Denver Dixon, foreman of the John Dunlap Bar-D Ranch, fights with ranch cowhand "Mile-Away" Hardy. (The name is a nickname and is "Mile-Away", and it's root is primarily western USA in which some usually guilty party always claims to have been "a mile away" from whatever or wherever he is trying to establish an alibi for, and the locals or law authorities begin to refer to him as "Mile-Away." It is possible that "Mile Ahead" may have been used somewhere, possibly as a nickname for a marathon runner or something, but not in this film as a name for Osborne's character.) But we digress. Denver severely chastises and whips up on "Mile-Away" for being reckless while driving Miss Lucy Graves, the new schoolmarm. For revenge, ol' "Mile Away" quits, rustles the ranch cattle, sets fire to a few things and kidnaps Miss Lucy. At some point "Mile-Away" may have been a mile of two ahead of hero Denver, but Denver rides to the rescue and catches up.
