Japan’s highest grossing cinema release of 2025 to date isn’t a feature film. It is Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, a compilation of episodes from an upcoming TV series.

After five weeks in cinemas, -Beginning- has earned more than $16.5m (¥2.5bn) from 1.55 million admissions, according to the site Cinema Ranking Tsushin.

Distributed by Toho and Bandai Namco Filmworks, the 81-minute collection of re-edited episodes precedes a series that is set to air on Nippon Television in April. It is due for release in the US through Gkids on February 28, when several territories across Asia are also set to open the title in theatres.

Encore Films announced on Feb 13, 2025, that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- anime film will be released in Indian theaters on Feb 28, 2025.

The film is a re-edited version of the first four episodes from the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX series.

Instead, the awards were given to all the films released between August 1, 1927, and July 31, 1928.

The Academy continued with the "straddle" schedule for its first five years, considering a "release year" to be August 1 to July 31. Perhaps wanting to keep things a little cleaner, the Academy expanded the year of the 6th Academy Awards, which considered all the films released from August 1, 1932, all the way to December 31, 1933. The 7th Oscars was the first Oscars to finally measure by a proper calendar year. The Awards have been following that pattern ever since.

Tyra Banks is opening up about losing her home in the Los Angeles wildfires.

While appearing on the Australian morning show Sunrise on Monday, the model shared publicly for the first time that her house was one of those destroyed in the fires that ignited earlier in January in L.A.

“I lost my house,” Banks said. “I haven’t really talked about it, but, yeah, I have.”

Banks also explained why she hasn’t shared her loss publicly until now. “I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me,” she said. “I feel like there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not tell the truth that, yeah, we lost our house.”

She said she learned that she lost her home, which she shares with her partner, while they were in Australia.

Gundam info, the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise's official portal news site, announced today that a new TV anime series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (pronounced as "Geeku-akusu") is now in the works. The news was also during the "Gundam Conference Winter 2024" stream. The TV anime series is scheduled to air in Japan on the Nihon Television Network stations in the near future. Ahead of the TV premiere, a theatrical version using re-edited episodes, titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- , will screen in Japanese theaters on January 17, 2025. Now, the IP is gearing up for a new adventure with help from Neon Genesis Evangelion's team. Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX has been announced, and the reveal has fans geeking out.

After spending months talking about his long-nurtured dream project, Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola embraced the chance to depart from promo tour talking points.

Calling Megaloplis “a great adventure,” Coppola affirmed with a smile in accepting his DGA Honor on Thursday night, “I decided tonight I wouldn’t say anything I’ve been saying.”

After being given the award by his granddaughter, Gia, Coppola said he was delighted to spin yarns about “how the Director’s Guild was founded.” While he didn’t do so in linear fashion, the 85-year-old filmmaker had the audience in the palm of his hand as he recounted giants of cinema and his personal touchstones, paying tribute to masters like Billy Wilder, King Vidor and Samuel Goldwyn.

France’s Deauville American Film Festival has announced a retrospective gathering 50 U.S. features that have challenged perceptions of the world to mark its 50th anniversary.
