It starts at what is on the screen called The British Embassy, Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia. The story takes place in the 1950s, when Northern Rhodesia was a British colony. Colonial powers don't have embassies in their own colonies. In fact, no embassies exist in colonies, only in independent countries.

Makes a change from investigating a murder

Lady Felicia, not surprisingly, is entertaining a gentleman friend. Nicholai Solovey, a Russian businessman, wants Lady Felicia to give him a necklace that once belonged to his family.

The necklace had been given to Lady Felicia by her late father. Lady Felicia, despite being pressured by Yuri Galka's presence, refuses to capitulate. And he steals it.

It doesn't take us long to figure out Father Brown will need an expert to open Mr Solovey's safe. Is there anyone that springs to mind? Enter Hercule Flambeau ... if there's anyone could crack open the safe it's him but can he be trusted.

Fun episode with Lady Felicity returning for this episode. It's sort of a mission impossible scenario with Bunty, Father, Lady Felicity - who does a good turn as a maid - Mrs McCarthy and the shady Flambeau joint together to hoodwink the Russsian and retrieve the jewels from the safe. It's quite a lively tale, has good set-pieces and some good twists.
