I watched this movie because I loved Xiao Zhan in The Untamed, and he was one of the lead actors in this film. I haven't read the novel that it's based on. However, I heard that the novel spans 8 volumes! So, I didn't know what to expect plot-wise (I mean, how do you fit that much plot into less than two hours?).
The beginning of the film was pretty hilarious, but the plot/direction kind of disintegrated from there. Some of the transitions, character introductions, and plot points were confusing. Honestly, the "twist/emotional scene" near the end lacked power not particularly because of any acting issues, but that I didn't feel enough build up in the characters' relationship to be invested in the story.
Honestly, I feel like this was a situation where the entire production was disconnected from each other. The script was weak, the film wasn't long enough to fully develop the large cast of characters, they tried to include too many elements that weren't done well, and they probably tried to cut corners on production costs (that CGI, anyone?). Speaking to some of the other reviews: People need to produce better movies and not expect actors to carry the full weight of a bad script. With that being said, if all the cogs were at their best, this would be a completely different movie.
As mindless entertainment though, the acting was decent, there was a lot of situational humor, some fighting and explosions and love triangles and drama. It's worth a watch, but I probably wouldn't watch again.

What I liked about the " Jade Dynasty " (first movie hopefully), was the
first part of the movie. It was somehow the background of the main
character and how he became his final self in the ending. However,
the second part of the movie was rushed, almost confusing, and it had
an open ending (that is a bad thing if they don't have a second movie
coming up...).
That said, the performances were good and the costumes were nice. They did a good job with the atmosphere of the story, as it looked epic and fairy tale like. However, the CGIs were not good and kind of ruined the action scenes.
So, overall, six out of ten.

The story is good, and directed well. So the mystery is still there, preserve nicely. I love the detail about the deep story and characters. First I thought this will just become like any other fantasy martial art, and I'm not sure Meiqi able to act or not. But after I watched it, wow... she is act really well, her act is one of the major that make this movie good for me.
In conclusion, this movie is different from any other fantasy martial art which is mostly boring, not funny, too mainstream, to many similarities with other masterpiece. This movie directed more seriously and passionately. Just back to the core how the classic martial are look like, and develop the originality and creativity from there. Very good, Thank you for the movie.
Definitely will watch for the second one, hope Meiqi's character still unique and fun to watch...

I am a fan of the Jade Dynasty novel. I remember that i was instantly hooked to the story when i read it on my phone in high school. As the day goes by, i often come back to read it again and again. It brought me new feelings very single time. I feel i understand the characters better as im growing older. This story carries so much childhood memories that i cherish dearly.
I went into the cinema with high expectations, because the trailer was good. However the movie itself is a absolutely disaster. The actors clearly lack of proper acting skills. I am pretty sure they are picked for the job just by the looks. Its full of meaningless and fake emotions. Certain information of the story was squeezed in inappropriately. The story editor did a horrifying job putting the pieces together. It just feels like a mess. I am fairly certain that if someone has not read or heard about the story would not understand what the heck is going on in the movie.
I love chinese movies. I watch them while i grew up. But now it is going the in the direction that i truely despise. Every movie seems like to one-time money grab from a famous IP and move on. Nobody cares about the quality and viewer experience. But everyone has to pretent that everyone is doing great job moving the chinese movie industry forward in the yearly ceremonies. STOP lying to yourselves.
Please dont make such movies anymore, stop ruining my childhood memories.

The storyline had a lot of potential. The plot could have been exploited much better. However, this movie wrapped everything very quickly. The battles were not intense and the special effects very poor in quality.
Was this movie actually just a character introduction for an upcoming full series?
The story line of this movie based novel "Zhu Xian". I have read and watched drama that based from this novel too. This movie production is good. The director made so much effort to put some of comedy.
I was watching this movie after busy work. Glad that I watch this movie that contain comedy. I have great laugh. Finally I can release of my stress.

Watch it for fun but its horrible ride, the CGI are cheap, plots are nowhere and the acting GOSH!! The main actor are really cant act and dont have any chemistry with female actress. Waste my times.
Being a fan of the legend of Chusen and the lead actor 😊 Xiao Zhan l am please they put a great movie together. Is a long story so see how the movie develop a cohesive story was very nice.
One of the worst movie I have watch with no good content in it. The move is terrible with bad cgi and the plot is going nowhere. It's too boring and dumb to watch till the end. Actors can't act as well. Chinese movie are going downhill in my opinion. I am growing more disappointed with Chinese movie.

This is a film adaptation of a novel of the same title. I believe a TV series is also made based on the novel. I understand how novel to film adaptations often have to leave a lot out because a movie just don't have enough time to cover an entire book and the makers of this film accounted for it to break the book up in part and this is supposed to be part 1 to set everything up. But it just totally bombed at its job. I have no desire at all to watch this movie's sequels if they ever get made.
There could be a lot of potential with the cast. Several up coming new stars and some old stars as well. But the film spent way too much time showing off CGI special effects that are mediocre and run of the mill at best and contributed very little to the overall story telling. It seems to be a trend with new Chinese movies these days to over-use CGI special effects to out-Hollywood Hollywood. But it just feel like it's too much.
Frankly the film feels like "just another fantasy action film" from China with lots of fluff and little real substance. Lack originality. Needlessly flashy CGI effects. Can't understand why anyone would actually like it.

First the opening is super unnatural, male lead's shi xiong spilled the food he hold on hand so they can eat from the air, stupid. Hecooked for everyone, which later served on table, this is a very ridiculous setup to indicate the he cooks very well. The first girl that came out having worst acting skill that I don't expect to see from big screen, terrible! The male lead is slightly better, he has all the right facial expressions, but he doesn't acts good, he is just acting the character as taught, instead of acting out as he is the character himself. The story is weak, for 20 mins I still don't get the content, just showing the background story by narratives. The director use group of man that secretly go and sneak in the female lead to show that she is very strong and powerful, but it's just meaningless.
Just finish this evening and I think this movie is quite interesting .They should continue to make another part so the story might be more clear. And the male lead and actresses are also cute xD I like how they add CGI effect on clothes. well, Chinese movies CGI are can't compare to western. I think it not so bad for a Chinese movie.

Wonderful production design - really beautiful! Plus Xiao Zhan is incomparably compelling (catch him in "The Untamed too). This film is a super fun world to spend a couple of hours. If you appreciate Chinese fantasy drama, you'll enjoy this delightful little romp among the "gods"... (and the glorious water monster! And the trained monkey!)

After I watched Chen Qing Ling (The Untamed), I found that Xiao Zhan was also in this film, so, I've been waiting a long time for this one to come out. And now, I could finally watch it. Before I watched, I didn't have that much high hope. I only watched it because it has Xiao Zhan. But when the film reached the middle, I found out that it wasn't that bad. The story is quite good and the special effects are good too. That being said, there is something not smooth that can be seen in the special effects. But I'd say it's still doing good.
The only thing I don't understand is the English title. "Jade Dynasty" doesn't have anything to do with the word "Zhu Xian". In the other words, those two titles are completely opposite. I wonder how and why did they give such an English title?
Talking about title, the title says Zhu Xian 1. So, I guess there's going to be sequel. And also, when the film's finished, I found some of the facts are missing and I feel like it's not complete one. Furthermore, they didn't explain who killed Zhang Xiaofan's the whole villagers. If they explained it, it'd be better.
I thought the film was going to be serious. But it turned out it wasn't that much. Still, it's good too. Some scenes are quite funny. I even laughed out loud. But as for the one who loves to watch more serious films, I'd say this one is not that much serious. That being said, comedy is sometimes necessary. So, even it's not that serious, but it's still watchable and I enjoyed it a lot.
All in all, I rarely watch around 2 hours run-time Chinese films. So, I can't write review that much. But what I can tell you is that the plot of this film is not that bad, the acting is quite good and the special effects used are fine. Hence, it makes quite a good film. Even if it isn't your taste, I think at least, it's going to be worth a watch. I don't know about others, as for me, I'm going to be looking forward for the second part if they are planning to make it.

I love Xiao Zhan's performance. I think the content of the whole novel cannot complete in just only part 1 so waiting for part 2 and more.

For a Chinese movie, this is one of my favorites. I really like the role of Xiao Zhan here. The acting is amazing even though it is his debut movie. Already watch his series "The Untamed" and it was also great. Hoping this movie will have part 2 soon and I am willing to wait.
As a fan of chinese movie,I think this is a must watch movie.
The story development and the plot line are good.
And acting skills of the actors are good too.
Bonus:actors have good looks.....

Enjoy Xiao zhan's performance playing the role as Xiao Fan (someone a bit silly but very kind hearted and tender), just like the entire cast, he did a great job!
