Paramount was really pushing Bing Crosby as a star when they made this movie. It's a backstage musical in which Broadway star Bing finds himself stranded briefly, sees Judith Allen in a vaudeville act, and takes her, her fiance Jack Oakie, and stage partner Skeets Gallagher back to star in Harry Green's new show. Crosby and Miss Allen fall in love, but are too noble to do anything about it, leaving it up to Oakie to be noble himself by seducing Bing's fiancee, lilyan Tashman, so the two kids can be together.
It's got some decent musical numbers, although director Eddie Sutherland doesn't let DP Theodore Sparkhul shoot anything in a visually interest manner until the next-to-last number. Some good performers, including Ned Sparks, grace Bradley, and even Oakie's mother fill out a cast, with some fine zingers offered by co-writer Joseph Mankiewicz. It's mostly of interest because it is an early Crosby vehicle, but pleasant enough for all that.
