Filmed in late 1932, and released in January 1933, when Fox was on the verge of bankruptcy, this film appeared about a year and a half before the enforcement of the Production Code, and was widely considered to be one of the primary reasons for its instigation, because of its outrageous dialogue and suggestive situations.
