Temple Hill is producing. Dana Fox, who made a name for herself penning romantic comedies such as The Wedding Date and 27 Dresses in the aughts, wrote the most recent draft of remake. Matt Johnson wrote the original draft.

The original movie centered on a troubled young man, played by Richard Gere, who enters the aviation officer candidate school. Chris Hemsworth clarifies previous comments about taking a break from acting due to health risks. He has consistently been working for over a decade with other projects on the horizon. The actor recently appeared in Spiderhead and Thor: Love and Thunder. This week, he will be starring in Extraction 2, reprising his role of Tyler Rake. Hemsworth is also slated to appear in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa as well as Transformers One, both of which are set for release in 2024.

Speaking with Et, Hemsworth claims that previous reports on his acting break were “blown out of proportion.” While Hemsworth admitted that he spent time reflecting on his health, the actor said that he is “healthier than [he’s] ever felt.” Hemsworth mentioned that he has “three kids that [he] want[s] to spend more time with.” Because of this, the actor will be more “curated” about the projects that he selects.

From the first Extraction film to fellow mercenary thrillers like Ronin and John Wick, there are plenty of great action thriller movies like Extraction 2 to watch before the Chris Hemsworth-starring sequel arrives on Netflix. Set to be released on June 16, Extraction 2 sees black ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) take on another daring rescue mission, this time springing the family of a notorious Georgian gangster out of prison. Not only is stuntman-turned-filmmaker Sam Hargrave back in the director’s chair but Joe Russo is back to write the sequel’s script, serving as a producer alongside his brother and Avengers: Endgame co-director Anthony Russo.

To make the wait for Extraction 2 go by a little faster, there are plenty of other great action movies to check out. There are other high-stakes actioners about skilled operatives embarking on a rescue mission, like the father-daughter story of Taken or the father-son story of Sleepless.

While director Joseph Kosinski’s 2022 movie Spiderhead was nowhere near as successful as his earlier hit Top Gun: Maverick, the Netflix satire did allow the helmer to parody his own blockbuster’s ending. Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski followed the movie with the Netflix sci-fi satire Spiderhead. On paper, this sounds like a surprising choice. Top Gun: Maverick was an unashamedly silly crowd-pleaser that recreated the tone and style of director Tony Scott’s original 1986 cult classic Top Gun. In contrast, Spiderhead was a darkly comedic sci-fi satire about a futuristic prison that offered a barbed critique of pharmaceutical ethics by adapting George Saunders’ acclaimed short story Escape From Spidehead.

However, Spiderhead’s underrated takedown of the carceral state may not be that far from Top Gun: Maverick’s plot. After all, Top Gun: Maverick’s Iceman cameo already implied that Top Gun 3 could revisit Scott’s original plot for the sequel.

Netflix announced Wednesday that the Oscar-winning film legend will star in and executive-produce his first television project, the conspiracy thriller limited series “Zero Day,” from creators Eric Newman (“Narcos”) and Noah Oppenheim (“Jackie”).

“‘Zero Day’ asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control?” goes the official logline for the series. “And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?”

Plot and character details were not revealed.

Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green is set to make her feature directorial debut with Sunflower, a thriller for Lionsgate set to star Jurnee Smollett.

Green will write and helm the film about two women struggling to escape from a deranged college professor who holds them hostage on a remote sunflower farm. Green and Craig Flores will produce the project unveiled by Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, which is eyeing a summer start for production.

Besides the HBO series Lovecraft Country, Green’s upcoming credits include writing and producing the feature film The Mother for Netflix. Recent credits for Smollett include Birds of Prey, the Joseph Kosinski sci-fi film Spiderhead, and Lou, which she executive produced on and starred in opposite Allison Janney.

Sunflower will be Green and Smollett’s next project, and the studio is eyeing a summer start for production.

Smollett and Green first worked together on the critically acclaimed WGN series Underground before reuniting for their ten-episode HBO limited series Lovecraft Country, which counted 18 Emmy nominations, including nods for Smollett’s performance, Green’s writing, and Outstanding Drama Series, while Smollett was nominated for Emmy, NAACP and SAG Awards for her performance.

Sometimes it pays to have a superhero in the house. On Friday, Dec. 9, Chris Hemsworth shared a video of his wife, model and actor Elsa Pataky, sitting on his shoulders in order to put the star on their enormous Christmas tree on Instagram. Since the Thor actor is over six feet tall, you might think Pataky could easily reach the top, but as the Marvel actor's video shows, putting the finishing touch on their tree was no easy task.

While it's unclear exactly how tall the couple's tree is, Pataky still couldn't reach the top while sitting on her husband's shoulders. Undeterred, Hemsworth gets creative as he first attempts to jump and then gets on his tiptoes to help his wife reach the top. "You can do it, Elsa!" he encourages her as they both struggle to make the tree cooperate.

However, as its final third begins to unwind, it quickly becomes something else altogether, more of a quasi-superhero outing. Actor Chris Hemsworth recently learned that he has two copies of a gene that’s known to increase the chance of a late-life Alzheimer’s diagnosis. He was filming the National Geographic series Limitless, which features several episodes of Hemsworth undertaking physical tests that will test the human body and learning from experts about new studies pertaining to combatting aging.

In the episode, a doctor explained to Hemsworth that he has “probably somewhere between eight and ten times higher” a chance to develop Alzheimer’s disease in his life. “The idea that I won’t be able to remember to live the life I’ve experienced or my wife, my kids, this is probably my biggest fear,” Hemsworth admitted on the show after hearing the news.

Throughout the episode, he also explored what some studies have said helps your chance of staving it off, including diet and exercise and “new intellectual challenges.
