Sky Force Vs Top 10 Republic Day Openers At Box Office: Pathaan Dominates The List! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
After a disastrous run last year, Akshay Kumar is looking for a fresh start in 2025, and the lineup starts with Sky Force. Also starring Veer Pahariya in a key role, the film is releasing this Friday. Backed by the patriotic flavor, the biggie seems to be a perfect treat ahead of Republic Day. However, as far as the advance booking trends at the Indian box office are concerned, the situation is not that good.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the actor was having a great run, but the post-pandemic era has been really disastrous for him. It seems that this poor run has affected the buzz of his upcoming biggie. January 2024 Box Office Collection: 64% Less Than Last Year (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Hindi films were supposed to start big this year in 2024 after the box office got a booster dose last year with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which performed outrageously well at the box office. However, this year, Hindi films have not been able to match even 50% of what they earned last year.
This year, January 2024, was led by Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone‘s Fighter, majorly with other small releases collecting whatever they could in their capacities. However, the overall collection for January 2024 is not impressive at all.
In fact, it can be said that January 2024 is the lowest earning opening month of the year in the last four years. This comes as a little disappointment since it was expected that Fighter would also perform unbelievably well, even if it does not match Pathaan’s rage. However, the opening...

Fighter Box Office Collection Day 1 Vs Last 10 Republic Day Releases (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter opened at the box office, and it did not perform as expected. The two main reasons might be the cold wave throughout the north and the day of release being a working day. The film was collected in the range of 21 – 22 crore on the opening day.
However, Dp and Hrithik’s opening at the box office has earned fairly well if compared to the last 10 Republic Day releases in the last seven years. From 2015 to 2023, 11 films were released in this period of 8 years.
Except for Pathaan, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and released on Republic Day weekend, 2023, most of the other films have faired decently or poorly. Only a few have managed to earn in the same range as Fighter’s opening-day collection.

January 2024 Box Office Collection Expectations From Katrina Kaif, Hrithik Roshan & Deepika Padukone ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
The year 2024 is expected to deliver a banger with Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter. However, it will not be the first film of the year. The first Bollywood film of the year would be Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s Merry Christmas.
Unlike the last year, this year has three releases in January. However, in 2023, January witnessed two other releases – Kuttey, which did not create much buzz, and Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu, dubbed in Hindi. Both of them were very limited in terms of buzz.
So the only big release of January in 2023 was Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, unlike this year when three Bollywood films were ready to hit theaters. But what is interesting is their expected opening numbers at the box office, according to the buzz.

"Whatsup.. had a shoulder injury from the time of shooting street dancer. Never healed properly but now after proper rehab, rest, training and yoga I can start putting weight on it and maybe get back to these exercises," Varun wrote.
With his note, he posted a video in which he can be seen doing a single dumbbell push up.
Varun will next be seen sharing screen space with Sara Ali Khan in the remake of the 1995 hit film "Coolie No. 1", which is directed by his father David Dhawan.

Dedicated Shraddha Kapoor has started this year with quite a big bang releasing two movies back to back, already. She has played two completely different roles in both the movies already proving the gravitas of her versatility.
The actress?s performance in her dance-oriented film ?Street Dancer 3D? was alluring and exemplary. Her performance is proof that she has no intention of holding herself back this year and all intentions of giving it her all.
When asked recently, how she best describes this space of constant growth and empowerment, she shares, ?The best part is that you get to play different characters as an actor. Street Dancer 3D takes the film franchise that is Street Dancer to its expected next level, with the returning characters played by Prabhu Deva, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor being joined by the new queen of dance Nora Fatehi for a dance off for the ages. Throw in the India-Pakistan rivalry and a global dance competition, and there is nowhere in the world of dance left to hide. The previous films have been successful in the past on remade music, some of which has come through here as well, which like the title song for Race, Dhoom or Golmaal, give the whole series an overarching flavour. But still this album will also be something special, and the use of Taniskh Bagchi, Baadshah, Guru Randhwa and Sachin-Jigar, give the audience and listener both a feast.
If one is to be a street dancer, they must be ready for Muqabla in all circumstances.

This Friday will witness another interesting clash, this time between the Aditya Roy Kapoor and Disha Patani starrer Malang ?and Vinod Chopra?s film on the plight of the Kashmiri Pandit?s, Shikara. ?The front runner will be Malang, based on a good promotion as well as getting popular music.

The major release of the week, Saif Ali Khan?s Jawaani Jaaneman, which was expected to be a sort of a comeback for Saif (more so due to his sterling negative act in the blockbuster Tanhaji), failed to keep up to the expectations. The opening day saw a 10 percent start with a small pick up during the latter shows, resulting in a 3 crore plus opening day.?
Having said that, with Saif in his ?comfort zone?, back in (mature) ?Casanova image and favourable reviews, the film is expected to see a decent weekend haul, ?despite limited screening.
The other release, ?Himesh Reshammiya?s Happy Hardy And Heer saw a so-so start.?
Meanwhile, last Friday?s dance extravaganza, Remo Fernandez directed Varun-Shraddha starrer, Street Dancer 3D, could not quite build on a 40 crore weekend as it ended the opening week netting 54-55 crore. And just as we had said in our regular box-office report,...

Well, 2019 is now in the past and the record books have it safely locked away, so its best time to look forward to what will be another action, drama and comedy packed year of Bollywood cinemas. At 89 years old, Bollywood is still right on the pulse of modern society, giving audiences things to talk about and think about all the way till Nye 2021. Some things will carry on from last year: there’s plenty of female-centric films and plenty to be had especially for action and comedy buffs. So, below...
