Filmmaker Scott Derrickson is best known for his work in the horror genre – The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, The Black Phone – but the director has also ventured into other worlds, such as the superhero realm with Doctor Strange. Personally, I greatly appreciate his style and this time, Derrickson tries to make the most of Zach Dean’s (The Tomorrow War) screenplay and the two Hollywood stars at his disposal, Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa), to achieve another critical and commercial success with The Gorge.
The premise is simple: Levi (Teller) and Drasa (Taylor-Joy) are two highly trained agents who are given the exact same mission. Separated by a vast and highly classified gorge, they’re stationed at opposite surveillance posts to protect the world from a mysterious evil that resides in the depths of the great chasm. As they grow closer despite the distance, they try to remain vigilant,...

If you live long enough you start asking yourself big, big questions, like… what is the meaning of life? Are we alone in the universe? And what would you do if you were a sniper guarding the gateway to Hell and you fell in love with another sniper who was really, super hot?
Scott Derrickson’s new Apple Original movie “The Gorge” answers only one of these questions, and unfortunately for philosophers everywhere, it’s the hot sniper question. But the rest of us will cheerfully make do. “The Gorge” is an unexpectedly romantic movie coming from the “Sinister” and “The Black Phone” director, but it’s also a gnarly monster flick with memorable beasties galore.
Miles Teller stars as Levi, a former Marine sniper who works freelance, and he’s super lonely. When a powerful figure played by Sigourney Weaver enlists Levi for a mysterious, year-long mission, he’s got nothing tying him down.

The Black Phone and Sinister director Scott Derrickson gets into the Valentine’s Day spirit with his latest, The Gorge, a romantic action thriller that also leans heavily into horror and sci-fi. Derrickson helms this genre mashup with lean efficiency, letting stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy do the heavy lifting as a pair of highly trained operatives turned lovers tasked with guarding the world against a strange threat. The leads’ inherent charm and screen presence and an inventive foray into thrilling action-horror territory sand some of The Gorge‘s rougher edges, making for a fun and romantic ride.
The Gorge introduces Levi (Teller) and Drasa (Taylor-Joy) as skilled snipers so efficient and isolated at their jobs that they’re enlisted in a top-secret mission that sees them whisked away to an undisclosed location deep in the middle of the wilderness, where they’re to guard opposite sides of a mysterious,...

The title of this movie is the two-word answer to a most unexpected question. Namely: “What do you get if you cross American Sniper, The Last Of Us, Stranger Things, Aliens and Love Actually?” Writer Zach Dean appears unashamed of his influences on this former Black List spec script, and director Scott Derrickson has much fun with them, serving up a frothy B-pic stew. By the time we reach the wink-at-the-audience montage that depicts Miles ‘Whiplash’ Teller and The Queen’s Gambit’s Anya Taylor-Joy bonding over drumming and chess, there is no doubt left that The Gorge can’t, and shouldn’t, be taken too seriously.
The set-up is a doozy. Teller and Taylor-Joy are sexy-but-damaged elite operatives whisked to a super-remote top-secret location by Sigourney Weaver, guest-starring as the token untrustworthy boss-person. Their year-long mission? To stand sentinel over an eerie chasm which may or may not be “the door to Hell”. Only,...

How far would you go for a worthy love story? It's the most pressing question at the forefront of "The Gorge" for its two main leads, rival snipers played with effortless chemistry by Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller. Separated by thousands of meters of canyon depths, the vast gulf between them only exacerbates their need for connection. Yet, intentional or not, this also doubles as an inadvertent commentary on the state of the genre these days. It's no secret that 2024 was a fairly dire year when it comes to rom-coms. But no matter how many decisionmakers in charge want to pretend otherwise, audiences clearly remain starved for something that delivers romance.
As much as filmmakers might want to make straightforward romances, however, they've had far better luck sneaking them into larger genre plays. Think of "Twisters" using the backdrop of CGI tornadoes to do an enemies-to-lovers ship (even if it...

Miles Teller certainly scored points in Top Gun: Maverick, but now with The Gorge he has really flown into the danger zone.
Valentine’s Day is certainly appropriate to release this hybrid of several genres including horror, sci-fi, action and romance, the latter due to a clever “meet cute” angle between two sharp-shooting assassins hired to guard East and West towers separated by 600 meters, below them an imposing, dense, foggy forest that holds a dark secret.
No doubt it is a lonely job when Bartholomew (Sigourney Weaver), the shady corporate operative who is one of the few who knows of the top kept secret of what the Gorge holds, recruits Levi (Teller), an ex-Marine and private contractor, a hit man talented with guns and weapons who Bartholomew decides is perfect for the yearlong assignment of making sure there is no escape from the mysterious gorge, a place of which even nine Russian heads and 13 U.

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July of 2023, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now, season 2 is speeding toward a summer 2025 premiere, and showrunner has promised that Twisted Metal season 2 is “even bigger than the first one.” You can get a preview of the new batch of episodes by checking out the newly unveiled teaser trailer, embedded above!
Based on an original take by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, this adaptation of the Twisted Metal franchise centers on a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

The world’s most dangerous secret lies within The Gorge, and Scott Derrickson isn’t about to spoil it.
The Sinister and The Black Phone director sat down with Bloody Disgusting to discuss his genre-bending new film, which offers something for everyone this Valentine’s Day with action-packed thrills, passionate romance, sci-fi intrigue, and horrific creatures.
The originality of the concept, scripted by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War), attracted Derrickson to The Gorge. “When Skydance sent me the script, I just got excited about the idea of a big event movie that’s not a sequel or a franchise or IP, but is an original story blending a lot of different genres.”

Originally set to premiere on August 15, 2025, the movie will now hit theaters worldwide on January 23, 2026. This move clears the way for Universal’s action sequel Nobody 2 to take over the earlier date without competition.
Pratt stars as a detective in the near future, where violent crimes have surged. The plot revolves around his character being accused of a serious crime, forcing him to fight to prove his innocence.
The cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Kali Reis, Annabelle Wallis, Kenneth Choi, Chris Sullivan, Kylie Rogers, Jeff Pierre, and Rafi Gavron, bringing together a mix of talents from franchises like Dune, Mission Impossible, and True Detective: Night Country.

Who better to rid the world of serial killers than other serial killers? That’s the question Laura Kosann (The Social Ones) must ask herself as she prepares to write the Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company’s film adaptation of Brynne Weaver’s bestselling novel Butcher & Blackbird. This project brings the first installment of Weaver’s Ruinous Love trilogy to screens, with Renfield and The Tomorrow War director Chris McKay getting behind the camera.
Brynne Weaver’s Butcher & Blackbird presents a unique spin on the serial killer genre, with a dark friends-to-lovers thread that helped the comedic read become a viral sensation on TikTok. Here’s a synopsis for Butcher & Blackbird: The Ruinous Love Trilogy courtesy of Amazon:
When a chance encounter sparks an unlikely bond between rival murderers Sloane and Rowan, they find something elusive—the friendship of two like-minded, pitch-black souls who just happen to enjoy killing other serial killers.

Chris Pratt may have started out as a comedic actor, but he's since branched out to an array of other genres. After starring in Parks & Recreation, Pratt became a household name with his starring role as Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, most recently playing the character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023. He's also had a number of significant roles outside the MCU, both in other major franchises and beyond.
Pratt played Owen Grady in three Jurassic World movies, departing that franchise with Jurassic World Dominion in 2022. He also recently starred in sci-fi action flick The Tomorrow War (2021), which has a sequel in development. Pratt has also taken on far more serious military roles, including in Prime Video's The Terminal List series, but his first major venture into this arena actually came in 2012 with the release of a political thriller based on real events.

While plot details for the film are under wraps, we’ve heard the short story described as Men in Black meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It follows a woman who wakes up in a field with no memory of how she got there and learns that she’s been missing since 1976, yet hasn’t aged a day. The Gorge, a new high-concept sci-fi horror romance (we're ticking quite a few boxes here) movie directed by Scott Derrickson, is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on February 14, and the first trailer has now been released online.
The film stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as two elite snipers who accept positions on either side of a mysterious gorge.
Teller's character (Levi) is told he's there to guard the gate to Hell (whether he means literally or metaphorically remains to be seen), and that he is to have no contact with the sniper in the opposite tower (Taylor-Joy's Drasa).
Of course, they eventually begin to communicate and strike up something of a medium-distance relationship, and when Levi falls while attempting to cross to the other side, Drasa straps on a parachute and follows him down.
"We really tried to be there for each other because we get along really well,...

With "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," Lucasfilm is moving George Lucas' universe into the realm of kid-centric adventure stories -- a genre marked by classics and modern hits like "The Goonies" and "Stranger Things." Even before the "Skeleton Crew" trailer was released, fans were already drawing comparisons between the official description and Amblin Entertainment features like "E.T." and "Super 8."
The show is now almost upon us, and those comparisons have certainly held true. Of course, you can't have a youthful, ragtag adventure without a proper band of young rascals and plenty of adults both benevolent and mischievous to get in their way. The multigenerational cast of "Skeleton Crew" is a big part of its appeal, with tons of young stars and Hollywood veterans alike making their "Star Wars" debuts. It's a lot of new faces, but don't worry, we've got you covered.

It’s almost hard to believe that the charming Chris Pratt, known for playing the lovable Andy Dwyer and now a blockbuster staple, once worked as a stripper. Surprising, right? The Jurassic World Dominion cast brought together the two ensembles of characters from the current trilogy as well as the original. Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a screenplay he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World Dominion marks the final film in the trilogy and the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. It wraps up a story that first began in Steven Spielbergs 1993 film and brings back plenty of familiar faces from the original for the Jurassic World 3 cast.
Set four years after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World Dominion explores a world that is shared by humans and dinosaurs alike. Dinosaur black markets have cropped up, poachers hunt the prehistoric creatures, and locusts are destroying harvests around the globe. Meanwhile, the villainous Jurassic Park rival Biosyn returns for more corporate wrongdoing. You won’t find Johnny Depp slowing down anytime soon: one French-language movie and one directorial feature down and he’s hungry to penetrate Hollywood even more.
He may have fallen from grace with the whole Amber Heard controversy, but he’s determined to build up his career back to the A-list status he once enjoyed. Kevin Spacey should definitely be taking notes.

Johnny Depp’s diary is busy, and whenever he’s not inventing a new language to voice a puffin in an animated series, he’s plotting his Hollywood comeback.
Once an actor in high demand by Hollywood, Depp’s roles in major movies dried up following his big Amber Heard controversy. Now that it’s all behind him – sort of – Depp’s been plotting a slow and steady comeback to Hollywood.

Amazon MGM Studios is doubling down on its original film business.
The studio arrives at MIPCOM Cannes with nearly all its eggs in Earth Abide‘s basket, an original series starring Alexander Ludwig (Vikings) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark). The show is a post-apocalyptic tale, based on George R. The executive sat down with The Hollywood Reporter in Cannes to discuss the studio’s slate of shows and films getting their distribution launch at MIPCOM including the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Accountant 2 and the sequel to A Simple Favor.

The Josh Brolin/Peter Dinklage starring Brothers is a great reminder to check out an underrated rom-com from 2020. Brothers is a riff on the Schwarzenegger/DeVito comedy Twins, with Brolin and Dinklage playing criminal twin brothers who reunite to pull off one last score. The cast of Brothers 2024 is what makes the movie click, with the leads sharing great chemistry, while Glenn Close plays their untrustworthy mother and Brendan Fraser is the maniacal police officer chasing after them.
Despite the great ensemble, Brothers has received mixed to negative reviews, and currently sits at 41% on Rotten Tomatoes. Regardless, the comedy appears to have performed well for streamer Amazon during its first week of release, and some viewers really enjoyed the chemistry between Dinklage, Brolin and Closel whether that will lead to a Brothers 2 is another question. The movie is also the first by director Max Barakow in four years, following...

Peacock's Teacup is a gripping character-driven horror series primarily held together by the performances of its talented cast members. Inspired by Robert R. McCammon's book Stringer, Teacup unfolds on a ranch in rural Georgia. In its eight-episode runtime, it walks through how its characters find themselves facing a mysterious threat that disrupts their seemingly idyllic lives. Although Teacup adopts a slow-burn approach in its early episodes, it reels viewers in by creating an immersive experience with its harrowing atmosphere and claustrophobic setting.
Through its character beats, Teacup also prompts viewers to become armchair detectives and solve its underlying mysteries with the main characters. Since Teacup's characters play a crucial role in gradually raising the intensity of its terrors and drama, the performances of its cast members are instrumental to its story's emotional impact. Owing to this, many viewers might wonder who plays whom in Teacup after watching the show.

While it has been a few years since the first film set records for Amazon Prime Video, there is still talk of The Tomorrow War 2 happening. Chris Pratt led the ensemble cast of the 2021 sci-fi actioner as Dan Forester, a former Green Beret in 2022 who is recruited by soldiers who have traveled back from the year 2051 to fight an invading alien force that has nearly wiped out humanity in the future. Elevation gets its first trailer, unveiling the new post-apocalyptic action film. Directed by George Nolfi, Elevation tells the story of a single father, played by Anthony Mackie, who embarks on a dangerous quest with two women, played by Morena Baccarin and Maddie Hasson, to save the life of a young boy. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting with a monster threat, and it marks Mackie's only major release before the arrival of Captain America: Brave New World next February.
IGN now releases the first trailer for Elevation, teasing what's to come from the intense action thriller. The deal that is expected to install Skydance chief David Ellison as chairman, CEO and hopefully savior of Paramount Global is a labyrinth of entities, trusts and transactions. Also potentially complicated, assuming the deal closes sometime next year, is the question of control.
Skydance sources say 41-year-old David will select the board and run things entirely independent of his father, Larry Ellison, also known as the world’s fifth-richest man, worth an estimated $176 billion, per Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index tally on Sept. 18. But Larry, 80, will own the controlling shares. Having previously bestowed billions on David and his sister, Megan, Larry has now backed his son to the tune of $6 billion as David pursued his dream of running a legacy studio.
What role, if any, Larry will play at the new Paramount is not clear. But given his track record of significant Maga activity, there is certain to be scrutiny — though...

It’s been many, many years in the making, but a movie adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s “Uglies” is finally here.
Directed by McG, the story centers on a society where, at 16 years old, every single person goes through a surgery to make them perfect. Perfect appearance, perfect personality features, you name it. Until they turn 16, they’re known as uglies and live in a compound away from the city.
The story centers on Tally Youngblood, a young girl who discovers that the operation may not be as perfect as it seems. But if you’re reading this article, you’re probably trying to place some of those perfect faces before tuning into the movie.
Well, we’ve got you! You can check out the cast list below.

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now season 2 is speeding ahead and is currently in production. A couple of months ago, it was announced that Richard de Klerk (A Teenage Prophet), Patty Guggenheim (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), and Tiana Okoye (Mrs. Davis) had joined the cast in unspecified recurring guest roles. Now Deadline reveals that Saylor Bell Curda of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series; Michael James Shaw, who was seen wearing the pumpkin-colored amor of the character Mercer in the final season of The Walking Dead; and Lisa Gilroy of Interior Chinatown have also joined the cast, playing unspecified recurring roles.
