at the Whistler Film Festival in 2018, and is getting a VOD release this month in the US. Honey Bee is an unpredictable tale of survival that follows the journey of quick-witted "Honey Bee", an underage truck stop sex worker ensnared by her ruthless Romeo-pimp boyfriend. Unwittingly, she is taken into foster care with her new family, Louise and Christian, in a remote rural area in Northern Canada where she discovers there might be more to life than the hand she's been dealt. Rau needed to tell this story as a fictionalized drama because to tell the real stories would put the lives of these girls at risk. Starring Julia Sarah Stone, Martha Plimpton, Peter Outerbridge, Steven Love, and Michelle McLeod.
