The film was restored in 2014 through the Chaplin Essanay Project thanks to the financial support of the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum.
This is the earliest registered Chaplin-film to be shown in Sweden, on August 23, 1915. The event was advertised for in the British press at the time.
Restoration work was carried out at Lobster Films laboratory in 2014. Scanned at L'Immagine Ritrovata laboratory.
The Champion (1915) has been restored by Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and Lobster Films in collaboration with Film Preservation Associates, from a nitrate dupe negative preserved at the British Film Institute. Some fragments were added from an incomplete di-acetate fine grain from the Cinémathèque française, and an original nitrate print preserved at the Archives françaises du film (CNC).
Intertitles have been reconstructed from re-release titles of the 1920's found in both 35mm and Kodascope 16mm original elements.
