- Lance Waddell: Thank you for pushing me to put more of myself in the flip. And believing in me. It means a lot, Jules.
- Jules Briggs: Well, I like to think that I was believing in us.
- Lance Waddell: Sounds like you're in the market for a partner.
- Jules Briggs: Oh, do you, do you know one?
- Lance Waddell: I might. You do have to be willing to bend, though.
- Jules Briggs: Oh. Oh, well, I bend.
- [Lance kisses Jules and dips her]
- Elsie Baxter: So you've done this sort of competition thing before?
- Jules Briggs: No. Well, once we flipped a house together. but we're not together anymore.
- Elsie Baxter: But you were once together, like, together together?
- Lance Waddell: A very long time ago, yeah?
- Elsie Baxter: So, this is a little more than just a professional rivalry.
- Jules Briggs: No, no, no, no. This is strictly professional.
- Lance Waddell: Definitely. It's professional.
- Elsie Baxter: And the plot thickens.
- Richard: Whew. So, are you gonna have this place ready for me to put on the market for you in three months?
- Lance Waddell: Two, actually. I may have blurted out an eight-week turnaround to Jules.
- Richard: Oh, that seems totally manageable.
- Lance Waddell: What can I say. Always up for a little friendly competition.
- Richard: You certainly are.
- Kenny: [jump to different conversation] Friendly competition is fine, but I have two other jobs right now. You couldn't have given me more time.
- Jules Briggs: I know, I'm sorry. It..look if it's too much I don't...
- Kenny: No, no, no. This is just as much a competition for me as it is for you. Waddell Contracting has made themselves a nice name so I am gonna sell this side for way more money.
- Richard: [jump to different conversation] We need to sell this side for way more money. We can't be the side that sells for less. And she's good. You know, I took a couple clients to her last property.
- Lance Waddell: Hey. I was trained by the great Ed Waddell, alright? I know exactly what to do with this place.
- Kenny: [jump to different conversation] You know exactly what to do with this place. This is it, Jules. This is the one that gets you where you're going and I am expecting a lot of work from you when your empire takes off.
- Jules Briggs: Wow, I'm gonna have an empire?
- Kenny: Well, that wasn't awkward at all.
- Jules Briggs: Not in the slightest.
- Lance Waddell: Little bit awkward for me, but that's alright.
- Lance Waddell: So, what's your max bid?
- Jules Briggs: Oh, come on, Lance, you don't ask a lady that number?
- Lance Waddell: Just wanna know what I'm dealing with here. Come on, how deep are those pockets?
- Jules Briggs: Deep enough. You just worry about your own pockets.
- Teri: You know what? None of this would even be happening if it weren't for Lance being back?
- Jules Briggs: Lance? What're you talking about? This has nothing to do with Lance.
- Teri: I know you two are like night and day but he challenges you. He always has.
- Jules Briggs: Well, I guess I felt that if he had to be right that meant that I was wrong and I don't like being told I'm wrong... .It wasn't only the flip. It seemed that we were always on opposite sides of things, you know? Where to eat, what movies to see..
- Teri: Yeah, but that opens you up to a whole new world.
- Jules Briggs: Well, not in this case. It doesn't matter. He's got his side and I've got mine.
- Teri: I always thought Lance was good for you. Like a motivating force.
- Lance Waddell: Well, I plan on being done in around eight weeks.
- Jules Briggs: What a coincidence. So do I.
- Lance Waddell: Do I sense a little wager brewing?
- Jules Briggs: We go head to head. Eight weeks. May the best flip win.
- Lance Waddell: Who's the judge of the best?
- Jules Briggs: We go by final sale price.
- Lance Waddell: What's the winner get?
- Jules Briggs: More money. And the satisfaction of beating me, if you can do it.
- Lance Waddell: Oh, I can, and I am in.
- Jules Briggs: Ooh. Well, may the best woman, or man, win.
- Lance Waddell: Bring it.
- Jules Briggs: It's been brought.
- Jules Briggs: What're you... what're you doing here? I thought you were in Portland doing the contractor thing.
- Lance Waddell: I was, but then my dad asked me to come back and help him with the business here in Bedford.
- Jules Briggs: So you are.
- Lance Waddell: So I am. Still flipping houses I hear, with Kenny no less.
- Jules Briggs: And who'd you hear that from?
- Lance Waddell: Well, you know people talk. Small real estate community. Ok, my dad told me. Says you're getting pretty good at it, too.
- Jules Briggs: You say that like you're surprised.
- Lance Waddell: No, not surprised at all. You're organized, good follow-through, completely... .determined.
- Jules Briggs: Well, I guess I don't believe in the fly-by-the-seat of my pants method of business. Tends to be costly.
- Lance Waddell: Well, you never know what you're gonna get until you open up the walls. You gotta be willing to bend.
- Jules Briggs: I'm always willing to bend.
- Lance Waddell: Except when you're not.
- Jules Briggs: Oh, I bend. When a bendable situation arises. But you can't always act on impulse, it's irresponsible.
- Lance Waddell: There's a difference between impulse and instinct.
- Jules Briggs: Veering from the plan is always a recipe for disaster.
- Lance Waddell: Well, I guess that's where you and I disagree.
- Jules Briggs: Oh, that's where? As opposed to everywhere else?
- Lance Waddell: Ok, you got me on that. I guess that's why we didn't make the best... team. You look good Jules... .Good luck.
- Jules Briggs: And yet no one could bother to tell me he was back.
- Teri: It hasn't been that long.
- Jules Briggs: Yes, and already he's making my life difficult, using my favorite tile guy so he's unavailable for me.
- Teri: Do you think Lance is doing that on purpose? Did this little wager just go next level, to sabotage?
- Jules Briggs: No. I don't think. No, the tile guy's really that good.
- Lance Waddell: [after watching Jules talk to a flooring salesman about getting a discount] Well, I think that grown man is legitimately frightened of you. Well done.
- Teri: [after watching Jules talk to Lance] Did you feel that?
- Jules Briggs: Feel what?
- Teri: The tension. It's shifting.
- Jules Briggs: Oh, stop it. Nothing's shifting.
- Teri: I feel the shift.
