or, Savant picks The Most Impressive Discs of 2015
This is the actual view from Savant Central, looking due North.
What a year! I was able to take one very nice trip back East too see Washington D.C. for the first time, or at least as much as two days' walking in the hot sun and then cool rain would allow. Back home in Los Angeles, we've had a year of extreme drought -- my lawn is looking patriotically ratty -- and we're expecting something called El Niño, that's supposed to be just shy of Old-Testament build-me-an-ark intensity. We withstood heat waves like those in Day the Earth Caught Fire, and now we'll get the storms part. This has been a wild year for DVD Savant, which is still a little unsettled. DVDtalk has been very patient and generous, and so have Stuart Galbraith & Joe Dante; so far everything...

He's back and he's funnier than ever. The mischievous, cagey entertainer William Claude Dukenfield starred in some of the best comedies ever. Roland Emmerich explains Stonewall, Helicopter Mom is the ultimate in confused sexuality, the 18 second fart that nearly ruined The Princess Bride
It’s hard to imagine So You Think You Can Dance without Travis Wall, but after he performed on the show, they kept turning him down as a choreographer. “When Season 3 came on I asked, when Season 4 came on I asked, and they were like, ‘Yeah, I don’t think you’re ready yet. I got the opportunity in Season 5 and I proved myself. Even after, in the seasons after that, every time I was asked I felt like I had to prove myself.”
In case you’re bored at work, here’s a huge selection of live animal cams for you to watch, from Great Dane puppies to panda cubs. Sorry about your productivity.

Raphael Sbarge has played a lot of disturbed individuals in his 40 years as an actor, even as recently as this week’s episode of Criminal Minds. He is therefore particularly delighted to have been cast as good conscience personified, Jiminy Cricket on ABC‘s Once Upon a Time. He recently took the time to speak with SciFiMafia.com about the role.
I asked him how he first got involved in the show.
The old fashioned way, I went in there and met them. We read through some stuff, and they said thank you, and I walked out and they chased me down the street and had me come back, and did it again, and then literally a few hours later got a phone call and it looks like it’s gonna come my way. It was one of those things where I guess they told me afterwards that they had...

About ten minutes into the comedy Gayby - in which a gay man and his best ladyfriend decide to procreate in the most dinner-party-convo-demolishing way possible (aka "The Old Fashioned Way") - I laughed out loud. Sure, some gay romcoms are cute, or naughty, or sweet - but laugh-out-loud funny? Pretty rare. So imagine my delight when I found my guard shattered to thousands of glittery bits by the well-placed use of the word "whimsical".
Written and directed by relative newcomer Jonathan Lisecki, Gayby tells the story of two New York City friends who want to be parents, and decide that it's time to use their natural biological complements to do so. Matt (Matthew Wilkas, aka "The Adorable Bastard Lovechild of Dexter and Stifler") works in a comic book store and is still sorting through the rubble of a failed long-term relationship. Jenn (future Gay Icon nominee Jenn Harris) is...

It's October 20, which can only mean one thing: It's time to celebrate the birthday of one Calvin Broadus, known best to the rest of the world as Snoop Dogg. The veteran rapper/actor/entrepreneur turns 39 years old today, and it's staggering to think about everything that Dogg has done over the course of his career. It's an incredible body of work that includes some truly killer records (including modern classics like "Gin and Juice," "Murder Was the Case," "Drop It Like It's Hot," "Sexual Seduction" and the recent "I Wanna Rock"), memorable film roles (notably appearances in "Training Day," "Bones," "The Wash" and "Starsky and Hutch") and countless business successes (there are Snoop Dogg-branded skateboards, video games, porn films, action figures, hot dogs and pet products). He also provides a voice for Tom Tom Gps products, which is amazing.
But Snoop's side projects are often overlooked, which is a shame,...

Legend of the Seeker (TV) is in trouble. The action/fantasy series roughly based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind has seen two seasons, but may strike out at three. The show is produced by ABC Studios in first-run syndication and was dealt a critical blow when Tribune Station Group dropped it from numerous markets, significantly impacting its viewership area and ratings. During its two-season run, the show developed a strong and fervent fan base, and they aren't taking the news lying down. They're far from ready to say goodbye to the show they've come to love, or to the many elements of LotS that captured their loyalty. Engaging characters, romantic settings, the ever classic battle between good and evil, and a handsome underdog who at any moment could fall under the spell of a ravenous beauty. It's the stuff dreams are made of. The show stars Craig Horner as Richard Rahl,...
