Plot

The oldest son of a San Francisco Policeman is accused of theft. The officer's wife, brother, and step-sister attempt to help repay the money. The family goes through various misfortunes and takes a nasty turn when officer O'Hare shoots his second oldest son Johnny during a bank robbery. Johnny must go on trial. A spectacular trial ensues followed by a happy ending.

Patrick O'Hara (Ralph Lewis) plays a respectable San Francisco police officer who stumbles upon a little girl (Josephine Adair) who has stolen some milk. He brings her home, discovers she is an orphan and adopts her. Mary grows up with O'Hara's two sons.

After the children grow up, Johnny (Johnnie Walker) falls in love with Mary (Ella Hall) while working at the same bank and they plan to get married. Then, Harry (Emory Johnson), Johnny's brother, who attends law school, is accused of stealing money while working various jobs to support his education. His mother (Claire McDowell) is devastated and resolved to help Harry. Mary also decided to help Harry, and her boss lends her the missing amount of money.

But, Johnny does not understand how Mary came into a large sum of money. He starts an investigation on his own. He thinks maybe his beloved Mary may have stolen the money. He begins to check various sections of the bank. While Johhy continues reviewing parts of the bank out back, the bank is suddenly being robbed. During the robbery, a policeman is killed. Officer O'Hare happens to respond to the alarm and while checking the back of the bank, accidentally shots his son Johnny. Johnny is accused of robbery and murder, and he must go to trial.

At the trial, an overwhelming amount of evidence is presented to convict Johnny. At the last moment, Johhny's brother - Harry appears as a new-minted layer for the defense. After a passionate plea to the jury, the real robber confesses, clearing Johnny's name. Harry's charges are dropped too.
