Four years after this film, Eddie Albert would join the US Navy. He would achieve the rank of lieutenant in the Naval reserves. At Tarawa, he would go on to save nearly 50 Marines and help with the rescue of 30 others, all while under fire. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions.
After this picture was completed, Ronald Reagan was made an honorary "Brother Rat" at Virginia Military Institute.
The play opened on Broadway in New York on 12/16/1936 and closed in May 1938 after 577 performances. Eddie Albert originated his movie role as Bing Edwards in the play. The opening night cast also included Frank Albertson as Billy Randolph, Wyn Cahoon as Joyce Winfree, José Ferrer as Dan Crawford and Ezra Stone as Misto Bottome.
