The trouble with most films featuring boxers is that they cannot act their way out of a paper bag.You only have to think of Billy Walker,Freddie Mills,Max Baer.Len Harvey proves no exception to this rule.He was the Light Heavyweight champion in the 1930s but is unable to make much of a fist of this starring role.He is though ably supported by those old pros Wally Patch and Ronnie Shiner.Interstingly enough his manager is played by Archie Pitt who was Gracie Fields first husband and who was very influential in guiding her career. This film it has to be said leaves no cliché unturned and it really is like treading a very well worn path. The boxer who probably appeared in more films than anyone else makes a brief cameo appearance. It is of course Bombadier Billy Wells who banged the gong for GFD and Rank for many years.
