Exclusive: Director Cameron Van Hoy has entered production on The Prince, a new feature drama penned by Pulitzer Prize winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet. Scott Haze (Old Henry) leads a starry ensemble that also includes Nicolas Cage (Pig), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Giancarlo Esposito (Parish) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven).

The Prince chronicles an addict’s tumultuous odyssey through the high-stakes world of power, pleasure, and pain on a transformative journey toward recovery.

While unconfirmed, we’re told by multiple sources close to the project that the lead character Parker, played by Haze, is inspired at least in part by Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, whose abuse of drugs and alcohol is well documented — including in his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things — and who was found guilty Tuesday in Delaware of three felony counts related to the purchase of a gun in 2018.

Exclusive: In recent years, comedian Tom Segura has taken to both his podcasts and the press to tease a pilot that he self-financed, produced and sold. And now, he’s revealed Netflix as the destination for the project, a six-episode dark comedy series that he’ll star in and produce.

This is just Segura’s latest deal with the streamer, which has previously put out each of his five chart-topping comedy specials. The untitled series, for which he also serves as narrator, will see him take the viewer through a series of vignettes in each episode. The twisted comedic sensibility of his stand-up is the core DNA of this series, where every story will unfold in a in a hilariously disturbing way only he could imagine.

Exclusive: Comedian Tom Segura has identified the most promising vehicle yet to showcase his acting chops, as Deadline understands that he’s in talks for multiple roles in Dirty Rotten Bastard, a show biz-centric indie from Ed Helms & Mike Falbo’s Pacific Electric Picture Company.

Helmed by Ryan McNeely and Josh Martin, aka The Director Brothers, the film tells the insane true story of an aspiring filmmaker who is kidnapped by deranged lounge singer Tony Clifton. Initially drawn to document Clifton’s world, he is thrust into a chaotic journey of sex, celebrity, and comedy, blurring the lines between observer and participant, and testing his sanity.

Segura will play legendary avant-garde comedian Andy Kaufman’s larger-than-life comedic persona Clifton, as well as the performer’s friend and longtime collaborator Bob Zmuda.

Buddy Duress, who co-starred alongside Robert Pattinson in the Safdie Brothers’ Good Time, has died at the age of 38.

According to People, Duress died of “a cardiac arrest from a drug cocktail” in November 2023. His death was confirmed to People by his brother, Christopher Stathis.

Duress made his acting debut in the Safdie Brothers’ 2014 film Heaven Knows What, in which he played a drug dealer named Mike. Duress initially met co-director Josh Safdie while on the run after skipping out on a drug in-patient program. He ultimately missed the film’s premiere as he was apprehended by police and sent back to prison.

In 2017, following his release from prison, Duress reconnected with the Safdie Brothers for the crime thriller Good Time. The film, partially based off of his own journal, featured Duress in the role of the career criminal Ray, opposite Pattinson and Benny Safdie.

Duress’ brother Christopher Stathis revealed to People on Tuesday that the actor died in November 2023 of “cardiac arrest from a drug cocktail.”

Duress was born in Queens, New York, in May 1985. He made his acting debut in Josh and Benny Safdie’s 2014 film “Heaven Knows What,” which also stars Caleb Landry Jones and Arielle Holmes. In “Good Time,” Duress portrayed Ray, a drug dealer who becomes Connie Nikas’ (Pattinson) partner in crime as the two attempt to retrieve a Sprite bottle containing liquid LSD.

Tom Segura will continue to bring humor to Netflix viewers as the streaming service has confirmed two new stand-up specials. The comedian who is a NY Times bestselling author, podcast host and actor will host his fifth and sixth comedy special for the streamer with the first slated to premiere in 2023.

Segura is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. Well known for his Netflix specials Ball Hog, Disgraceful, Completely Normal, and Mostly Stories, Segura has also made feature film appearances that include Instant Family, Countdown, Flinch, and The Opening Act, among others.

The comedian is one of the top-selling touring acts in the world, having sold hundreds of thousands of tickets on multiple international tours.

Additionally, he co-hosts two of the most popular comedy podcasts, “Your Mom’s House,” with his wife, comedian Christina P. and “Two Bears, One Cave” with fellow comedian Bert Kreischer. Segura also produces multiple podcasts under his Ymh Studios brand.

Netflix’s Jackass-style non-scripted format Flinch is to be remade for Russia’s Ctc following a deal struck with Sony Pictures Television. Produced by Sony-backed Stellify Media, the original show, which aired for one series in 2019, is set on a remote farm in the hills of Ireland where brave and foolish contestants gather to test their nerve in three games, abiding by one rule only: “Do not flinch.” If they flinch, there are painful consequences, both for the contestants, and for hosts Desiree Burch, Lloyd Griffiths and Seann Walsh. Sony-backed Russian company Lean-m will produce the adaptation, which is being hosted in a barn by Mikhail Galustyan, Artur Babich and Valya Karnaval under the name Не Дрогни / Ne Drogn (Don’t Flinch!).

Sony Pictures Television-owned independent production outfit Stellify Media, have signed a deal that will see the format of their Netflix series “Flinch” adapted for Russia.

The format is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

The original show was set on a remote farm in the hills of Ireland where contestants gathered to test their nerve against three fiendish games. If they flinched, there were hilariously painful consequences both for them, and for the hosts, who had each chosen a player to represent them in the games. The original 10-episode series was hosted by comedians Desiree Burch, Lloyd Griffiths and Seann Walsh and debuted on Netflix in 2019. A second season has not been greenlit yet.

The Russian version has been developed in association with Sony Pictures Television and is produced by Spt’s Russian production company Lean-m, and will continue with a barn setting. Mikhail Galustyan, Artur Babich and Valya Karnaval...

Segura is best known for his Netflix specials Ball Hog (2020), Disgraceful (2018), Mostly Stories (2016), and Completely Normal (2014). While he’d planned to unveil an additional Spanish-language special on Netflix last fall, its release has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Segura previously released the hour-long stand-up albums White Girls With Cornrows and Thrilled in 2012 and 2010, respectively. He’ll kick off his latest world tour, “I’m Coming Everywhere” on December 31, with two shows at the Hawaii Theater Center in Honolulu, Hi, and will continue touring throughout 2022.
