Stan Laurel's actual brother Edward Jefferson (Teddy) died in a dentist's chair during the filming of 'Oliver the Eighth'. He went in to have some teeth extracted and died of heart failure after receiving the anesthetic. He was 33.
The reason Stan says he will have to hide his "solid gold" brick is that ownership of most gold over five ounces was prohibited by Executive Order 6102, signed by President Franklin Roosevelt the previous year. That order was not repealed until 1974.
When Mrs Fox/ Mae Busch receives Ollie's letter, a close-up (insert) shows that the return address is "Oliver Hardy / 201 Spring Street / Los Angeles, Calif." and the letter is addressed to "Box 204J. / Los Angeles / Los Angeles". The postmark, which appears to be an authentic Post Office cancellation, says "Culver City, Calif." and bears the date of "Jan 8, 10:30AM, 1934". The Hal Roach Studios were in Culver City, and this short was released on 13 January 1934.
The last of Laurel and Hardy's three-reel shorts.
