Ricardo Cortez and Kay Francis in The House on 56th Street (1933)

Trivia

The House on 56th Street

Edit
Francis turned the deck of cards sideways so she could check for shaved cards. Shaved cards allows the dealer to be able to feel the odd sized cards so they can tell the suit of the card.
According to studio records Adolphe Menjou was to play the male lead, which was to be his first picture with Warner Bros. He was instead assigned Convention City (1933), and Ricardo Cortez was borrowed from Paramount for the role of Bill.
The second of 4 films which co-starred Kay Francis and Ricardo Cortez, the others being Transgression (1931), Mandalay (1934) and Wonder Bar (1934).
Kay Francis was only 5 years older than Margaret Lindsay, who portrays her daughter.
This film was a success at the box office, bringing in more than triple its cost to produce (but not accounting for advertising and distribution costs).
