I saw this movie in the late 1940s, and I found it to be both interesting and challenging at the same time. Around the world, the art of film-making was going in many different directions, and in Denmark the director tried to pull the genre towards a very danish theatre-ish mood, and this movie, and with the excellent acting of Oswald Helmuth, is a remarkable and remake-able accomplishment in cinema. Excellent lighting, beautiful camera-work and the beauty of the backdrop of pre-ww2 Denmark, with its forests and hills and clear blue sky. With a budget that was unseen for European movies, the many different locations and expensive props, this film was one of the worlds first "blockbusters", earning the production company over three hundred thousand danish krones(appr. 50.000 us dollars), making the director as famous as a danish director have ever been. Its simply one of those cinema historically significant movies, you have to have seen.
