Popeye grows his own spinach in this short, one of a few times he's show doing so.
This is one of the few times Bluto is shown as having his own female admirer. However, the identity of the lady is never given.
One of only three Fleischer shorts where Bluto eats spinach. The others are Axe Me Another (1934) and Hospitaliky (1937).
Popeye's team, the Pirates, is also the name of Pittsburgh's Major League Baseball team. Pittsburgh's team originally was the Alleghenys, but officially changed their name to the Pirates in 1891.
Popeye uses the term "that ain't cricket", an old British term meaning something is unfair or dishonest.
